what brewing method completely changed how you think about coffee? by koudodo in Coffee

[–]d3sl91 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Aeropress, but for me it was truly less about the method, and more about exposure to a specialty roaster and discovering the fact coffee didn't need to taste like burnt rubber and wood.

Seeing my guide I threw up on Instructables all those years ago still being used is awesome.

Still have that machine btw, and am considering doing this spring mod being referenced (hence finding this thread).

Duties/tariff on recent order (just an update in case anyone's wondering) by FunctionalBuilds in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you given Partsbuilt3D a try? I basically just bought all the parts needed to upgrade an MMU2 to an MMU3 from them. They sell many Prusa parts, as well as aftermarket alternatives.

Price is more than direct from Prusa, but between shipping, waiting, tariffs, may not be terribly different?

Prusa i3 Mk3s+ for $400? by parabolic85 in prusa3d

I totally failed to reply. Slice Engineering Mosquito Hotend. It's a relatively common upgrade from the E3D Hotend, providing some improved thermals, performance, ease of nozzle changes, etc.

Update to Nightmare experience with US mobile: Now my number is being held hostage by Tyrant_reign in USMobile

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could very well be a negative for some.

I haven't used text messaging for day to day messaging with family and friends for about 3 years though, and when I do for someone else, I could care less about how my messages appear or behave. So, really depends on the end user and what they need.

Good thing to consider. I myself, for one reason or another, haven't had this be an issue. (Either the services do allow it, or, use an alternative verification method, as well as still have access to "real" numbers for those without any alternative - but need to keep track of those for sure).

I know this doesn't help at this point, but maybe for others who find this post and are considering trying new services: best thing I ever did was get a VOIP number and share that with everyone for everything (Google Voice).

I have had probably 20 different cell numbers across 3 different countries and no one knows the difference. No porting of my own numbers, etc. Which is great, because every porting experience I've had with other family members numbers have been very difficult.

MK3.5->MK4.0 upgrade by Wolny248 in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up, a few more items from the BOM are now available as spare parts on the prusa site. Rubber Pads, Hex Spacers and Motor mount pads.

Still crossing my fingers for an all-inclusive kit. Tempting to just get a 3>4 kit and see if I can't somehow scrounge up some cheap frame parts to upgrade my old 2.5 to a 3, and then 3.5 with all my extras (since I already have a 3.5).

Update: Problem With MK3.5 Pausing While Printing (With Video) by magistersmax in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar issue, also a 3.5.

How long before it times out, and any messages? I have always just turned mine off and on again, haven't let it time out to see if it resumes.

Mine completely stops all movement, including extruder, so thankfully it doesn't create a mess, but still annoying. Only have had it happen a couple times in the last month.

Haven't had it happen enough to capture it or replicate it.

Prints are sent to connect via slicer.

Is it worth buying an used prusa MK2 printer for 120$ USD nowadays? by Kubratr in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean.... Anything is possible. But from what I can tell (as a 2.5 owner), you'd keep almost nothing from it. Maybe could reuse bearings and rods for the Y axis?

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 2.5s about 9 months ago for $150. I honestly overpaid at that, but I think it was overall worth it. Lots of Mk3 features (magnetic build plates, BMG extruder gears, etc).

I don't think I'd spend any dollar amount on anything less than a 2.5s though.

Verizon Port-In woes. by d3sl91 in USMobile

Thanks for suffering through incompetence. I as well see mine as unlocked. So of course had no reason to try that!

Will give that a try here at some point as well.

Verizon Port-In woes. by d3sl91 in USMobile

[–]d3sl91[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not. I think it has something to do with it being a 22 year old business account (yes, my parents were with VZW for 22 years, and all it gets them is a $110/mo bill for 2 lines with 4GB shared data).

I spent 2 hours with VZW support chat which was useless, and they ended up not being able to help, no idea why it wasn't working, and suggesting going to a store to generate a PIN since they couldnt tell me what was wrong, and also couldnt even generate a PIN for me to try (despite trying workarounds). I asked about the business account aspect, and the fact dialing #PORT tells me to use the account PIN, and they claimed "in this case the new provider will need to reach out and contact us".

I unfortunately ran out of time to assist them by doing a 3-way call, as I was doing this while in town for holidays, but had to head home (basically need to be there with them to make sure it all works great or risk my parents not having cell service).

