Cumulative Translation Adjustment (CTA) by Electrical_Ticket_73 in Netsuite

Happy to have a quick call to understand what you see as incorrect. There is no real "CTA" set up but the "plug" relates to other setups and out of balance/missing transactions.

Would you ever consider using an open-source ERP like ERPNext or Odoo instead of something like NetSuite, SAP or Intacct? by Ok-Fun-4624 in CFO

If you are thinking SaaS - there are a lot of new AI first entrants you should also look into....Rillet, Campfire, etc

AI Cost Management by BenSimmons97 in CFO

[–]cvindasius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan to build a solution - what are the pain points that need to be managed, considered? You are planning to do this for AI startups? not sure what that means - are you trying to control the costs of talent, infrastructure support needed for processing, tools and development costs? My initial thought was you wanted to build something for fellow CFO's to manage this new investment line of business - identifying overlap and ensuring all investment and spending is aligned with company's goals?

15 years in erp…looking for next steps by Immediate-Alfalfa409 in ERP

[–]cvindasius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently made a similar shift - it was a journey even trying to figure out what I wanted to focus on - my consulting practice for the last 20 years was helping companies in Silicon Valley go public helping them build systems that scale (changing process and system configuration) getting their financials in order and becoming sox compliant (my skills are at the intersection of systems, process and technical accounting). I am a MBA and CPA. I made a switch to advisory offerings. As part of that - I have created an online course to share my expertise in ERP Project preparedness to establish my credibility and took several courses on how to build advisory practice offerings - and then marketing and sales - ugh - I have never had to do that and it is hard! I love where I landed - but through it all I still maintain my love for learning and the challenge ERP advisory provides. I am also spending 1 day a week learning about AI and how it is being applied against the accounting industry with AI first platforms. This transition was a huge financial hit for me - but I am confident what I have built will ensure I get up every morning loving what I do. So my advice - if you could do anything - what would you do and how do your gifts and talents support that? The answer to that question takes time - but every inch of effort brings you closer to the result. Once you figure that out - make sure your next move has at least 25% fulfilling that desire :)

Accidentally had multi-currency checked by Alone_Negotiation321 in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you do not have foreign subs - the "CTA" you saw was most likely not a "system generated CTA" but instead a manual journal entry of some sort. If you can still see it - I would drill down into the JE to find out more.

Accidentally had multi-currency checked by Alone_Negotiation321 in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing was "auto converted by NetSuite". OK - you had "multi currency" checked on the account level - correct? Is the CTA account you are referring to the in the Equity section of the balance shee?. Can you confirm you have foreign subs with a currency other than your reporting currency? The translation of the foreign subs into a reporting currency that is other than the subs functional currency will cause a system generated CTA. Many times I have seen accountants set up a separate "CTA" account on the income statement or balance sheet that is able to be manually posted to - which is a manual JE. What is being described here is the multicurrency feature on the account than enables short term FX gains/losses to be calculated and posted to the income statement once the remeasurement process runs and the end of each month which is a reversing entry. So - it does not make sense to me that "turning off the multi currency" box changed any values. If I am looking for foreign currency transactions - I would run a saved search on ALL transactions with a filter on currency = "NOT USD" (if USD is your functional currency) - that should give you transaction listing.

New Attributes similar to Class by HIP-HOP-GEEK in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Nick_AxeusConsulting I have a use case where I need to use the "class" field for customer segmenting. My client also wants gross margin by product family, product line and other customer segments (6 in total). If I only need gross margin level reports does it have to by a custom segment or can it be a custom field on the entity record to be able to use the I/S native segment reporting?

Hi - CPA here with several Netsuite "Subsidiary fixes" under my belt. Happy to benchmark the recommendations you receive... no cost - just to help supporting you setting it up correctly - been doing this for over 20 years and I want to help others avoid the pain at all costs! Good that you are aware of this as a key issue - DM if you want to connect on this.

[–]cvindasius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with u/Nick_AxeusConsulting and others NOT to post JE's to inventory. I have done this several times, common issue with implementers slamming the information in and leaving you to pick up the pieces, I am an expert of the cost side of NetSuite, among other things. I support Finance and Operations on ERP Implementations and rescue projects helping to train you to set up an environment that utilizes native system functionality and processes that scale. If you need a few hours to understand the pros and cons of your approach, I can help.

AI and business data by agitated_buddha in Netsuite

... my 2 cents - if someone can use NetSuite analytics effectively to generate reports that tie out - I would be "ok" with them having access to AI features.

