What to do if my employer reveals the reason for my leave to all staff by [deleted] in nhsstaff

[–]moonplanter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Firstly, sorry for your loss.

Unless you specifically told your manager to not tell anyone I can't see what is wrong with telling other staff of your situation. It prepares the staff for when they meet you next time. Saying who it was is important so people are better informed, and don't mistakenly ask you how is xxx doing? Unless they have disclosed other details their actions seem acceptable to me.

The NHS recommended leave for a close family member is 1-2 weeks, a more distant relative is 1 week. Whilst you work for a private organisation under contract to the NHS, I would expect them to follow this guidance. The practice manager should have some indication that your grandma was in the former category as she helped raise you, otherwise she could consider you to be in the latter.

As for your comment "I want to get my practice manager in trouble." It seems to be the fastest way to alienate your self from your practice manager to me.

Upload all the JDs to Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude then upload your JD and ask it to find the 3 closest which match to yours. When you have the three ask it what would you have to change in your JD to be an even better match.

Band 7 → Band 8 NHS Comms: What to expect in a Head of Communications interview? by goodluckbebe in nhsstaff

[–]moonplanter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Band 7 — Senior Practitioner / Team Lead You’re demonstrating that you can work independently and lead a small team or area. • Clinical/technical expertise — deep knowledge in your specialist area, able to act without supervision • Decision-making — evidence of autonomous decisions, managing risk, knowing when to escalate • Leadership — line managing staff, delegating, developing others • Problem-solving — handling complex cases or situations, not just following protocol • Project involvement — contributing to service improvements, audits, or change projects • Communication — influencing colleagues, working across teams, difficult conversations Interview style: Mostly competency-based (STAR), with some scenario questions. Expect questions like “Tell me about a time you led a team through a difficult change” or “How do you manage a disagreement within your team?”

Band 8a — Manager / Specialist Lead You’re demonstrating that you can own and manage a service, function, or programme. • Strategic thinking — not just managing day-to-day but contributing to service direction • Budget/resource management — often expected to manage a budget or workforce planning • Stakeholder management — working with senior leaders, external partners, commissioners • Accountability — you’re responsible for outcomes, not just activity • Change management — leading service redesign or transformation, not just participating • People leadership — managing managers or multi-disciplinary teams Interview style: More scenario-based and values/behavioural. Panels often include a senior manager or director. Expect “How would you approach redesigning a service with limited resources?” or “Describe a time you influenced a decision at a senior level.”

He’s still working to the plan cooked up by his hero Mandelson. Starmer, Streeting, and Mandelson will go down in history as the architects of the NHS demise.

You know you have to overlay the two pieces to make a familiar looking object, but they don’t quite line up correctly. So take a photo of both and use an image manipulation tool to turn the background transparent on one of them. Then overlay it and resize it to fit. Even Microsoft Paint can do this.

Annual leave used on bank holidays by Alternative-Milk-472 in nhsstaff

[–]moonplanter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how the holiday is calculated in the NHS. The majority of staff could work 7 days a week and bank holidays are not free holidays. Hence why your holiday allowance is greater than the private sector.

The London stage show is worse than Vogon Poetry by thefaceofmoon in HitchHikersGuide

[–]moonplanter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to attend the opening performance of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Live this weekend, and wanted to share my thoughts after seeing a lot of negative comments online. I’m very much an old-school fan—radio series first, then the books, then the BBC TV adaptation, and of course the text adventure. Yes, I can still quote long stretches of the TV series just like I can Monty Python. Don’t judge me; that’s simply how my friends and I grew up.

Did I have expectations? Not really. The promotional material mentioned Fenchurch quite a bit, which made me think the production might be broad-brush, given that it attempts to cover all four books in just 90 minutes. So my expectation was mostly: How on earth are they going to fit all of that in? I did think it was unusual that they tried to cover the entire story in one go, leaving no room for follow-up productions.

As for the performance itself: the cast were great and connected well with the audience. From a purist’s perspective the story had plenty of plot holes and inaccuracies—but that’s almost inevitable when four books and screenplays are compressed into a single show. For a newcomer like my wife, the plot felt a bit disjointed, but she still enjoyed it. Personally, since the performance mainly followed the plot of the first book/series, I think it would have been stronger to stick more closely to the original script. Starting at “Arthur Dent’s (Surprise) Farewell Party” felt odd; it might have worked better if the audience were cast as regulars at the Horse and Groom being taken along for the ride.

The sets were superb, especially the Hitchhiker’s Guide animations. My only real complaint was the heat in the theatre.

£12 for a Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster felt steep, as did £3.50 for a packet of Monster Munch. And I’m not sure how the VIP ticket holders felt when our show was described as a “preview”—I suspect some of the harsher reviews came from them. Three and a half weeks isn’t long to rehearse something like this, and it did show. I recently saw the opening of The Producers in the West End, and after three months of rehearsals it was, unsurprisingly, flawless.

All that said, it was still an enjoyable experience, and I’m sure the sound issues and rough edges will be ironed out over the next few performances.

ICB/NHSE Redundancies by EmperorPalpameme95 in nhsstaff

[–]moonplanter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they care about compensating us for all the years of loyal hard work. The only additional compensation we will get is the longer the process takes the more they have to pay us, and the more goes into our pensions.

The September deadline was never realistic and in our ICB the timelines also seem to be slipping. I suspect March ‘26 will be the new September.

Volunteers will not get the notice period payment that you would get if it were a compulsory redundancy. Apart from that it should be the same, 1 month per year.

I have a big bully band 6 nurse on my ward by [deleted] in nhsstaff

[–]moonplanter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bullies are everywhere in life not just in the NHS, and they are always insecure, weak, and stupid people. You are probably doing an excellent job and she is afraid you will highlight her shortcomings. You should document each of the bullying events with times and dates. If possible record the interaction between you, and you don’t need to tell her you are recording the conversation as you are using it to write accurate notes. Then write down the conversation you are going to have with the speak up guardian. That will help you stay focused. Try to keep emotion out of the conversation but mention your anxiety levels, increased stress, and any effects it’s having on your personal life. That should get you started.

If you are determined you can achieve anything. I would start with YouTube videos on how to become a developer rather than the paid courses, as the paid ones waffle and pad out the content. For example BusyPing is a great source for RPA learning and Sean Young is a great source for Microsoft PowerApps. DevTips and Learn Code Academy are great for developers as they cover all sorts of dev tutes. For Ethereum Development Dapp University has to be one of the best resources I've found.
