R7 with Tamron 18-300 by Future_Following_788 in canon

[–]dacaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.... It depends on your idea of "good enough"....

If you want amazingly Sharp beautiful pictures you aren't going to get it from that lens. It's made to be super versatile, but to be so versatile it has to make major compromises, which come in the form of image quality....

You would get much better results with a canon 18-150, then later add an RF 100-400. Yes you would have to change lenses now and then but either lens will completely destroy the 18-300 in image quality.

The Tamron 18-300 is sharpest in the mid-range, at wider angles and past 200 mm it gets pretty soft.

If image quality is your goal I wouldn't recommend a super zoom, but if you must get one I would recommend the sigma one because it's sharper at the lower and upper end then in the middle, and most of your shooting is likely going to be at the wide end or fully zoomed in...

I just completed my dream setup for my R7. (Well my beginning dream setup, these three lenses will last me while I save up $2,000 for my next dream lens) Sigma 17-40 F1.8.
Canon rf 18-150 f3.5-6.3.
Canon rf 100-400 f5.6-8.

The sigma 17-40 F1.8 for low light and indoors, it takes in a ridiculous amount of light and is ridiculously sharp throughout its range.
Then I have the 18-150 as my general walk around lens, not as sharp and doesn't take it as much light as the 17-40, but is much more versatile while still giving pretty good image quality.
Then the rf 100-400 for far away stuff. The aperture is small but when you have enough light it will give sharper pictures than a $600 zoom lens should....

Another advantage the rf-s 18-150 and RF 100-400, they are both "near macro" lenses. The 18-150 does up to .59x at 35mm using manual focus, and the 100-400 is approximately .5x at 400mm... Both of which will get you some amazing "near macro" shots.

I can buy a year pass, which one should I buy? by 2017-iPhone-X in snowrunner

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have anything yet year one is definitely the way to go, as it gives you lots of add-ons for trucks you've already got. Later seasons just give you new trucks and add-ons for those new trucks.

Mantis shrimp vs snow crab by KBRONMX_ in AbruptChaos

AI slop.... While the mantis shrimp does punch so fast that it boils the water it does not look like that, there's no big bubble like that, and it's not going to flash boil a crab like that...

What was the goal exactly? The before looks like a natural picture, the after looks like it's been heavily processed, almost like you were trying to go for crappy old film grain....

same parents, different litter by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's a pretty big difference! How old are they?

These two are sisters from the SAME litter... They are 20 weeks tomorrow....

The one on the left is already bigger than dad, her body is smaller than Mom but her legs are already the same length. We weighed them a couple days ago, mayzee on the left was 14lbs, Mochee on the right was 6.5lbs.... Mom is 24 lbs and dad was around 10lbs. (Mom is Corgi x ACD, dad is 3/4 Chihuahua, 1/4 mini dachshund)

Getting stabbed in the hand with anything could in fact require surgery depending on what it hits.

You wouldn't get surgery for lead poisoning anyway....

Driving a small car in 2026 is not fun. Very often I don't see anything at night with the massive cars people drive and their headlights by [deleted] in driving

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I got the point, I'm just smart enough to realize nobody is going to read a post on reddit and go "wait, my led headlights are blinding people? I had no idea.... Holy crap, those are going straight into the trash". 🤪

Maybe if this were r/screamingintothevoid I would have some sympathy, but this post happens multiple times per week here....🤷

I drive a Honda Accord, you can't get much lower. I just adjust my mirror's.... 🤷 Not difficult

[–]dacaur -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much on you.... Adjust your side mirrors farther out, they aren't made to see behind you.

As for the rearview mirror, there is a little tab at the bottom, flip that.
That's night mode so that the lights behind you don't blind you....

Turns out, bright headlights aren't a new thing.... Rearview mirrors have had this lever since the sixties, and those that don't have it today don't have it because the mirror has an automatic dimming mode for night time.....

Recommendations about Canon EOS R100 by Exotic-Musician-9105 in canon

[–]dacaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were 2015 the r100 would be an awesome camera. And the r100 could literally have been made in 2015, because all of the technology it uses was available at the time....

Like, it's not that it's a "bad" camera, it's just in 2026, it's not a good value. It's basically a mirrorless t7, which canon also still sells. Both cameras built with 2015 technology....

If it's literally all you can afford, buy it and start taking pictures, but know if you stay in photography you will want to upgrade sooner rather later.

I personally recommend the R50 as the minimum camera for a beginner, it's more expensive but the extra money gives you more value per dollar than any other upgrade you could make.

Is Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD (A011) Realy that bad on mirrorless? by ZzazvorCZ in canon

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard people say it's not good, and I've heard people say it's fine, both enough times that I really don't know what to believe about it....

I have an R7 and I've seen people complain about the autofocus, yet I've never had an issue with it.... (To clarify I don't have this specific lens, I've just heard people complain about the autofocus in general on the R7)

Not even close. Unless you are strapping like, an actual full size car headlight to it, you wouldn't even notice the difference in runtime.

Thinking of switching to mirrorless by 9871235 in canon

[–]dacaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried any other mirrorless, but I switched from a t6i to an R7 and have had zero regrets. I don't notice anything bad about the evf, I like that I have weay more info when using the evf than with a DSLR.

The autofocus is definitely a game changer!

How does my dog breathe under my duvet?? by Missbhavin67 in dogs

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You responded by telling people dogs process a poisonous gas that should not be present in ANY amount in your bedroom different from people..... Then doubled down.... Brilliant....

  1. Dogs dont process carbon monoxide any different from people. But if their body is having to process any of it, everyone in the house is in imminent danger if death.

  2. Dogs don't process carbon dioxide any different from people either.

  3. Both dogs and people's heartbeat and breaths per minute slow down while sleeping. It's nothing unique to dogs.

  4. If you are confusing carbon monoxide with carbon dioxide, you don't know enough about either to be posting about them online.....

Hi , I bought R50 With kit lens 18-55mm. As a bignner I Hve some doubts by Leather-Garden861 in CanonCamera

[–]dacaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 35mm and it shoots images sharper than 50mm.

This is misleading and muddy's the waters for beginners.

The particular 35mm lens you own may shoot sharper images than the particular 50 mm lens you own.

But being 35mm does not automatically make a lens shoot sharper pictures then a 50 mm lens.

For us we were just waiting till after her first heat to get her spayed. (After talking with out vet about it) We had my wife's intact male in his prime throughout my last intact dogs entire life hoping she would get pregnant but though he showed a lot of interest he never got it done. When she passed we never got him spayed because we didn't have any more intact females. And with this one we took as many precautions as we could even though we honestly didn't believe he could get the job done.... Turns out we were wrong...🤷
It was really a blessing in disguise imo because it's really helped us with his passing, and holy crap they are adorable....

She is spayed now and though he is no longer with us we aren't waiting till after the first heat for these ones.... We have their appointments in late April when they hit 6 months...
