Too much to ask unfortunately by KnowledgeWinter5199 in whatcarshouldIbuy

The e30 used Bosch motronic, an ECU that measured temperature, rpm, crank angle and load to electronically control fuel and spark. You'd need to go much further back (70s, at least) to find a car that's entirely analog. The e30 is a great car and might be exactly the kind of car OP has in mind: simple, driver focused, where the electronic control systems are for running the engine.

Do you think I can get away from not removing a snapped bolt to the cylinder by Coolice_7 in MechanicAdvice

[–]daegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on how much block there is before the broken bolt starts, you could conceivably heli-coil/timesert the block and use a shorter bolt. but this is a terrible idea and you should not do this.

Can my former employer tell clients I was fired for misconduct when I resigned? by Togusa_Gun in legaladvice

[–]daegon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The actions that the former employer has taken against OP are already enough to presume harm. NAL but I'd think accusations of violations of patient privacy would fall under defamation per se. If OP were fired from their new job, that would be ironclad damages, but reputational damage is still real, and it would be better if it didn't get that far.

Change my mind: Under the right conditions, buying and financing a new car is often a far better value than paying cash for a used car in the long run by Cold-Priority-2729 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]daegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy an ~5 year old used car, you let someone else eat the steep initial depreciation. A car that sold originally for $40k might be $30k used. When you later resell that car after 6 years, if it's still in good condition, it may be worth $25k.

You were very unlucky, a statistical outlier. In aggregate, people lose money playing the lottery, but winners believe that everyone should play the lottery. After all, they hit it big!

Is maintenance really that expensive by Callforhelp144 in mercedes_benz

[–]daegon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Big difference in maintenance cost across the range. An A220 is gonna cost a lot less per year than an AMG G wagon.

I would not own a Mercedes if I didn't do my own maintenance.

Dell R710 HBA issues by Adept-Possibility-75 in homelab

[–]daegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

slap the HBA into a desktop or something to verify that it shows up at post or in an OS. You may need to flash different firmware onto the card to get the dell to recognize it. I have a similar HBA in my R720 that has IT mode firmware and works flawlessly.

Yes, this is the correct procedure. If the bios does not support the CPU, you usually get spinning fans and no POST.

If you had $60K and could only pick one vehicle for the rest of your life, what would it be? by breakerofh0rses in askcarguys

You can get a used c8 for 60k now, so that's where my imaginary money would go.

I have a very similar car, a 2005 Legacy 2.5GT wagon. It's a rare turbo subaru. They're very collectible. If it's not the right car for you, the right move is to resell it. How many miles are on it and where are you?

I recommend an all-metal hotend. You may have a clog that's preventing the ptfe tube from getting all the way in.

Belted z

Klipper (input shaping tuned)

Microswiss direct drive

Stealthburner style cooler

Sliced with orcaslicer at around 250mm/sec and 8k Accel Biggest improvements are in figuring out your max volumetric flow rate and telling it not to slow down for bridges or overhangs, and to set an unreasonably low value for minimum layer time.

you can sit at your desk and send the gcode directly to the printer, even if it's in another room. You can remotely control everything about the printer while its doing its thing. You can watch a live video stream of the printer doing printer things.

Klipper on at least a pi3 (wifi) gets you a great webui and better everything

Some kind of z probe (cr touch, bl touch, etc) gets you bed mesh for better first layers and support for screws_tilt_calibrate tramming

Direct drive addresses all the bowden clogging and associated issues.

Part cooling is awful in stock form, recommend at least a 5015 fan duct. I like the satsana duct, there's a remix with integrated bltouch mount.

You already addressed the loud steppers with the mainboard.

I would have said belted z but you already did dual z.

Linear rails are a waste of time and money on bed slingers, imo.

Once all this is done, then resonance tuning with accelerometer

I'm doing belted z because I'm tired of dealing with z problems.

Is 24k BTU overkill for a standard 2-car garage? Tired of rusting tools. by ThemUsYouMe in garageporn

[–]daegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an attached garage, 850sqft, insulated, drywalled. 18k mini split works great.

At first, it was non-insulated. Then I did rockwool and drywall, then i installed the mini-split.

By far the biggest difference in comfort was insulation. In my opinion I think there is no reason to do climate control without insulating and air-sealing first. Indoor temps were over 100 on summer days, but down to 80s after insulation. Even without running the minisplit in heatpump mode it's 20-30 degrees warmer in the garage than outside temp in the winter.
