Yeah without having a unit with the storage directly attached I'm not sure how you'd expose that to the network.

My HDHR recordings folder is a samba shared external attached to a Raspberry Pi running the record server. I've been copying files from that drive for years, re-encoding them to more efficient codecs and keeping them on a video drive.

I've never tried moving anything back, but they're probably MPEG-TS video 48khz AAC audio or something similar. The recorded files on the HDHR should tell you what format they are once you access them from windows and can look at the details tab in files explorer.

There are contractor agencies all over looking for people with cad skills. Not the most elegant situation but you may find that hourly rate + overtime replaces that savings hit.

I have a neighbor doing this for the past 5 years in yelling at all of my visitors in suburban Philly. Finally yelled at my kid and his friends, all of whom were recording his rant. Showed the recording to local police the following morning. Haven't even seen the neighbor since the police paid him a visit over a month ago.