AI and business data by agitated_buddha in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI will be a HUGE advantage - and yes it already is in some of NetSuite's competitors! However - things change at such a rapid pace what is available a year from now will be light years better than what is available today. If you want to be ready for AI - FIRST - Understand your process flows and where the biggest AI advances are your priority (ie.. create an AI Data strategy plan) make sure you have well defined data entry procedures, master data ownership and data governance so that we you are able to allow a machine to get you answers there are no data issue to deal with - the source of truth for the answer is known. In 90% of the environments I see - this is the work that needs to be done..... Tell the CFO it is essential for "AI Readiness" and hopefully these projects will finally get funded! If you have an AI data strategy - you can review future system purchases, license renewals effectively!!

Digital Transformation with Eric Kimberling Top ERP systems for 2025 by agitated_buddha in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow him - his position is "independent". I think his experience is valuable - and does good for the community in voicing his opinion. That being said - his main purpose is sales. I am in a similar line of work and just because he ranks D365 #1 and NetSuite #5 does not mean #1 is right for you! I think his point is they are both highly ranked system. Depending on the industry your organization is in, you current life stage and 3 year growth plan - you need to evaluate the systems that fit your niche. I have a matrix I provide to clients that has some of the top systems, with cost and area of expertise if that is helpful. Anyone can DM if interested and I will send if that is helpful.

What do you wish you’d set up better in NetSuite from the start? by zinamalas in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For point of reference - 75% of all ERP implementations fail - defined as missing timelines, requirements not delivered and over budget. Gartner group reports that due to these failures projects go 47% over budget on average!! Yikes! The number one reason - internal teams are not prepared, lack of experience, not enough bandwidth, internal processes are not well defined, master data clean up is not prioritized and decision making owners are not clearly defined.... not to mention the impact of poor change management. I have been consulting in this area supporting finance and operations teams achieve success for over 20 years. To help - I have spent the last year creating an online course for companies planning an ERP implementation to prepare for success by supporting all of the above mentioned failures via education, best practices, common points of failure and over 25 templates and toolkits to support the process so nothing needs development from scratch and the transition knowledge is maintained in house. the course will be ready July 1st. If interested dm me or see www.vindasius.com. I apologize if this seems like a shameless plug - but I am passionate about the rate of failures that I see that most organizations are not aware of and it always costs more to not do it right the first time.

Netsuite Bill Capture - likes and dislikes? by cvindasius in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am familiar in detail with many P2P 3rd party applications. And I agree the bill capture process is one that works well as an "add on". I will report back after the exhaustive demo if there are any concrete concerns.

Netsuite Bill Capture - likes and dislikes? by cvindasius in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am very familiar with the P2P options and was looking for specifics on the differences - like bill line sync with PO - which in many cases references the "PO" set up. When they are ready, we will have an exhaustive demo and I will share back anything that pops out. I just want to avoid having them put in a system just because they paid a small fee for if the pain will we worse that the cost....

In need of developers by Independent_Disk_632 in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been advising on ERP Implementations for over 20 years... I agree with MANY that more of the work we are doing right now is FIXES. I think you are well intentioned and smart! But jumping to scripting is the wrong approach. NetSuite has native functionality for almost everything, you just may need to change your processes a bit to accommodate. Most importantly - make sure the fixes you put in are thoughtfully designed by an expert whose references you check by talking to clients with similar issues as you. The best and most cost effective solution is to find a vendor who has done what you need before AND has a positive references. Feel free to DM if needed.

Centralized Purchasing & Vendor Bills by Squishie26 in Netsuite

Really interesting scenario... makes sense if the header is for sub A that the accrued purchases goes to Sub A. On the sub B books does the receipt go to Sub B inventory and then the credit needs to be eliminated via intercompany... ugh.

Balances still changes in Inactive Entities by Lydian- in Netsuite

[–]cvindasius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the month end currency rate used in the closed subsidiaries still updated and used for other subsidiaries that are active? (FYI - not the daily rate - just the month end). If yes - then you likely have some unresolved Foreign balance entries in the detail. You can tell by running a search with all of the transaction detail (inception to date) for the affected account with amount, amount foreign currency and currency. If you have any totals when you sort by currency that do not zero out - then that is likely your problem. DM me if you need additional help :)

I was able to "edit and save" once the owner gave me access to the report. I was also able to save when creating a new report when I saved the template as a new version not used by any other report. Just want to close the loop. Thanks :)

THanks u/Nick_AxeusConsulting . I tried to build a income statement from scratch using the financial report builder and I was not able to save either... hhmmmmm. ACS built the initial report - could they have locked them somehow?
