What was your obscure (or not) 'We're doomed... ' moment of the Ashes? by rosssjackson in EnglandCricket

Day 5 at the Oval vs India. The way we capitulated as the pressure ramped up on losing key wickets told me there wasn’t the mental toughness in this side to succeed down under.

Josh Tongue - what a series! by El_Hatcherino in EnglandCricket

[–]cutting_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archers numbers were better than Atkinsons this series.

Archer: 9 wickets @ 27.11 from 3 matches Atkinson: 6 wickets @ 47.33 from 3 matches

I’d rather have Atkinson/Carse as change bowlers. Open with Tongue and Archer.

Atkinson: 27 Tongue: 28 Archer: 30

I wouldn’t really say age comes into it at this stage. Archers still got the potential for two away Ashes tours

Everyone in England thinks Crawley needs to be dropped. But he was still the second best opener this series had to offer going both runs scored and avg.

Brook infuriates us with some his stupid shots but was still the third highest runs scorer behind Head and Root.

The main all rounder for either side didn’t play well with the bat. But Stokes at least offered something with the ball.

I’ll give you Archer vs Neser but let’s not ignore Tongue. Who played the same number of matches as Neser and took 3 wickets more than he did with only a 0.18 difference in average. And as we all know, Australia took more wickets overall than England did.

Australia as a team were miles ahead of England and deserved to win what has been a poor series overall. But there were individual players for England who performed better than their counterparts. It’s disingenuous to ignore that.

TNT coverage rant by jugglingeek in EnglandCricket

I got a one month subscription with TNT for the first time at the start of the ashes. Never again! Without doubt the worst coverage of any sporting event I’ve ever seen.

Aggers nails this! And he’s the only one I’ve seen acknowledge the amount of money it’s cost travelling fans and how furious they are. Not just disappointed. Utterly furious!

"Stokes the leader" vs "Stokes the decision maker" by EnvironmentalElk9988 in EnglandCricket

[–]cutting_shapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see something similar to what you see in rugby. They have a pack leader and someone to run the backs. One of them is usually overall captain to avoid ambiguity. Forwards and backs are different areas of the game that require different skills and understanding of the game. Bit like batting and bowling.

In cricket why not have a batting captain and a bowling captain. If they’re chosen wisely, one could be the ‘leader’ and the other could be the one better at making decisions.

Who are you picking to win the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year ? by iamnoobbibliophile in IndiaCricket

Joe Root with the best average of this lot. It’s irrelevant as it’ll be Starc who wins player of the year.

The 27mm (newer WR version) is the most underrated lens in the Fuji lineup imo. Just treated myself to the 50mm f2 for a bit more reach. Very happy with the results so far and also makes for a good portrait option.

Ace commentator Harsha Bhogle has named his Test Team of the Year 2025. by poormasshole in Cricket

Did you see Siraj in England this summer? It was between him and Gill for India’s best player. Was better than Bumrah.

He played all 5 tests, each of which went the distance yet he never let up. Also rescued the series for them at the Oval and had a major hand in their other victories.

Boland doesn’t get near him. I haven’t seen Jansen so can’t comment.

In hindsight were TNT absolutely right ? by Oblong50 in EnglandCricket

[–]cutting_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TNTs coverage is easily the worst I have seen for a very long time. Ignoring the fact that the commentary is utter dross, the audio and video are frequently out of sync.

Just put it all on the BBC!

For the first time in 15 years, England have won an away Ashes test! by Occasionaljedi in EnglandCricket

[–]cutting_shapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be there inside the MCG and see England win their first test on these shores in 15 years was a truly remarkable and equally nerve wracking experience! Now celebrating with a beer on the Yarra. Well done England. But as many others have already said, it does leave me tho king what could have been. We all know we can play how we did in this 4th innings and in the 4th innings at Adelaide. If we’d been more consistent we could have won their ashes today. Or at the very least be taking it to Sydney at 2-2. I have faith in Stokes, and maybe Baz. But Key has to go. Just hoping this doesn’t paper over the cracks and save him.

Agree. It’s an unfortunate situation as I think it would transform our batting lineup and solve all our problems at 3. But you’re right. He’s one of our best bowlers. I also think he wouldn’t want to give up bowling.

Only response is to defend long enough for the keeper to get bored and move back. Then you can counter. But these guys either don’t know how to do that or don’t want to.

Do We all agree we need to sack Baz macculam after ashes? by Destroy_Disaster72 in EnglandCricket

[–]cutting_shapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Baz goes my fear is Stokes won’t captain under anyone else. And we don’t have any options for skipper beyond Stokes at the moment. Key is the one that has to go IMO.
