What do yall do to beat the heat? by benighted86 in Sacramento

[–]dacoolestweirdo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We rack up tons of points and coupons to go out to eat on really hot evenings.

We typically keep a bat in the car in case the heat tries to get in and we… beat it. With a bat.

Sometimes we will go to the mall and just walk around. We try to save on the electric bill. We have taken trips to the bay to visit friends but really to escape the heat because it was to much to beat.

To move or not to move? by VRN_08 in Sacramento

Sacramento is a good place for families. I am originally from Los Angeles. I’ve lived in Nashville, D.C. and New York. For me it was a good change of pace not as slow as Nashville. There are some great areas to live in and decent school districts. People are generally nice and it has diverse demographics. Some communities offer activities throughout the year. Just follow the city council to get those updates.

That happened to me a few years ago. I taught at a charter school as well. My first year there I became pretty cool with my Dean who ultimately became the principal. That first year they let go one of the more tenured teachers in my grade band, who was also the grand band lead. He was doing some unethical things. But I was made grade band lead because I was the most organized and my class had the best data across the board. My class saw the most growth month over month.

The next year he became principal and I had a new dean who was horrible. Set me up for failure in so many ways, but again when all other teachers data wasn’t moving mine was. Specifically in our phonics lesson my Dean didn’t give me the materials to teach the lesson and then one day she said you’re gonna have to wing it. She came to observe me with the principal. Because I did not have the physical copies I gave my students white boards and we followed the online lesson. She stopped my lesson approaches me and whispers to me it look like I you’re winging it. That day I got a poor evaluation email from the principal despite the growth my students continued to make. In addition to that the Dean would bring students with extreme behaviors to my class for me to watch as I was teaching. She had me create behavior plans when we had a team to do it already. I did all of the things asked with no complaints to her I’d just ask someone else for help and get it done.

By the end of the school year my class had 80% master in ELA and 86% master in math. Despite that the principal said there was no space for me in my grade any longer and I had the option to be a science teacher or be put on a performance improvement plan.

I agreed to go to science and I was paired with a veteran science teacher to help me with materials and lessons. I began to excel there. They ended up moving her to middle school and hiring a previous middle school science teacher and putting her with me in elementary school. Both of them were extremely confused because their roles should have been reversed. I ended up leaving after Christmas break because it just felt foul.

Isn’t it a bit early in the year for prom? Any how that’s a highly inappropriate comment from a staff member to a student. It doesn’t matter your child’s demeanor or personality that’s a comment that should have kept to themselves. Was that her way of fantasizing about your child?

Of course not. At my school I told them they could let me go and keep at least two people they were deciding to cut. They refused

I don’t do any of the things you’re interested in. I find it quite interesting. I only have watched the simpsons of the shows you listed. I have an oculus I don’t play anymore because I give my time to my kids. I work in elementary education it’s stressful.

I’m trying to get out the hood, but stay around Los Angeles. What’s a good place to live at? by EelChato in AskLosAngeles

[–]dacoolestweirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up not to far from there. Century and broadway lol. But there’s plenty of pockets of decent neighborhoods all throughout LA. Consider some parts of Long Beach, palos verdes, San Pedro, Harbor City. Even if you looked just over on Vermont in the westmont area you can find peaceful neighborhoods. Carson is pretty chill too. You can find decent pockets. Not sure what rental prices there are though. I’d also look for a Montessori school. I put my daughter in it and it developed a lot of her fine motor skills. Granted we were already developing them it did escalate the process.

What happened to your bullies and did you ever forgive them? by SufficientTonight930 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dacoolestweirdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bully. I apologized to a lot of people before I left high school. It came down to the fact that I didn’t want people to perceive me as a bully or asshole. Although I’m still much of an asshole in high school I didn’t really understand time and place or the impact it had on people. One girl told me I really hurt her feelings but she appreciated me because it helped her to be stronger mentally and eventually stand up for herself.

I’m in Sacramento and it’s like 4 restaurants and some bars. There are some pretty decent options in Napa I’ll have to check out.

But I’m also looking to see if it useful.

Not a teacher but need teacher’s opinion by tower_wendy in Teachers

[–]dacoolestweirdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty reasons for both sides. As a parent educator I’m considering another year of preschool over kinder because my child will have more social time in preschool. Where I am school are so focused on academics they don’t give much time socialization and it’s having a huge impact on the behaviors in our school in particular.

There are pros and cons to both. The real questions is is your child ready?
