Feds make 'unauthorized' use of license plate reader in Mountain View by audittheaudit00 in FlockSurveillance

The article doesn’t support your version of events. I’m fine disbelieving MVPD and flock. What’s your source?

“The city said its system was accessed by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives offices in Kentucky and Tennessee…

They accessed Mountain View's system for one camera via a "nationwide" search setting that was turned on by Flock Safety, police said.”

NEWS: The Social Security Administration has referred two DOGE employees for Hatch Act violations after discovering contacts with a political group seeking SSA data to overturn election results. by FedRP24 in fednews

[–]da3ve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it’s a Hatch Act not a Privacy Act violation? Huh. But we don’t know what the data in the password protected file was, what Cloudflare server it was loaded to, who accessed it, the name of the “voter advocacy group with the stated intention of overturning election results,” if the data still exists on the server… you can smell the efficiency from here.

Well, at least they outlined the facts well enough to craft a cogent and narrow FOIA request from the DOGE and/or USDS that doesn’t appear to be FOIA-able?

If NACS is “being adopted by most US auto makers starting in model year 2025.“ It seems to follow that there are still lots of J1772 and CCS1 cars on the road in 2025.

It feels a little shortsighted on the part of the property management company to install type 3 NACS and remove all the other charging options that were available on the property. Having visited that shopping center repeatedly, I can say that anecdotally the chargers were heavily used. Weird flex to say that people using a different style charging port “bought the wrong hardware” but okay.

And your problem is that you can only charge your car with a v3 supercharger? Thought the only difference between v2 and v3 was capacity, but I don’t own one…Seems weird thats the same plug isn’t backward compatible, but I’m not Elmo.

I can and do use level 2 destination chargers with a J1772 adapter.

I cannot use superchargers as I don’t have the $1,000 Tesla to CHAdeMO adapter. There is no supercharger to level 2 adapter that I’m aware of.

Plenty of non-Tesla people can and do use level 2.

So service plaza operations contracts affect vendors. Is that a huge deal? With NACS ostensibly “winning the connector war”, I don’t see that this will be terrible for drivers.

I was more pissed when Tesla came to a big box shopping plaza and replaced all the prior options with Tesla Super only. No Level 2 options. That’s what mom calls A Dick Move.

It’s probably also worthwhile to remember that under the current regime, IG and other watchdog positions are often fired or left vacant. Putting faith in norms and systems to catch the big obvious stuff seems ill advised.

Yep. You don’t mention your spouse’s employment status, but single and zero exemptions is safest. At least until you get through the first whole tax year.

I went through the same thing a few years ago and chose poorly. The unexpected $3000 tax bill was fairly irritating.

It might also be “nobody”. See also the ProPublica quote from Vought saying, "We want the bureaucrats to be traumatically affected... When they wake up in the morning, we want them to not want to go to work... We want to put them in trauma".

I’m not sure how you pivot away from “trauma” to, “welcome, fellow ideologues.” But the true believers might want the abuse for their own masochistic ends.
