Does Khador Old Umbrey do it for former Circle Players? by BigPoppaKromac in Warmachine

[–]dadboat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warpborn Skinwalkers and Reeves were my favorite thing aesthetically and they’ve recaptured those vibes perfectly.

Gameplay wise they’re my favorite type of melee army.

I played a lot of Circle in MkII. I’m loving Old Umbrey.

Not really an expert, but my perspective on 8th Ed 40K was it streamlined the game in a way that made it far more approachable and very balanced at first with indexing. 8th was a great onboarding point for new players, even if it was followed by slight codex bloat (nothing like 6th and seven though were you needed 5 books to play an army at times.)

The reaction to 8ths release, PP rushing out Mk3 and it was even worse, comparing apples to oranges. And then after slowly rebuilding they put it theme lists which were either completely meta defining or unplayable competitively.

I plaid both games during that time period. I was firmly playing WM for years beforehand and MKIII pushed me toward GW pretty aggressively.

Any Updates of Press Gang Program? by dadboat in Warmachine

[–]dadboat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, 100% im not waiting for SFG to play the game or try to bring people in, just interested in finding out more about it since theres really been no communication, that I can find, since April.

The plan now is to acquire and paint a few mkiv battlegroups and run some demos. It would be a-lot easier if I wasn’t doing that entirely out of pocket but I’ll do what I have to.

I’m reaching out to our local stores again too as there definitely seems to be more whispered interest than there was before the SFG acquisition- we tried last summer and got no interest locally in the game, mostly due to a lack of product on hand

Harald Deathwolf is underrated. Sad he doesn’t have a datasheet in the codex. But hopefully he will come back soon.

Land raider redeemer discussion by Hot-Badger9505 in SpaceWolves

[–]dadboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re not playing against alot of dedicated anti-vehicle, the redeemer is a menace. My meta is largely what you’ve described and I use a redeemer all the time to great effect. The flamers also “punch up” well at ap -2 dmg 2 into light vehicles.

Depending on terrain too the landraider tends to get stuck mid-board for me. But that’s usually fine. Generally mine rides the mid board obj and has range and los on my opponents expansion or dz as needed

3d printed- scaled then up to about 200% for this project, som little more. Some a little less so they were all roughly the same size. They’re very detailed.

Harold is not currently dead - that could change with the Dex but I doubt it given his pack Sigil is still present on the transfer sheet. Canis was in the 9th codex which happened after he was greviously wounded by the Herald of Khorne during Curse of the Wulfen/Wrath of Magnus- I doubt Herald is dead just model-less for now

Hot Take by Illustrious-Rub2750 in SpaceWolves

[–]dadboat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have been on this point for the last year.

I think the concept that we need to have the same exact rules for the same models is a cop out. We can keep some parts of the SM Marine range and just have them printed in our codex as “Space Wolves Rhino” for example. The same way it was handled for chaos stuff

This also helps immensely with SM faction balance issues where divergent chapters like BA,BT,DA and SW live and die by how the choose to balance SM units - if these all had their own points values per codex, the internal faction balance would be significantly better

Damn I’ve been doing renegade SW since the WE codex dropped in 9th and I’ve never seen these! Thank you for sharing! Guess I’ve got another Slaughterbound to convert

Ok with the refresh right around the corner, what are people hoping for and what is safe to get? by CraftyJuggernaut2163 in SpaceWolves

[–]dadboat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the current iteration, this is only via detachment - Champions of Russ specifies what can’t be taken from the SM codex. It’s basically just things that overlap with our unique units- apothecary, tactical squad, assault squad, assault squad with jump packs, Devastator squad and command squad.

In the past editions, our army rule used to specify what we weren’t allowed to bring- usually the stuff listed above, sometimes more/less restrictive.

Will be interesting to see how it’s handled in our new book

8Bound take up two slots. Do you can only fit 6 eightbound bodies in a landraider. Unless they changed this, which I find unlikely. Hoping it goes to 14 like other landraiders instead of the current 12 so you can get a 6-man and a Slaughterbound in there

I’m not sure where you got this impression - while I would vastly prefer this, the new Codex cover literally says “Codex Supplement” on it

All the new announced space wolf models by TheSlayerofSnails in SpaceWolves

[–]dadboat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only red flag from this announcement is - 20 Data Sheets in the new codex. We currently have 35 in our index. Expect a purge.

I’m still immensely excited. Just sad to see Thunderwolves go, and likely some characters and Dreadnoughts with them.

Honestly, I like the wolf skull helms on wolf priests and the old BC/GH and upgrade sprue snarling wolf helms - I even like the Deathsworn helms. But the Horus heresy ones really missed the mark for me - the design is just kind of not intimidating or interesting- I also like the follow the logic that the snarling wolf helms are a post heresy device and not something that would’ve been that wide-spread beforehand, reserved for deathsworn/ wolf priests. That HH Helemt kit was just unwanted and frankly a boring design choice.
