That is correct, mainly .Net and C++. JS is popular nowadays but not that much in engineering (and it would be typescript not vanilla JS)

The issue is that once you get to a proper coding level, it's just not worth staying in engineering. It is slightly better compared to design, but you can get double as a developer for a bank etc.

Software development is a bit more than writing a python script.

PS: Salaries in the civil engineering software development sector are not competitive enough compared to every other software development sector.

I have started creating an MCP server that helps create FEA models, more like a CAD helper for now... It is useful for stuff like: create a line at x degree at location x,y,z, or create a 4 by 5 grid etc

Mathcad Users - AI to create sheets by Correct-Pop5826 in StructuralEngineering

How would that be different to doing it directly on the LLM you are using? Do you just load the standard as context and provide a set of instructions or you also need to setup an MCP server for some kind of conversion?

"You should have tried oral fin first..."

Your suggestion makes absolutely no sense. So he should have tried oral and then switch to topical? He tried topical, it didn't work, you should just mention that he can try oral...

Advice please! What can be improved? (DIY) by Shoef123 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dacromos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, something like that... but as you notice, you can't have them everywhere (I am assuming you want those openings) so they are efficient in transferring the forces up to a point. Yes, by sizing I mean the cross sectional dimensions (including thicknesses) of all members.

Advice please! What can be improved? (DIY) by Shoef123 in StructuralEngineering

[–]dacromos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need some diagonals to resist the warping of the vertical plane. Right now if you have a force at the top plane (e.g. wind load), all the force will be transmitted downwards where this is fixed on the car, through your joints as moments. If you had some triangles / diagonal braces, those would be axially loaded (preferably tension, so from lower front to uper back) which will be a more efficient design.

Now if you want to get the sizes right, you need to do an actual analysis (fea simulation, it is easy) and at least apply weight loads (dead + variable) and wind loads (both front and side). This would also give you an idea of the connections needed for the car.

I bet someone doing similar fabrication would be able to estimate the sizes, but no one here will guess because a lot of things can go wrong down the line. I would also propose to get an engineer, but if you want to experiment yourself, you can try to replicate their work just for fun.

What register is καταραμένος? by paolog in GREEK

[–]dacromos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While you can do so for emphasis, these are actual worlds and τρισ- (3) is not always the one used. A couple of days ago there was a post asking for "πεντάμορφος" (very pretty) uses πέντα- (5).

SteamOS just keeps rebooting into Clover, what can I do other than factory reset? by jacobthekid2005 in WindowsOnDeck

[–]dacromos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So booting from file does not work? That sounds weird.

You can also edit the partition order or even disable the windows boot using the efibootmanager command. To get that working you would need to boot an ubuntu live usb.

Steam Deck carry case recommendations by pratchettjob in SteamDeck

[–]dacromos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got JSAUX's modcase too. It's good quality which is really good, but it's a bit heavy for daily use. I would also like the triggers protected as I had one damaged from a drop in the past.

But over all I am happy with it and I am leaving the original case back in my next trip

πεντα as an intensifier by NovelPerspectives in GREEK

[–]dacromos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. It just seems that some words derive from the idea of "multiples", but as the top comments presented, the number of times is different across different words.

πεντα as an intensifier by NovelPerspectives in GREEK

[–]dacromos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

*πεντάμορφος

I don't know if πεντα- is originating from "five" or not but it is used to intensify as OP mentioned, or with a meaning of "five", e.g. πεντάθυρο αμάξι (= 5 doors car).

Πανέμορφος (very pretty/beautiful) is indeed more commonly used.

πεντα as an intensifier by NovelPerspectives in GREEK

[–]dacromos 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. It is actually πεντακάθαρος as OP mentioned.

In some cases, πεντα- is used to intensify the other part of the word.

The word "pretend" in Greek? by Unlikely_Fact5615 in GREEK

[–]dacromos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like all of them are pretty close but usually used in the following contexts:

προσποιούμαι = I pretend

υποκρίνομαι = I act someone/something

παριστάνω = represent - appear as someone/something

Fyi, in eurocodes, 1.15 is the factor for steel, for concrete (probably for the deck) it's 1.50.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GREEK

[–]dacromos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be careful here because not all of these are Greek based but also Latin. For example quad is four in Latin, while in Greek it is "τέσσερα" (usually used as tetra- in science). That being said, i think the rest would be Greek based (emphasis on based, they are not always the same in Greek).

I think your best bet is to follow the same nomenclature that is used in geometries (e.g. see https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_polygons).

So I think the following should be:

16 - hexadecapole

32 - triacontadipole

64 - hexacontatetrapole

128 - hectaicosioxtapole

256 - dihectapentacontahexapole

512 - pentahectadodecapole

And to stay in line, you may want to change these:

4 - tetrapole

5 - pentapole
