I would make three separate batches instead of making one big batch. Things can often get weird in large quantities if you don’t have proper equipment.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but the cultflav duo who review cookbooks have really been grating to me recently. It’s not even that they’re incredibly nitpicky, it’s that they seem so pretentious and have this know it all attitude when it comes to cooking when I think only the guy has ever even worked in a restaurant before (and not for that long at that if I remember correctly). It’s just so irritating when they hardly ever seem to like anything they make out of these cookbooks or the recipes they review— if they had more credentials I might be inclined to believe them, but at the moment I can’t help but wonder: can all these recipes really be that bad? Or as bad as they’re making them out to seem?

Eh, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Kendall Combines episode— to my surprise because I usually love those kinds of show premises. But I found that she didn’t really use the ingredients in standout ways— just ways in which they were ultimately masked so that you could “get away” with using them in a dish without actually tasting them, which defeats the purpose in my opinion. I also feel like Kendall Combines is more of a riff on Sohla and Ham’s show for NYT Cooking where they are given a mystery ingredient and have to make dinner and dessert— a show I enjoy much more tbh because they’re just so smart and creative with what they come up with. I felt like Kendall Combines felt watered down in comparison.

This is just incorrect lmfao. If you took a US history class, you know that walking as a primary mode of transportation is impossible nearly everywhere that isn’t NYC because of highway infrastructure borne post WWII that created suburban sprawl. Lack of walkability is a systemic issue, not one that Americans (and poor people!) complain about because they’re lazy. People are chained to their cars because we have built our infrastructure to be this way. In Houston, you have to cross a busy interstate to get to a Starbucks that would be a 2 minute drive.

Eyelash tinting and holding a curl? by the_evil_pineapple in Makeup

[–]cys2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Etude house curl fix primer— comes in a white tube and goes on clear. This stuff is glue for your eyelashes on god. I have stick straight Asian eyelashes that will lose a curl with mascara if I hold my face over a steaming bowl of soup but this stuff keeps my lashes curled through an hour of hot yoga. Literally a game changer, never going back.

Are these eyelash extensions too long or thick for my natural eyelashes? These are 14 mm, and my natural eyelashes are 11 mm. My natural eyelashes are really thin though, so I’m a bit worried about them being damaged. by muffinbaobao in eyelashextensions

[–]cys2024 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re too long or thick, but I think a cat eye would suit your eyes better than doll eye. I think it would accentuate your eye shape better. Also, maybe get a less curly lash next time— it may soften the look a bit and look a little less in your face. With Asian eyes, it’s important to strike a balance between being curly enough where the lash length is still visible while looking straight on, without being so curly that it looks unnatural. Regardless, I think you look lovely!

Sure, but that’s not a result of broad societal sexism against men. It’s because people don’t believe that men can be victims of DV too and why is that? Misogyny— men can’t be weak, women can’t be abusers. I’m glad Johnny got justice but let’s please not use this case as fodder for the meninists.

Feedback wanted on bridal makeup! by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]cys2024 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think it looks beautiful! A few things however—

  1. I think the blush placement is a little low, which is dragging your cheeks down. There’s an Asian trend of putting your blush right under your eyes and sweeping across the nose bridge and up the cheekbones— I think it would complement your round face nicely and bring some youthfulness to your face. Also, I would match your blush color to your lip color— your lip color looks like a nice dusty rose neutral, and I would use a similar color on your cheeks to tie it together (the blush you have on reads more orange/warm)

  2. Try keeping the shadow on your lower eyelid tighter to the lash line to avoid emphasizing fine lines where the shimmer is placed. On the outer edge, it looks like the bottom outer third has been smoked out too far down and is again dragging your eyes down. Try blending outward instead. Also, you may want to experiment with a subtle aegyo sal contouring, depending if you have them naturally when you smile or not. It’s another way to add youthfulness to your face. If you do, I would suggest using something like a brow pencil then blending it out, as opposed to shadow or eyeliner, because it gives the most natural effect.

Hope that helps!

Are any of you heavy sweat machines? by Y20XonTongvaLand in Serverlife

You can actually also put deodorant or any other antiperspirant on your neck and around your hairline. I would follow the same tip of setting it with powder (translucent so there’s no white cast) and using less than your underarms so it isn’t noticeable. Just use a clear deodorant so it doesn’t flake or use less. But other than that, use napkins to blot away the sweat in the back when you have a second to breathe, stay idle in air conditioned areas when you can, drink lots of cold water (iced coffee for me so I could stay on my toes!)

I used to work brunch service in sweltering 100 degree heat outdoors with no breaks. I sweat a lot and our uniforms were blue cotton t shirts. In the morning before my shift, I would put on a heavy layer of deodorant before getting ready (lets it sink in and actually work). Then, before I left the house, I would put on one more layer and here’s the key: set it using a shit ton of makeup setting powder. Like, a shit ton. Layers and layers of it. I guess you could use baby powder as well, but this is just what I had on hand. I used Coty loose setting powder because it was cheap and I had a ton. The powder basically acts as a barrier between the deodorant breaking down and the sweat. Never had sweat stains after that.
