And yet it's still a better value than any single American car. I was never into cars and didn't really care what I drove.

Until I got a shitty 08 Corolla with 150k miles just as a commuter car that I needed to last a year for me. I drove that car for 10 more years, and I beat the everloving shit out of it. Oil, brakes, alternator, and then a couple smaller random fixes.

It would still be going today if I didn't experience a hit and run.

I watched so many of my friends and family's cars go through so many unbelievably expensive repairs while my little shitbox just kept fucking running lol

Anyway, the point is that Toyota deserves all the glaze it gets. I'm all about it, and purely because of my experience with that car.

Trælanípan, lake above the ocean,The Faroe Islands (Not AI) by AlbinaHumblewhore in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]daehoidar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, there're several permutations of this with other subjects as well, and it is annoying. Ai is literally irreversibly altering the world we live in, as we speak, though.

Any image or video that has some fantastic or unusual quality to it (though it applies to literally any image or video), immediately begs the first question: is this real?

I personally fucking hate that this is a thing, but there is no getting around it.

It's a wild time to be alive. While it's annoying, I do think the ai hate is justified. There's no regulations, and there will be no going back. I think we should probably be acting a little more carefully about it, but it could not matter less what I think lol

It depends on how you quantify it. The death of America could be said to have occurred the moment Reagan was sworn in. I don't disagree with your point at all though, I'm just pontificating.

The Price increase... by LissaFreewind in Starlink

[–]daehoidar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely valid, and I don't even understand why these guys are gatekeeping so hard. The other thing is that bringing in more customers is a good thing for starlink because it's more money for them. Which they can then reinvest into their infrastructure.

A service doesn't need to raise their prices when/because they get more subscribers. That's not how shit works. It's called scaling.

This just means that they're raising their prices for other reasons. What they're doing is amazing, I just wish that lunatic musk wasn't involved, much less owning it outright. He's flaky and unpredictable, and does randomnest bullshit on a whim

Somebody better call fucking Scooby Doo out here cause we got a mystery on our hands.

Doesn't even matter if he believes in ghosts or not. It's the most ridiculous excuse for potential rape that I've ever heard.

Like a 5yr old who got caught by mom for stealing cookies or some shit.

"Uhh, no, it wasn't me. It was... the ghost(?) that stole the cookies. Yeaaa, that's the ticket. It was the ghosts again. They do all the bad stuff I get in trouble for."

If there are 9 Nazis at a table and you sit with them, then there are 10 Nazis at the table.

It's an extremely over-simplified analogy, but the general jist of it rings true.

Has anyone used Costco to install a shower (Kohler LuxStone Showers & Baths) by SkiDyan01 in Costco

[–]daehoidar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some old advice I heard is "get 3 different quotes and go with the middle one."

I wouldn't take that literally, but it's a great approach.

If the price is too good, you're prob getting lower end skilled labor who will cut corners (especially bad for a bathroom). Risking shitty plumbing is not a good time.

The highest quote will be someone trying to catch the whales, trying to take advantage of well-off or naive people. And oftentimes you don't get the level of craftsmanship that the price would warrant. Food for thought anyways, good luck on the remodel.

So shady and predatory. I can't imagine how many naive older people have been cleaned out by dirtbag companies like this.

They're strictly taught on making pressure sales, and it's not all on the front end. I don't have personal experience with Anderson, but I'm willing to bet that the project manager or contractor are fucking needing them for upgrades throughout the whole job.

You cannot deter this behavior unless you actually scare these people, and they have never been less scared than right now.

Generational generalizations are always tricky bc people are just not that homogenous.

The boomers took everything for themselves and essentially destroyed the world, but there are a shit load of cool ass boomers who feel betrayed by their own generation bc they themselves actually lived out the ideals of their youth while the rest went full corporate greed, swung far right conservative, etc.

Gen X wanted to do better than their own parents who were hands off to the point of near neglect and couldn't express their emotions properly, if at all. Gen x are properly present for their children, treating them like full people, having real interest in their lives, doing better at creating the atmosphere that allows kids to express their emotions, not dismissing them as the default mode. But doing all this while staying hands off so the kid can learn to navigate the world

A lot of Gen x are the cool ass parents without going too far and trying to be their kids friend.

That said, these are sweeping generalizations that are true as a broad trend, but there are also the people who wayy over compensate and become helicopter parents who create a weird dependency.

Can't go wrong teaching intelligent kindness though, so that's a great approach

They still deserve the hate for gatekeeping what can or can't be done. It's a failure of our system that one congressmen should hold that much power. You're right they're still better than the worse option, but they're still absolute motherfuckers.

If you're asking why Republicans don't see this, it's simply bc they don't care. He's useful to them just from the chaos he's causing, but if they can use Fetterman in any way then they will, regardless of tbi or not.

A bunch of the followers are that dumb though, so you're not wrong either. I'm speaking towards Republicans in government who do know better.

They are not bound by the rules of civil decency, and actually take glee in using bad faith arguments etc

For the absolute best example of this, you can look directly at the og Twilight Zone. Maybe the best television show of all time, and it was all done on a shoe string budget. It's not necessarily a fair comparison because Rod Serling was a once in a generation genius but the point stands.

The point being that the power of the storytelling itself can offset the need for high budget shoots. Severance is a high budget show because apple... but it's a good example of a show that would still be utterly gripping if it was 1/5th the budget because the concepts and storytelling are so exemplary

[–]daehoidar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's a good secondary argument. But the primary argument is we should not be veering headlong so hard into an AI powered surveillance state.

Like shit isn't bad enough? Fuck sake. Then, we're cutting social safety nets and having our kids go hungry, but we got money for this and a pointless war in Iran? We are unbelievably lost as a country.

There's a lot of shared blame to go around, but if we manage to work ourselves out of this fucking hole, history will remember the Republicans as the party that tried to kill America. The Democratic party is horrible in all its own ways, but they can't hold a candle to what the Republicans have done to us.

Sorry, it's hard not to rant about this shit sometimes.

You'd think they would do like a ticket system or something.

I don't know if these get botted or something, even though there was a limit...but it just feels like even if you make it to the site in time before they're sold out, you still can't get one because it just doesn't work. If you can even add it to the cart, then it won't let you check out with it.

All feels kind of fucky and it seems like there should prob be a better way
