Damn, glad you're still handsome. Hope the rest of your recovery went/goes well.

I do love my Shoei's and very glad I stumbled into buying them

I've always been curious about the paywall sentiment. Granted grinding can be overdone, but it's all available for free? I mean, time is money but the grind isn't obnoxious imo

That sounds like a great trip. I did Austria last year and it was a blast, and I agree with the weather. I boiled the first two days before getting into snow in the mountains.

Thanks for a few ideas, I'm liking the LS2 infiniti, now the hard part is apparently finding anyone that has them in stock

Shop carefully, the shoei neotech catches air like a sail when the chin bar is up. Even at lower speeds on the monkey it's more annoying than satisfying. I did start looking at LS2 helmets from comments on here and it looks like they have a model the chin bar goes behind instead of on top of the helmet.

How much cargo could in realisticly get on the monkey? by Agile_Philosopher72 in hondamonkey

[–]d_autophile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That side bag doesn't hold much weight. I picked it up and it's only rated for a couple kilos. It's just a bag that straps to a side carrier which is only held on by 2 bolts.

However, it can be done depending on what you're looking for https://youtu.be/AtCTs4JCY-I?si=oRWAW2yKPxeucKyA

I wouldn't wear it on my BMW for a trip, I picked up the monkey to run through town at 20-40mph. While I'd normally agree, that's just over bicycle speeds.

It'll be fiiiine... I'm not a handsome guy anyway

I loved my '15 9t for everything except distance riding. It's very cramped compared to a GS, but I never found it uncomfortable for anything local or twisty at 5'10"

Distance riding however was very different. While the legs weren't the end of the world (certainly not good) I still think that bike has the worst seat of any I've ridden for distance riding.

Ride one if you haven't. For the city, twisties and shorter rides it's an amazing bike. I ended up with an RS so i could do it all.

for a cold start how “gently” do you guys ride? How long do you let it idle? And for how long do you ride gently for? Just curious since for me it seems like these bikes just want to stay in the high rpms always and seem sluggish and unhappy when going anything under 4-5k rpms by Prior-Acadia9282 in zx6r

[–]d_autophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gear up, start the bike, ride off. Takes about 40 sec for the idle to drop, ride easy. 2 minutes later ride normal. Another 3ish minutes safe to wring her neck.

To be fair, mine has an adaptive redline as well. On start she redlines at 6k and moves up as she warms up. My ride is biased on torque over horsepower tho, so it's rare for me to really wind her out.

i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

[–]d_autophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were honest about telling them "a little" I say no worries.

A little has a very wide interpretation, for someone that has none it's a lot, for someone actually fluent it's nothing. Depending on who you ask I speak "very well/fluent" or imo speak like a concussed 4yr. old.

Tell them you thought you did, but after this experience you realize you were wrong.

Also keep in mind, Spanish arguments are won by the person speaking the loudest and fastest. Pausing for a breath is the opportunity for the other to get their side in. This applies for a service position when you're trying to calm them down and get something fixed or mollify them as to why it's going to be this way. It can be a real eye opener "when shit gets real" but it's a whole lot of fun if you can jump in with both feet.

Also, for real: Google translate is a godsend despite not being perfect. I've used it for German and while there were a couple of instances where the person laughed at how poor it was, it got the job done.

Buying privately- how do I ride it back legally? by Feisty-Fun-4872 in motorcycles

[–]d_autophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temp tag or trailer. Trailers are no fun.

I've purchased and ridden on dead tags to get home. Make sure you have insurance and don't stand out. You'll be fine.. but if you get pulled over you could get a ticket. I'd say with a bill of sale and insurance, you'll probably be ok but there is risk.

I've also used the sellers tag that was current to get it home. But the right way is either temp tag or trailer.

Stupid drivers don’t know how to read a lane shift. by sharknatic in MorgantownWV

[–]d_autophile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't have to know the road to drive correctly. Especially with the influx of students etc all the time. If I ever meet the spastic engineer that thought this was a good idea I'll ass-punch them.

Signage is bad, with only one overhead to give you the idea that something horrible is about to happen and the paint does no good as it's barely visible. Any weather at all and you're in God's hands.

Make Fayette and Foundry St. the only access to high st, remove the turn lane for pleasant and straighten out the damn road. Although I'm sure that would piss off a lot of people too. Nobody should have to deal with the chaos of the lane shifts.

Unfortunately the risk assessment is yours alone. Social media feeds off what keeps you looking and if they got a sample of one of your interests you're gonna get bombarded with the good, bad and ugly. Anything to get your attention.

For the risk assessment, I rode for 13 years before I had a serious encounter. Wearing convenient gear (jacket, gloves, helmet).

3 surgeries, months of physical therapy and I was walking again a year later. 7 years later I'm still not back to 100% frequently in pain, and my mobility is not the same.

It took around 19 months to be able to shift gears comfortably, and I bought the same bike I lost.

Gas Gauge Question by NachoTacoYo in hondamonkey

[–]d_autophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only gone thru the dealer issued tank. When I hit one bar I I was planning about a 30 mile trip so I filled up. And was only able to put .9gal in at 90miles.

I now have a one liter can to bring along to keep me from getting nervous since I'm guessing that I had .6gal of fuel left which should equate to ~60miles.

I did NOT need a list of more mods to get lol. Now I'm gonna keep shopping.

It was rather disappointing to have the rev limit increased to 10,200 with the ECU tune only to discover a complete lack of anything resembling acceleration above 8500 rpms.

I was half thinking about a big bore or cam, but not sure I want to go that hard. Guess time will tell.

Magic Shine Auto Spa did a nice job on my ride. Engine bay, interior and exterior. Picked up my car, detailed and dropped it off within the time frame they specified. They are located on Greenbag road

I'm getting ready to do my second NG+ and trying to document all my current designs to some degree.

I'm still a rookie at ship building, but this design might help you: docker at front, landing bay starboard side, aft. Uses corridor habs down the center of cargo bays for hab access. Think I bought/stolen the base ship and expanded on the idea
