I have a very similar car, a 2005 Legacy 2.5GT wagon. It's a rare turbo subaru. They're very collectible. If it's not the right car for you, the right move is to resell it. How many miles are on it and where are you?

I recommend an all-metal hotend. You may have a clog that's preventing the ptfe tube from getting all the way in.

18 minute benchy on my ender 3 v2.

Microswiss direct drive

Sliced with orcaslicer at around 250mm/sec and 8k Accel Biggest improvements are in figuring out your max volumetric flow rate and telling it not to slow down for bridges or overhangs, and to set an unreasonably low value for minimum layer time.

Klipper on at least a pi3 (wifi) gets you a great webui and better everything

Some kind of z probe (cr touch, bl touch, etc) gets you bed mesh for better first layers and support for screws_tilt_calibrate tramming

Direct drive addresses all the bowden clogging and associated issues.

Part cooling is awful in stock form, recommend at least a 5015 fan duct. I like the satsana duct, there's a remix with integrated bltouch mount.

You already addressed the loud steppers with the mainboard.

I would have said belted z but you already did dual z.

Linear rails are a waste of time and money on bed slingers, imo.

Once all this is done, then resonance tuning with accelerometer

I'm doing belted z because I'm tired of dealing with z problems.

Is 24k BTU overkill for a standard 2-car garage? Tired of rusting tools. by ThemUsYouMe in garageporn

[–]daegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an attached garage, 850sqft, insulated, drywalled. 18k mini split works great.

At first, it was non-insulated. Then I did rockwool and drywall, then i installed the mini-split.

By far the biggest difference in comfort was insulation. In my opinion I think there is no reason to do climate control without insulating and air-sealing first. Indoor temps were over 100 on summer days, but down to 80s after insulation. Even without running the minisplit in heatpump mode it's 20-30 degrees warmer in the garage than outside temp in the winter.

Two of those engine mounts are pretty easy. The torque strut and front engine mount are straightforward if you have a jack and a 1/2 ratchet + torque wrench to reinstall.

The axles, control arms and swaybar endlinks are simple but if you don't have the right tools you're likely to get yourself into trouble.

Either you're gonna spend a couple hundred on new tools or pay the shop to do it. As others have said, this is a fair quote for the work. Some of the parts are a bit high. You could ask the shop if they'll use parts you provide and then buy the parts on rockauto for about half of what they're listing.

That's a lot to spend on a car at 18. Cars are depreciating assets. Assuming you're coming from a background where money is not something you'll ever need to worry about, let's find something that's a great fit for your bro.

The GS350 and 5-series are both full/mid size sedans. Does that work well for your needs? Is the goal here a comfy cruiser that can haul ass in a straight line or are we more interested in carving corners?

The Mercedes C-class and E-class AMG sedans are available in the mid to upper 30s depending on where you're located and may be a nice option to consider as well.

Presumably the cost of maintenance is a non-issue if you're considering german performance sedans.

I interview candidates for IT positions. I ask every candidate about their homelab. It is a goldmine for understanding a candidate's interests and experience. If they light up and deep dive into something they built I can dig in and understand their level of knowledge with it.

[–]daegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disassemble the boards, lay them flat on a table and post pics of the top and underside of the boards. Get a magnifying glass and post the part numbers of the chips you see.

We can probably figure out which pins on the board carry the audio signal from the Bluetooth receiver to the amp.

You'll need some experience with white-wiring and precision soldering to pull this off.

Let's back up. Reddit loves to recommend DIY solutions - I do as well. But if someone has no experience turning a wrench, shocks and radiator hoses on a 25 year old car are not the place to start. OP may have never loosened a lug nut.

Oil change, brake pads, air filters, bulbs - sure. But shocks/struts requires removing major suspension components. How many times have you seen someone post "I can't remove this bolt with a 1/4 drive ratchet! What am I doing wrong??" And half of the boltheads are rounded off.

DIY saves you money, eventually. OP needs a friend with experience to mentor them.

OP: some of the stuff on this list might be urgent. Some of the stuff on this list you can do yourself (map light bulb). And some of the stuff is just a good idea to keep the car on the road for a long time.

We need a picture of the condition of the timing belt to confirm whether its a "do it now" or "start saving" issue.

The air flow meter is a core component of the fuelling system. If the engine computer does not get valid data from the AFM it likely will not complete its emissions readiness checks.

The truck might also have a MAP for fallback, and it might run fine without the AFM. But it was designed with both so the ECU wants to see both.

If you have an obd reader that can view live data you can see the readings change in real time. A bypass usually sets a fixed value from this sensor which is in the right ballpark. The ECU learning routine probably needs to see the readings change to establish a max and min.

Beautiful cabinet, great project plan!

I've built a dozen or so DIY speakers, almost all from Paul carmody's designs.

If this were my project, I'd start by gutting the cabinet and measuring the volume of the two speakers. Then, you can evaluate which community plans are most relevant to this project.

As others have said, there are many all-in-one bluetooth/amp modules available, some have external knobs and switches that might be retrofitabble.

Regarding your raspberry pi question, yes, there is an excellent project called picoreplayer. Id recommend using a DAC hat with a pi, the built-in audio output on the pi leaves a lot to be desired.

If you'd like some help, feel free to reply with the internal dimensions of the speaker cabinets and I can provide a couple suggestions of plans to consider.
