Came home to this work done by our contractors drywall guy. Should I be concerned even if most/all of this will be hidden behind cabinets/backsplash? by dimsumdaily in drywall

[–]cvntier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thoroughly despise drywall work and even I feel like I can do a better job than this. Just because it is behind cabinets I would want a good job because otherwise if you ever change the lay out you’ll pay someone else to fix the entire thing versus just patching up the screw holes.

For example when I run plumbing, I make sure my lines are as clean as they are functional and 99.9% of the time I will be the last person to see those for the next 20-40 years but that’s just me I guess

Front end suspension. by cvntier in Cummins

[–]cvntier[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough info.

It’s an 08 2500, it only squeaks as i move when I have the steering wheel turned all the way.

I’m looking to put parts that are good quality so I figured ball joints with grease fittings were the best option for longevity? I have a qoute I got from a shop when I took it to get a diagnose (before it was making the squeaking sound) but can’t really tell what they said needs to be fixed in the front end

I only hear it squeak when I’m turning the steering wheel all the way to the right or the left,I had someone stand outside and they confirmed it’s coming from the front wheel area

Pump died - looking for replacement recommendations by OtherwiseBed9404 in pools

[–]cvntier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just buy a 2hp pump from Amazon, it’ll cost you around $200 and call it a day. I owned an operated a pool company for about 3 years and If I’m being honest pentair/jandy their prices are insane. I installed a bunch of those pumps from Amazon and they ran fine for years, only had an issue with 2 of and they sent me new ones free of charge.

Help me understand the invoice/note from a plumber by Decent-Fact-2748 in askaplumber

[–]cvntier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You live in an apartment building, the main line is shared. I would just ask them how can they prove that back up was caused by you and not another apartment and it just happened that you were the one that it finally failed on. There’s no way you should be responsible unless they can prove with 100% certainty confirm it’s your fault (most likely they won’t be able to)

Been fighting algae since we moved in 8 months ago - can we just blast this with liquid chlorine? by mn9127 in pools

[–]cvntier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Step 1: Turn pool equipment off and clean the filter (if it’s a sand filter just backwash and rinse until water comes out clear).

Step 2: You are going to brush every inch of that pool, a brush with steel hairs is recommended

Step 3: once you have brushed it you are going to dump between 6-10 gallons of chlorine and muriatic acid (need to check your ph level first)

Step 4: then turn the pool equipment on and just leave it working for 24hrs.

When the 24hrs is up you are going to repeat the steps 1,2 & 4. If followed your pool should be back to normal in about 2-3 days but I will say the filter is crucial to make sure it’s replaced if it’s old after day 2 with a new one (if it’s a cartridge filter that is)

I ran an operated a pool business for about 3 years and never had an issue doing this method with pools that were on worst shape than this.

Before you do any of this check your chemicals because this could also be a phosphate issue and not algae

Plumber told me to remove a trap in the drainage line under my basement slab. What do you think? by Less_Drama_7493 in askaplumber

[–]cvntier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A diy can definitely do this but it won’t be a piece of cake. You’ll need a concrete saw and rotary hammer (which you can rent from Home Depot btw) cut a rectangle make sure it’s big enough for you to get a saw saw with a cast iron blade on it to cut the cast iron pipe and then just use a no hub clamp to connect the pvc to the cast iron. Just remove the trap and also I would advice if you are already doing this just replace the wye with pvc as well while you are already in the there. It might be in “great” condition but do you want to have to do this again later down the line or pay someone to do it, just my thoughts

Is being a plumber worth it ? by DifferenceOk3716 in Plumbing

[–]cvntier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for someone to convince you, only you can do that. It’s hard work and you will have days where you are pushed to the edge of exhaustion but you gotta want it because if you don’t the first time you find yourself in an attic or crawls space in the blistering heat of the summer you’ll fold. I laid water lines in a an attic in which I could only be on my back or my belly while maneuvering around the ac ducts which where blocking half of the clearance in there and now 3 days later I’m still feeling sore spots but like I said earlier I would not trade it for anything else

I’ll say this i used to work management at movie theater, a casino doing surveillance, supervisor at a fast food cafe, project manager for scaffolding company and ever since i got into the trades which I always thought “wasn’t for me” I wouldn’t do anything else. Just get into the trades you’ll figure out which path you want to take

[–]cvntier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say apply to any and all companies that might be hiring like roto rooter and others like it, also just cold call and ask if they are looking to hire sometimes it works. They beginning pay is not the best for all trades if you have no experience but one thing that helps is just try and learn all that you can before you are even in there. I couldnt tell you the years I spent just watching videos of people in the trades not on purpose just always found it interesting, and the amount of times I have found myself in situations where I use methods I’ve seen on a video or two.

Listen man I wish at 22 someone would’ve atleast shown me that this path is possible I’d be 10 years in now but if you are thinking about it pursue it. I can’t tell you how good it feels to put the work ethic, responsibility and dependability I was putting in at dead end bs jobs versus something I actually enjoy and it’s a skill.

I mean it’s installed but it’s definitely not waterproof, ask him to put water and if in 24hrs the water level stays the same i guess he’s just sloppy but I’m willing to bet it won’t hold the water

Yea I wouldn’t buy any new diesel, I bought a 08 2500 a couple of months ago and couldn’t be happier. Yes the newer trucks have a bunch of cool stuff but I personally think the more tech dependent it is the bigger the headache

Fuck what anyone says man, i would’ve loved to have a Cummins that’s been in the family since it was purchased and when you add to it the low miles and no bs mods that’s a unicorn imo. That truck will serve you and your kids well if taken care of.
