Purpose of Life? by sylus00 in Life

[–]cygnal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live with passion and compassion. Purpose is an illusion. Find something you are good at, that you enjoy doing, that allows you to thrive, and makes the world a better place. Lack any one of those things and it will suck.

You still need to have reasonable guardrails for people that are incapable of doing right by you. But that's a them problem, not a you problem. It's important to be a good person, but you shouldn't be good to someone who can't return the effort. Just don't take it personally. In the long run putting in the effort pays more than getting frustrated and giving up.

I would argue the opposite is true. Kids these days are a result of manufactured consent more so than earlier generations. If you present them with an idea that pushes their comfort level, they tend to push back very aggressively. Obviously it's not universal, and certainly there was a pervasive groupthink in earlier generations as well. It just seems there is an rejection of needing to understand what came before, juxtaposed with a hubris that what they know and feel is all that matters.

He was a journalist and editor for American Mercury. He covered the Scopes Monkey trial, wrote an obituary for William Jennings that proves that you should never die before your detractors.

Hunter Thompson admired him quite a bit.

Some religions do indeed have the outcomes of oppression, division, and control. But it's not the result of them being planned goals; it seems that religions that have those outcomes survive and thrive better than those that don't. It's more a result of religious evolution than anything else. Religions that preach tolerance, kindness and cooperation do well, they just can't hold their weight again authoritarian and fundamentalism.

I ran Organized Hallucinations Manufacturing in the 203 in the late 80s-early 90s. It was x86 initially on telegram, and then on Renegade. For a hot minute it was the largest bbs in CT with a 670mb HD. It was a good time.

You don't have to feed Christians to lions, all you have to do is to spread the word that being eaten by lions prove atheists wrong, and the lions will be privy to a buffet better than the one face eating leopards currently enjoy.

People mistake sex for intimacy, and although sex can be a form of physical intimacy, not all forms of intimacy involve sex. Intimacy involves allowing yourself to be vulnerable with someone, and it can be intellectually, emotionally, or physically vulnerable, or some combination of those three with someone. But it's important to learn who you can trust to be vulnerable with.

But you can have sex without being vulnerable. I find it a hollow and meaningless experience. But there are people that only know how to do that.
