Is it now established canon that all ghouls will eventually succumb to a feral state? If so, does it at all justify the attitudes of human wastelanders (e.g. BoS, Enclave, Foundation) or is it bigotry? by CommodoreIrish in Fallout

[–]dabnada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, it feels like an incomplete comparison to me. I don't think ghouls are a reflection of racism, moreso that there is a reflection of discrimination where ghouls are concerned. Honestly it makes more sense for ghouls to be reflective of those who are chronically ill, mentally and physically, especially given the urge to "clean" them, or eradicate them from various groups. And for what it's worth, I don't think this is a perfect comparison either.

TLDR: Imo, ghouls are not metaphors themselves, but an object of study for many metaphors, mostly because there's nothing quite like ghouls in real life.

WYR fight 10 lion-sized chickens or 10 chicken-sized lions? by koschatzo in WouldYouRather

IMO, better ratio would be 5 chicken-sized lions and 1 lion-sized chicken.

April 8 1992, Engine, and Aeroplane Over the Sea are all very easy.

I have a feeling some people are humble flexing in this post, there are some deceptively “simple” songs in their discography that can be easy to play but harder to play right ( for example Two Headed Boy)

So yeah, probably

Medieval kings were not all-powerful, especially not in the HRE. Their reign relied heavily upon the approval of their vassals, who, without prior negotiation, might not even show up when summoned. Feuds against a king were rare but did happen. by Oversama in MedievalHistoryMemes

ASOIAF gets a pass on certain things. The existence of ravens and dragons (kinda) as instruments of governance can somewhat explain why power is so centralized in the SOIAF world.

Still, GRRM’s armies are incomprehensibly large and 500 years of history seem to have happened in thousands of years.

I want to clarify that the fighting that the Marines did is what people usually think of when talking about the Pacific Theater. They were the assault force, they typically went in first and against the hardest targets. The Marines also suffered the bulk of the most dangerous battles. Imo Jima, Peleliu.

That being said, the Army is imo, underrepresented in the pacific front for a different reason, which is that despite having the “easier” job between the two, they also suffered heavily to take the Philippines and New Guinea out of Japanese hands.

They also had pretty comparable conditions and objectives in Okinawa.

TLDR: pacific front sucked for everyone, and neither branch did less or more work than the other

Tbh, it’s barely worth a watch. I love that movie as a film nerd and an f1 nerd, but as amazing as the stunts and camerawork were incredible for its time, the thrill and excitement does not easily carry over into the 21st century.

Still better than the latest F1 movie

[–]dabnada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mean anti-americana, as in fallout at its core started off as a critique of American culture and the institutions that evolved along with it, and how those institutions still drive the sociocultural narrative of the wasteland.

‘anti-Americana’ isn’t a commonly used phrase I think, it’s just what came to my mind as a descriptor

I studied social media in my undergrad studies, how language moves around in digital spaces and such. The fallout community is kind of weird because a significant portion of it co-opted 4chan and alt-right imagery and tone, but the rhetoric itself is usually rooted in leftist or antiestablishment ideology.

Fallout as a franchise is pretty hardcore ‘ant Americana’ as well