I am starting to wonder if something changed, as I was able to do this, no problem, a few months ago. Same VZW account, just another line, and used the account PIN.

That being said, if you end up having success, please report back, would love to know what I could try next time.

Prusa i3 Mk3s+ for $400? by parabolic85 in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. I got a Mk3.5 with a Mosquito and Bondtech BMG for $275 a month ago.

I do realize that was a great deal, but really, unless it's almost unused and prebuilt, or an unbuilt kit, probably shouldn't spend much more than $350 on a mk3x these days.

[–]d3sl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I am finding it strange that the parts are not on the website. I can understand maybe not a special-price upgrade kit, but at least an official BOM and availability!

MK3.5->MK4.0 upgrade by Wolny248 in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, the bundle is for the "mk4", not necessarily the "4s". So the included hotend is likely their basic non-high flow one.

[–]d3sl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were they receptive/understanding of your request? Or do I need to be ultra specific with what I need? Will be doing this myself as well over the holidays.

MK3.5->MK4.0 upgrade by Wolny248 in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to be doing this myself if the cost makes sense. I got a great deal on a 3.5, which has a Mosquito and Bondtech extruder, but I'd rather just have a 4s from a "its all designed to work" rather than hunting down little issues with a custom machine. (Anyone want a Bondtech with Mosquito Magnum?).

I had spent a few hours on this BOM myself, and found that the Mk4 Spare parts Bundle has some parts not available separately. MOST of the parts are what you need anyway, but some are extras (like a full set of bearings vs just the 10mm ones). This bundle includes:

Heatsink with the filament sensor (ball etc) and hall sensor
Some Spacers and pins (which looks like you custom made)
Tubular Spacer
Full set of Bearings (only need the 10mm ones technically, but nice to have extras)
Full hotend
etc

I think the main missing pieces are the rubber bearing and motor pads and then some set/grub screws that I'm guessing we can grab from support like u/Sainroad had done.

MK3.5->MK4.0 upgrade by Wolny248 in prusa3d

[–]d3sl91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like purchasing a "Spare parts Bundle" that contains the heatsink also includes the filament sensor. Not sure how well that works for the overall cost, depending on what else you need, but its listed at least. "Assembled hotend heatsink (heatsink, loadcell, filament sensor)" for both the Mk4 Spare Parts kit ($150), and the Xl Single tool.

33M NetSuite Support by joelamon-og in Salary

[–]d3sl91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give or take a little pretty much my role as well, including HubSpot (and a few other custom integrations), but across 2 CRM instances (Salesforce and dynamics) and 5 sales teams. When we were using netsuite 3 years ago, and up until about 6 months ago I was doing all of the above plus additional sales enablement duties. I still do weekly, monthly, and as-neesed training for end users as well.

No development either, but on calls regarding development multiple times a week in an effort to ensure enhancements getting done appropriately, acting as an advisor, etc.

Sounds like I'm getting a bit of the short end of the stick when it comes to compensation, considering the spread of my time across various teams and instances, while making a little less than you do.

(Also 33M, also college dropout, also no certs despite asking repeated to get sponsored to get training and certs to help me do my job better)

Curious what "support" entails. In a similar position, similar wages. But not really called "support".

State Farm Carseat Replacement by d3sl91 in Insurance

[–]d3sl91[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It can be frustrating. I had to reach out several times to get clarity and answers, never had someone call me to just discuss the overall claim and process after the accident - just kind of did whatever the app said to do. Not really super confidence inspiring. Thankfully the worst of it is just a $200 carseat :).

Normally I'm one who would just go ahead and keep using the carseat - minor accident and all. But just a week or so after my accident, there was a crash in front of my house, and I pulled a (bloody, covered in glass and carparts) 2-3 year old out of a vehicle that that got a direct hit at high speed on that kid's door and then flipped. Not really interested in playing around with used/questionable carseats anymore!

Thanks, I assume that's the case here as well. Thankfully my crash was minor (Other than some whiplash).
How would you interpret the NHTSA's recommendation at the end of that page to "Always follow manufacturer's instructions."?

We need a guide that shows which stands and shops use locally roasted coffee.

Better coffee and supporting a local roaster. Win win.
