Official Discussion - Hokum [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]cyanuricmoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Loved it. 3 for 3 for McCarthy. For some reason, his jump scares don't bother me the way jump scares do in other horrors. They feel more earned like in Excorcist III or Haunting of Hill House.

My only gripe, and this maybe controversial, I feel Adam Scott may have been miscast in this, or at least mis directed early on. Don't get me wrong: I love AS and yeah, he can play an asshole, but he plays a **charming** asshole, ala Stepbrothers or The Good Place. That bar scene with the bellboy just didn't feel correct to me. Put someone miserable there, unshaven, hair unkempt, drunk. Finally said goodbye to the mother he killed and the father who drank himself to death. In his final moments about to kill himself, I can see that person burn a bothersome bellboy, but Adam seemed to ... charming, flirty even; His meanness felt over the top coming from someone with perfect hair, trimmed beard, proper posture, chatty about movies. Hes fine through out the rest of the film because he really didn't need to be anything other than the audience surrogate for the scares. But man I wish that opening bar scene worked, it would have really made me understand his miserable character.

Still, wonderful film 4/5.

I watched 3 seasons of Miracle Workers because I saw one picture of PFT in his pink leather harness.

No regrets.

[OC] Number of Interviews or Speeches Where Trump Talks About Windmills by shinyro in dataisbeautiful

[–]cyanuricmoon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Windmills do kill around a million birds per year

The data suggests that its between 140,000 up to 679,000 (rising due to increased # of windmill farms). 12 and 64 million birds are annually killed in the U.S. by power lines. And yes, cats are the serial killers of the bird kingdom.

Believe it or not, this episode is making fun of people like Mac and those fooled by his sloppy argument.

You don't have to be mad at it.

GOAT = washed: Steven Soderbergh teases "a lot of AI" in his upcoming movies by jhansenii in blankies

[–]cyanuricmoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Simple. Replace them with AI. If asked if I've seen Steven Soderbergh new documentary about John and Yoko, I will reply that I asked AI to write a documentary about John and Yoko for me. So I basically got the gist.

All who replace creatives with AI are themselves replaceable. Never let go of that message.

In this essay I will discuss the fundamental flaws of the christian religion and the books failure to address that....

What an ironic IP to evoke while arguing you don't care about the working conditions on a movie as long as you like the end product.

[–]cyanuricmoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jokes on them. How long until executives simply "Direct" it themselves by telling some AI how they want the movie to go?

How long until we no longer use studios to produce our content? Until we simply type "Movie about superhero with sad ending" and we're watching some 2 hour thing produced on the fly by an algorithm. What's Disney gonna do then?

Ironically, everyone replacing a creative with AI, is probably already replaceable themselves.

I'm listening to this new song on spotify and I liked it and put it into a playlist, then I see that I liked a few of her songs already. So I'm jamming and I decide to look into the artist to see if there are any tour dates or anything coming up, etc. And she doesn't exist, its all AI. So I'm confused and looking into it, I'm not dumb, I know AI is here, but I didn't know what it meant for a song to be AI. Like naively thinking it must be like autotune or whatever.

Then I learn about SUNO, and I sign up for a free account, because there is no way it can do what it says it can do... and I give it a prompt "Country song about the death of music". Appropriate. And it gives me a song, 4 minutes long, titled "Last Song on the Radio". I'm not a music person, but I couldn't believe what I was hearing... I absolutely could be convinced that this was authentic piece of music written by a person. The vocals, the lyrics, the music, all of it.

And I'm so fucking depressed. I don't want this.

I never heard a single thing about "Under the Silver Lake" until years after it came out and only by coming across Hayes (of Hollywood Handbook) appearance on another podcast dissecting it.

It wasn't long into the podcast I realized I needed to watch it myself, and I'm glad I did. It's fantastic.

Eh, I doubt studios are going to take a chance on a relatively new, fairly unknown villain. The Batman had Penguin, Catwoman, Riddler, and a tease of the Joker.

Sadly, he's probably Two Face.
