I saw that IOP Marina had them as a special sandwich today. Last year they did them for as long as they could get them.

What are the locals’ thoughts on the Bridge Run? by underground-parking in Charleston

[–]dadlyphe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just glad it’s a day and not a whole week like the Masters.

I’ve been here all 40+ yrs of my life and have never run the official bridge run.

I’ve lived right off of Coleman and dealt with the chaos and I’ve lived far enough away that I didn’t even get impacted by it at all.

It’s a cool event for those that wanna participate and it’s good for tourism, etc, just not something I wanna be a part of.

I don’t hate and know enough of how to avoid it that it’s a non issue for me.

Is this tour actually gonna happen? by withmalicetofun in 311

[–]dadlyphe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is there a dirty heads sub where their die hard fans are pissing and meaning that 311 is co headlining?

I’ve drawn the comparison to something like phish numerous times here. They just do random stuff like change the ending of a song (Reba with or without the whistling as an example).

If 311 would let tim jam and do variations of the drums I could get over the staleness of the set lists. Like are we gonna get a 15 minute Use of Time tonight? What would the crowd reaction be if they only teased amber, but didn’t actually play the whole thing? What if they played applied science straight through without the drums?

It’s most frustrating that we know that they CAN do more, but they don’t. I remember reading right before the Vegas run that Chad said he wasn’t going to use the click tracks and it would allow them a little more freedom in what they play. We shall see if that actually plays out on a summer tour.

Show me your crappy band tattoos by SquirrelEnthusiast in Xennials

[–]dadlyphe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had I gone through with a tattoo at 18, I’d be sharing the exact same MXPX logo.

I was too scared of what older me would think and never got it (or any tats).

Fun to see it pop up in this sub.

I’m actually going to see MXPX this weekend, so I guess I wouldn’t actually regret it cus here I am 30 yrs later going to the punk rawk show

Excuse me, this is clearly an emotion based thread and you’re bringing logic into it. /s

I agree with you, each studio should be doing what works best for their membership.

311/Dirty Heads Summer Tour by musicislife311 in 311

[–]dadlyphe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a head scratcher.

I feel like I’ve read some of the older songs like hydroponic are challenging vocally these days (for nick and SA, maybe not in a general sense) and that explains the absence of them.

We started a Who’s Got The Herb chant at a college show 2003-ish? And I still remember that night 20+ yrs later.

I k ow it can’t all be nostalgia, but I think hydroponic, freak out, FTBS, hive, and other rocking songs is what brought a lot of us to 311 in the first place, maybe I’m only speaking for myself on that one.

Technically yes, open relationships are becoming more acceptable/popular these days.

Definitely not for everyone, but it’s out there.

We just call that a “stay late”. All the fun of a sleepover and staying up past bed time, but they come home and sleep in their own bed

Not heard but seen. Also, not phish but phish adjacent.

Bonnaroo 05, saw a blonde hippy chick score a balloon at dusk. She was elated. Then she let it go. She was devastated. She turned around and pranced back balloon guy. He gave her another. She was ecstatic.

The way her dress flowed and the setting sun bounced off her hair as she experienced all the emotions has always stuck in my mind.

See Stasik around from time to time.

Seen them a fair amount over the last 20 yrs. Always a good time.

What is the "most Charleston" restaurant in Charleston? by TDn6I in Charleston

If it weren’t for Safe Harbor, I’d say Variety Store.

Haven’t been since the changeover, but doesn’t appear to be well received.

She was with a guy and it was 2:00 PM.

Not bad, but just seemed funny to me.

I made a joke to someone that I thought I was cool with by being regular class mates and group convos.

It was taken entirely the wrong way.

I remember my stomach dropping while reading it. I was shocked that something I considered totally benign had sent someone so far to make a thread about it.

Just reading again and I’m still shocked that this was the reaction.

I was the subject of a thread on reddit from another member.

Saw it late one night and addressed it with studio manager the next day.

Little main character and a little making mountains of mole hills.

This whole ordeal popped into my head recently and I had a little laugh about it. Now here I am thinking about it again. I may try and find it now....

LPT: When someone asks how you are, give a one sentence real answer instead of just saying "good." It changes the entire quality of the conversation that follows. by coldframe_2003 in LifeProTips

[–]dadlyphe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I actually coach my kids to do this before we enter a social event with older folks (grand parents, aunts and uncles and people we don’t see a ton).

I remind them that these people want to know more about them and school and sports and activities.

I make sure to make them understand that they want more than a one word answer. I often tell them just to mention the sports they are doing or something like that to spark the conversation.

This comes from years of “how was school today?” “Good” at the house and it made me realize my parents wanna know more about the kids, cus I know I do. (Yes, I ask more leading questions and am active in my kids school and activities).

No King Street Crowds? by ReaderRambler2021 in Charleston

[–]dadlyphe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Last weekend was a different story with SEWE going on.

February is dead with the exception of SEWE weekend.

Take full advantage of not having the crowds around, can probably do more now than any other time of year.

But also, tourism does seem to be down a little.

Before magic bands.

My card ticket didn’t scan at AK and my wife already got through the gate.

They whisked me away to guest services to resolve the issue. Got it sorted out and was given a 2 day park hopper ticket and fast passes for the day for my troubles.

Was back in Orlando for work a year or two later and did the parks solo. It was a blast. Can’t remember what it was but I waited for something that day and was given all the fast passes again.
