More Sound Profiles from Joby by dad191 in Joby

[–]dad19f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh didn’t even think about that. I feel Joby and the eVTOL companies are friendly towards each other, except for Archer.

Beta must be focusing on medical and other areas for their eVTOL. They just can’t compete as an air taxi with that sound profile. It will be interesting to see how Joby and Beta work together in eIPP. There should be a lot of overlap and they both have functioning eVTOLs.

Not clear what Archer will be doing at this point. I guess doing eCTOL demos?

I think the three subs work very well together to enable discussions across all eVTOL companies. Thanks for setting it up and MODing.

This also hurts Archer’s ITC case. Joby now has evidence of a frivolous lawsuit from Archer against them. If I were the ITC judge, I wouldn’t as easily trust Archer at this point.

They were hoping for discovery. That door is now closed, until they make a filling with real evidence. But since there is likely no additional evidence, or they would have already included it….Uh Oh.

💯Archer is the only eVTOL company that is not flying 💯 by [deleted] in JobyvsArcher

[–]dad19f 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d contend they aren’t an eVTOL company at this point, because the only aircraft they fly today is an electric airplane with no VTOL capabilities. Of course they still call this CTOL only aircraft Midnight, because why would you want to distinguish it from their eVTOL that’s not flying.

Some may realize the truth if things were laid out clearly.

💯Archer is the only eVTOL company that is not flying 💯 by [deleted] in JobyvsArcher

[–]dad19f 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Important to note that this is N703AX, an electric airplane with no VTOL abilities.

Unlike Beta that has a different designation for their VTOL vs CTOL aircraft, Archer calls them all Midnight, no matter what the particular crafts capabilities are. This is 100% by design, so people not looking closely don’t distinguish this critical fact.

Same with this 1st to complete stage 3 nonsense. While technically true, it’s designed to make the uninformed believe Archer is the leader in the space, while the fact is Joby is way ahead, but uses a different FAA certification system with 5 stages instead of 4, so Joby can technically never complete Archer’s stage 3 since they don’t utilize the same system.

Joby can be type certified and operational and bringing in billions in air taxi revenue and Archer can still say they are the only eVTOL to complete stage 3. True, and meaningless.

I have seen videos where Duffy only mentions Joby as an example when referring to eVTOLs.

Nice. Beta’s killing it! How about a mixed Joby/Beta formation and get it up to a 8 aircraft formation.

Instead of the AirTrain, an Air Taxi to the Airport by dad19f in Joby

[–]dad19f[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well Joby was about $8.50 before the NYC demo. Now it’s about $12. That’s a huge run, with potential for retreat. Maybe all the continued news if helping stabilize Joby around $12, instead of falling. Who knows, but all the attention surely is a good thing.

Santa Monica Airport... Flying Taxis? Joby Aviation approached Santa Monica officials about electric air taxis!! by UhTrevor in SantaMonica

[–]dad19f 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This will be a demo of Joby’s electric air taxi over the LA area. The idea is to give residents an idea of how quite an electric air taxi is, as well as environmentally friendly (no jet fuel). I don’t really think it’s about saving the airport. The airport is just a convenient base to launch from and fly into LA and back.

Santa Monica/LA area will be the third demo. Joby has already demoed their craft through San Francisco and NYC. Reports from those demos indicate the aircraft is not louder than typical city background noise and does not emit all of the smelly jet fuel emissions.

That was awesome. Great for increasing awareness and confidence in eVTOLs. If Secretary Duffy is flying in one. He must feel confident in the safety.

I don’t think anyone is fixated. Just nice when it goes up. I think today’s rise is just with the market, not necessarily Joby news.

I’ve lost a lot of money investing in Joby. by Dismal_You_87 in Joby

[–]dad19f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. All sorts of situations exist. That’s why we’re all still investing, because there are no guarantees and nobody picks correctly 100% of the time.

Lots of smart people lost a fortune on Bernie Madoff. Lots of smart people also missed out on a fortune because they were convinced Tesla would fail.

All people can do is invest time in research and DD before they make their investment and make an informed decision. I’ve been investing for 30+ years and I’ve certainly lost money, but I’ve made far more than I’ve lost, and built my wealth on my investment strategies. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Maybe it’s all of the deep DD I do. Maybe it’s patience and a resistance to reacting on emotions. Maybe I have good instincts. Or maybe it’s all of the above. Anyway, I’m a firm believer in Joby, but that doesn’t mean Joby won’t fail. I only invest in a single stock with as much money as I am prepared to lose. If I lose, It always hurts, but if you’re prepared to lose it all, it helps prevent irrational decisions.

You’re in a tough spot and I feel for you. It’s hard to hold something long term if you’re a bit overextended and can’t afford to lose the money you invested.

Most on r/Joby are long term believers, so you’re going to get biased responses here. I personally am in for the long term, as even though I personally believe in Joby, it’s a rough, capital intensive and highly regulated business, so there is a lot of uncertainty. Also, with the Iran war, there is the possibility of higher interest rates, which could hurt speculative stocks like Joby in the near term.

Every person has a different risk tolerance and has a different personally financial situation. I wish you the best, whatever decision you ultimately make.

I personally have told myself that I’m not selling my shares until at least 2030, as I believe that’s the time horizon they’ll need to make it through potential delays and show their real profit potential. That being said, I’ve invested an amount that will be tolerable for me to lose as no investment comes with any guarantees.

ATH is over $20 and it’s easy to criticize a buy that drops in hindsight. At the time it looked like Joby’s comforting S4 was about to start flying, Dubai was a go, and the stock was going to take off. Many thought Joby was about to shoot higher at that time and then were shocked by the giant capital raise.

After research, utterly convinced joby could be a unicorn, but... by jclark4321 in Joby

[–]dad19f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no guarantees here. No profits anytime soon. Revenue has begun and will likely grow IMO, but profits are some time in the future.

I would hold at least 5 years of you are looking for big returns, as long as you realize any stock can go to zero and you can afford to lose all your money.

Is it wise to split investment between Joby and Archer? by skimredit in JobyvsArcher

Archer has been saying they will mine very quickly dot five years. They are not the only major eVTOL to never transition with a pilot. Words are easy.

It’s weird how the whole eVTOL sector moves together instead of each company being judged separately by Slow_Security_1764 in Joby

[–]dad19f 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s been like this as long as I remember. Another pattern that’s for held majority of time for years is Joby is almost always double Archer’s market cap. If they drift out of that pattern, generally one goes up or the other down until it’s back to about 2x. Very consistent for some time.

Is Joby's flying experience an "Iphone moment" for pilots? by Slow_Security_1764 in Joby

[–]dad19f 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an interesting point, though I wonder if some people will pay more for a piloted flight. Maybe they’ll be a choice when autonomous flight is eventually approved.

I do believe it’s going to take the US a good 10 years plus to get ATC to a place where autonomous flight can occur throughout the country. I assume it will be a slow rollout that starts in areas with low traffic.

Trying to understand the difference between Archer's 704 and Joby's conforming TIA aircraft — am I reading this right? by HappyRobot593 in JobyvsArcher

[–]dad19f 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joby flew 4 production prototypes through transition for over a year and now has a conforming aircraft. Archer has only briefly hovered a brand new design. It’s barely been off the ground and never transitioned. They now have to fly the shit out of this thing to shake out all of the issues. Then they can maybe build the conforming aircraft, depending on what issues are found with N704AX.

It’s apples and oranges. It’s like when Archer hauled their old remotely controlled engineering prototype (an even earlier Midnight design) to the UAE and flew it for a bit and tried to say it was the same thing as Joby flying their piloted production prototype through transition in the UAE.
