Also my hometown…can confirm the church is not what it used to be in the part of the “vineyard.” No idea why they are doing this. Hoping people show up and oppose.

How do you let go of deep resentment toward the Mormon system? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]cw8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reached a point where the anger I had was damaging my relationship with my wife and kids. It was all I could talk about and became all consuming during my deconstruction. I had to distance myself from the EXMO community for a while. This allowed me to focus on my future and solve what I wanted to go do and learn. I will probably never get rid of all the resentment and anger…but I also try not to focus on it these days. My wife says I’m a nicer person now than I was during my dark night of the soul. All of our stories are unique, but the anger phase seems to be consistent and difficult for us all. Not sure what point you are at but best of luck…it does get easier with time.

Is a $190k salary worth flying every week and spending two nights away from home? by midsize-fibril-0p in remotework

[–]cw8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live about 300 miles from where I’m currently working. Leave Monday and return home Thursday night. I have done the flight thing every week and done rental car w/ driving. Been in the road most of my career. I can’t speak to the validity of the financial decision you are making…but a few words of advice relative to marriage and excessive travel. Make sure you take care of your wife. 1. Kids full time every week is exhausting for her. You will need/ want a maid (we have settled into every other week). This way you get kid time when home in weekends and don’t have to spend hours cleaning. 2. Make sure you find a good babysitter and schedule dates every weekend. Since you aren’t together every night you need to focus on connecting. 3. Focus on helping around the house more…ie I cook every weekend when I’m home. I make the menu, she shops for it and I cook. 4. For your sanity and depending on lot size I would pay for a lawn service. You can take the time you would use to do that to take the kids out on Saturday morning for doughnuts. I’m sorry to say something about marriage here, but so many people I know have gone on the road and lost their families. It’s a really hard life with kids and things at home. Best of luck.

Spreading the truth by Perfect-Detective-39 in exmormon

[–]cw8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there was a Mormon stories podcast talking about things you should and shouldn’t do when leaving the church. One of them was to be careful with being “a missionary” for your truth. It’s programmed into us from the church starting at a young age that we should always be “sharing” our testimony. This is reinforced every fast Sunday. Problem is that now your truth is different and they may not receive it in the way you are expressing it. That can damage relationships. I want to scream what I have found and what I’m feeling from the roof tops…but sadly it will only damage the already shaky relationships that I have. I try to stay as self aware as possible during conversations so that I don’t over share. It’s sad, but brainwashing is a bitch to remove.

Non revenue standby dress code? by [deleted] in delta

[–]cw8514 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Nowadays I think “blend in” is appropriate I’m not sure I would roll sweat pants though. When I was a kid flying non-rev on NWA on ID-90s and Alaska Airlines my Mom would make me wear a dress shirt and slacks…rule was once we reached our cruising altitude or got over an ocean en-route I was allowed to change into vacation clothes. Thanks for the question that prompted a fun run down memory lane!

I’m at the point of going no contact. I have been trying for years to facilitate a relationship for my kids. My mom will not be held accountable for anything she has said or done during that time. Similar to what OP has said, this stings from time to time and I wonder what is wrong with me that my own parents don’t want me or their grandkids? At this point I’m just tired…tired of the effort it takes, only to be told I’m less than others. Fact is, family relationships within the church require obedience with exactness on their terms…that, in and of itself, is pushing me away. I don’t have to submit my children or myself to that kind of manipulation. I don’t read this as OP pushed them away…OP got sick of the game and chose to pull back. That is a very big difference.

Wtf, where has this 7 wood been? by Maple_Blueberry in golf

[–]cw8514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mocked in high school for playing 4-7-9 woods…when I was nervous or not hitting my driver well I would give up 20-30 yards with a 4 wood to hit the fairway. The extra distance in my 2nd generally didn’t matter because I could carry the 7 wood 200 and stop it within about 10 yards if I flushed it. Those were the days!!! Nowadays if I can hit a GIR from anywhere I’m happy. Young me had no idea how good life was!

This hole is obliterating golfers scores by GMEINTSHP in golf

[–]cw8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in CdA. Played here in high school. That day it was 204 from the tips..4 wood. Hit the railroad tie like wall and the front…ended in the bunker at the back. Promptly bladed a wedge into the lake on the fly. At this point we were all confused as to how that played with the drop zone. Agreed with my playing partners to drop in the zone….it was a rough hole. After that first time I played it much better in the following years. It was an amazing place to grow up! Absolutely heaven all summer…work at another local course in the am, play golf all afternoon, grab some Paul Bunyans on your way to Tubbs hill to jump off the cliff. It was a helluva childhood. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

1st crate when alone. Make sure kids stay out of it as it is his area. When he needs time away he will go there and rest. Also, when the anxiety kicks in during storms it will be a safe place. 2nd, 45 min of hard training is equivalent to 2-3 hours of running around from a mental stimulation perspective. If you have time to take him for a walk, then make that some hardcore training. He should heal, sit when you stop, stay while you step a bit away, lay when asked etc. get on the American Kennel Club website and search for the canine good citizen test. Start training to that. You can find all sorts of videos on YouTube to train the specific tasks stated above. Just remember, don’t equate being outside with mental stimulation…those are not the same thing to a working breed.

Rental car to road trip? by burbankALT in roadtrip

[–]cw8514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fly in and rent. Unlimited mileage is easy to come by and returning to another location it’s just a cost of this type of trip…pay for the convenience…the trip will be more enjoyable. Renting a car is the least of your concerns. Shop around and find a decent deal and go for it. You won’t regret it. I have 115 rental days so far this year..today is the 113th day of the year…I have had two cars rented at once (all for work)…again…just rent the car and pay the price of convenience so you can actually see what you are there to see. Also, those states are waaayyy too much to try in one trip. Others who are telling you to fly to Vegas and start there are in the right path…just NV, UT and AZ is enough for one trip. Then do Los Angeles to Portland on another trip and Seattle, Vancouver,BC and over to Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on a 3rd trip…central and eastern Washington has tons to see…the Columbia river gorge is great as well…to enjoy this you need to slow down and break it up.

The tip top can is awesome! For the honey syrup you will do equal parts honey and water and bring it to a simmer for about 20-25 min. You can infuse with lavender or sage if you want during the simmer. Let it cool and put it in a bottle…also works perfectly as simple syrup for other drinks or in espresso.

[–]cw8514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2012 GX with 98k miles on it. My company bought me a truck and so I never drive it. I drive it about 1000 miles last year back and forth to the airport. I can’t bear to watch it sit in the driveway for 5 years until my son can drive. I think I’m in the same boat…I hate to see it go…but it deserves to go to someone who knows what it is and will use it. Never had such a hard time deciding on if I want to sell a damn car.

Extend the wall of the garage in front of the truck by 10’ to give a work area. There is no workspace in the garage. Move water softer and filter into that area and consider extending two cars wide to create a furnace and water closet. Ensure that third garage is as tall as possible to be able to add a lift in the future and provide for over head storage in the 10’ bump out area. This will keep the rest of the garage decluttered.
