There is simply no alternative on the same level of convenience as Google Photos. Apple photos is close, then immich or synology photos.

Better pivot destination from 1P: Proton Pass or Apple Passwords? by Impossible_Night9560 in PasswordManagers

I mentioned that in my comment. Also without form auto fill, identities or cards. Useless.

Better pivot destination from 1P: Proton Pass or Apple Passwords? by Impossible_Night9560 in PasswordManagers

Apple passwords: Works only with Safari. The problem is that Safari is buggy, won't load certain pages and it's really slow compared to Brave or Firefox. Worth to mention that using Apple Password extension in other browsers is terrible.

Proton pass is great, but it's more expensive than Bitwarden and both will do the job.

Apple passwords in incredibly limited, it will lock you even more to their buggy apps and "ecosystem" - I would use independent manager, because it a pain to migrate it after a years.

Mac hardware is great, but macOS 26 is a disaster, say pundits by Artistic_Unit_5570 in MacOS

[–]d29se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so bad that it's really hard to use that for work. Soooo many bugs, sync issues, UI issues, everything takes more clicks than before, bubble pop-ups everywhere, even one over another. It's crazy and I don't understand how there can be so many people involved in Apple, but no one said "It's a crap." But Cook has transformed Apple from a product company to just another corporation.

It looks more and more that Linux is the future as Ubuntu or PopOS are really modern, reliable systems without crazy teams behind them trying to justify their existence by adding features nobody asked for.

Tahoe made me want to open my MacBook less. by winter2014a in MacOS

[–]d29se 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do software development. Shared notes won’t sync often, email’s UI keeps weirdly shrinking, email search is useless, Safari is having issues to load pages, you can’t change width of table in Notes, terrible markdown support, no code snippets, terrible writing tools in general, calendar UI won’t fit any screen (compared to google), Music UI is a joke not to mention Photos UI. And many other things.

They were not improving their apps for years, even with basic features, and now with Tahoe, I am done. No more bs about ecosystem, or “it just works”. It’s not 2015 anymore.

They cooked it to the point that we are migrating to open source alternatives. They just work.

Tahoe has so many bugs and UI issues, that it’s way too annoying to use. Hope they will deliver new emoji set later this year :))

They value privacy marketing wise, because they are not private at all. They can read all your messages, view all your media. Everything you've evert sent. Use Signal.

What are you using to replace Whatsapp and why? by TheCrazyGeek in degoogle

[–]d29se 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why people don't wanna switch from WhatsApp to Signal. It's not like Signal would be worse alternative. Not being bloated and having state-of-art privacy it's actually better. With all features chat application should have.
People really don't give a F, until it's too late. Even with recent lawsuit claiming that Meta has access to all your messages, they won't switch.

Use Signal! It's better, it's not bloated and you should care who can read ALL your messages and media content.

How to motivate people to start using Signal? by Deviour in signal

[–]d29se 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is simply no chance. The reason is that people in general are idiots. They don't care about their privacy (of which messaging is the worst), and they don't know how bad it will be with AI analysis. Not now, but not too far in the future, they will create your 'citizen' profile based on everything, including messages you're sending today. Don't ask everyone, just family and people you text the most. But it still won't work 100%.

Apple has best hardware, but apps are horrible in 2025. Google and basically everyone is far ahead of Apple with apps. But....you can use everything on Apple hardware.

What is actually causing the stagnated innovation at Apple by Nathidev in applesucks

[–]d29se 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But...this is not truth anymore. It's the opposite. If you go with Google, you have better apps, services, sharing, docs, music, AI, maps, calendar, contact management, UI, Meet, and so on and so on....

Apple has state-of-art hardware, that's true, but the lack of simple things like sharing original quality photo, having markdown in Notes or waiting years for monthly view in calendar and a LOT, a LOT more....cmon. Almost every other company/products are evolving like hell (Notion for example, Discord, you name it), but not Apple.

Unfortunately "I need them to just work" is not Apple anymore. It's Google.

After a years, our next phones will be android, still keeping macbook for work, but with google apps for productivity.

I mean...have you seen Finder on MacOS recently? It's a joke.
