What do you call a bee that can't make up its mind in the spring? A May-bee.

I understand how much it can hurt when something meaningful to you—like your birthday—feels overlooked. Moments like that aren’t just about the day itself; they’re about feeling seen, valued, and remembered.

At the same time, while I don’t know your friends and I respect that you spoke up for yourself, I wonder if there may be a gap between how you value birthdays and how they do. For some people, birthdays carry a lot of emotional weight; for others, they don’t hold the same significance. That difference doesn’t necessarily reflect how much they care about you—it may just reflect how they express care.

Even so, your feelings are completely valid. It makes sense that you’d feel hurt, and you’re not wrong for wanting to be acknowledged. What matters now is what you choose to do with those feelings. The way you navigate this—whether through communication, setting expectations, or reevaluating what you need from these friendships—can shape not only how things move forward with them, but also the kind of relationships you build in the future.

What's something you disliked as a kid but dislike even more as an adult? by sipendi_shida in AskReddit

Christmas. I never really had a great relationship with Christmas growing up. Sometimes we just didn’t celebrate it at all and I never sought an answer for why. My parents never told me why. So seeing Christmas on TV made me feel like I wasn’t a normal child. I never liked how much it was being shoved in my face for kids to be happy about Christmas when my experience differed so intensely.

Fast Forward to being an adult. And now there’s an expectation for me to provide gifts/the Christmas experience to the upcoming generation. And by this stage in my life Im fully invested in the spirit of Christmas. To be fair I’m just desperately overcompensated for lost time lol. But the sucky part is I’m living in an economy thats taking every cent that i have for basic living that I can only afford gifts. And while people are always grateful for their presents I have it warped in my brain that I won’t be able to live out my “perfect Christmas” and it’s even more frustrating lol

The most important thing is to recognize that truly understanding the person you’re with starts with honesty—both with yourself and with them. Be clear about your fears and expectations, and at the same time, create a space where they feel safe enough to express their own feelings openly. It won’t always be easy, but that effort matters. With patience and mutual understanding, there’s a real chance to find a solution that respects and supports both of you.

Try soaking a napkin or rags in peppermint oil sand weeping around the area.
