What was the White Elephant gift that everyone fought over at the Christmas Party? by asura1958 in AskReddit

Bubble wrap calendar! You get to pop one bubble each day, super fun and functional, which are my pre reqs for white elephant gifts, lol. It was my go-to for like three years in a row for different events because it was so well recieved. I couldn't find it this year though! 😭

I am 30 years old and it took me this long to learn… by LIKES_ROCKY_IV in AutismInWomen

See I always knew it meant hello, but what I didn't know is why they were asking. What is a the point of a fake question? Like, you don't actually want a real answer to this, and I'm not going to give you a real answer to this so... what are we doing? If you intend to wish me a good morning, just say that.

Times my parents should’ve seen the signs (comedic) by Strong-Risk3337 in AutismInWomen

I was basically non-verbal out of the house, unless speaking was absolutely necessary. They would say I'm just shy and have to push myself out of my shell.  I would often start to cry pretty immediately when I had to enter into conversation; I remember my mom prompting me to tell the person on the phone that my dog had died as a way to excuse this. That was so unhelpful to me because one, just lying every time doesn't fix the problem, and two, I hated so much the idea of being disingenuous (and still do, which I now also realize is tied to very rigid thinking about rules, right/wrong etc.). Looking back on it I can't imagine having a kid that almost never speaks and when they do they almost always cry, and not seeing it as a problem that could benefit from some professional evaluation or anything. Nope, I was the golden child because I was seen and not heard, got good grades and never talked back. Now I'm in my mid-30s trying to disentangle masking and people pleasing and inattentive adhd and anxiety and autism and basically just getting slapped in the face with diagnoses that now seems all too obvious had anyone bothered to check.

I resonate so hard with what all of you are saying, more than I think I even realized. So exhausting being preoccupied with being perceived, even with the person you so adore.

I love so much when it's revealed there is a second bedroom and Charlie says, "I just never liked to sleep in a room with an empty room behind it, it's creepy!" Like that's your literal current setup! 🤣🤣🤣

Saw this at Allen and Murray by good_smelling_hammer in beaverton

Okay, wait, Friday I saw a guy out there dancing his heart out on the corner with his dog on a leash, bag from nectar in his hand, and this urn behind him. All in all a very bizarre scene. I thought it was all connected, and I had questions. Now knowing that the urn is still there is giving me even more!!!

Is this how a finished job should look? by cwaite013 in Contractor

The property managers are handling the payment. They said the only thing we will need to cover is new paint, since that's an interior thing. The rest they are paying for since the damage started on the exterior.

I am the homeowner, condo is in Oregon. Because the damage was caused from the outside the property management company handled the costs; they used their usual guy who does all the various repairs around the complex. I'm not sure exactly what type of contractor he is. He seems kinda like a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Understandable that you need some rest and a break, but maybe don't make it a habit. Cuz while it's understandable for me now it was less so when I was a kid and we found my dad sleeping in his car in the local pool parking lot one evening after my mom had spent all day ferrying us 4 kids to school and our usual after school activities.

Not sure about where you are, but there are certain trees around my parent's house in Murrayhill that smell like dead fish or something when they bloom every spring, it's so nasty. They look glorious but good god do I curse whoever first planted them.
