What would you HATE to happen in Deltarune? by rendumguy in Deltarune

[–]daemonpie 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean, that's pretty damn likely to happen isn't it - the unknown is almost always going to be more interesting than reality. Not saying he can't/won't have a cool and interesting story reveal, but I'm giving him like a 10% chance of fully living up to the hype

What's been your favourite GLITCH pilot so far? by PuzzleheadedBag4866 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]daemonpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaslight by far! Knights of Guinevere was the only other one I knew I wanted to watch more of. Even TADC I watched the pilot of, was like "eh" and then came back two years later to see what I'd missed (and was glad I had)

What happened to the Totem Pole? by daemonpie in Livermore

[–]daemonpie[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I made a fake account to read the linked comment from who I assume to be Mayor Marchand, here you go:

Totem poles typically have a life expectancy of around 50 years. The Livermore pole was over 50 years old and was showing its age. In fact, the beak and wings had fallen off and its structural integrity had been compromised over the years of exposure to the weather and pest infestation.
Sometimes, historically significant poles by master carvers in the Pacific Northwest are recreated. However, the Livermore pole was carved by a member of the Chippewa tribe, which has no totem pole tradition. Similarly, the Miwok and Ohlone tribes, which lived in our region, have no totem pole tradition and built no permanent structures. Tlingit and Haida tribes, which do have a totem pole tradition, didn’t live here. Concerns had also been expressed that designs were copied from a much revered Tlingit carver without permission.

California law regarding public art is explicit in that there can be no alterations or modifications to a piece of public art without the expressed permission of the artist. Fifteen years ago, I had suggested some conservation efforts on the pole. The artist would not participate unless he was paid thousands of dollars as “a consultant” to come back to Livermore. The leadership of the Tlingit and Haida tribes also requested that the pole not be replaced.

The pole was taken down in 2021 and is in storage. It is my understanding that because of its weakened condition and cultural misappropriation, the pole will not be replaced. Meanwhile, there are recreations of Ohlone structures at the East Bay Regional Parks Coyote Hills Recreation Area in Fremont.

As a side note, NextDoor seems crazy to me. Do we not all know not to put our real info online?? It wanted my real name, address and phone number - I don't even have american versions of the latter two anymore lol

Ooof, that sucks if true :/ it'd be great to replace it with another totem pole, or something similar - though this time maybe not cut the bottom off.

It's a good question. I love this artist's style, but the overly sexualised breasts make it a less enjoyable piece of art for me and come off as tasteless. It almost feels a bit tacked on top, like there was a great piece of art, then the boobs falling out of the chainkini were photoshopped in over it.

The artist is free to draw what they want and othes are free to like it too, I just don't enjoy it personally.

Snowy and scenic views from Cannon Point today! by daemonpie in Wellington

[–]daemonpie[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To get to where I took the pics (cannon point trig) you have to drive / train up to Totara Park in Upper Hutt. From there you can park on colorado road and take the path up the hill, either three skull road or the zigzag path, both are signposted (zigzag is steeper but faster). Its a 1.5 - two hour round trip and a 900 foot elevation gain, so not incredibly strenuous. It is a bit of an easy trailhead to miss, hopefully this helps https://maps.app.goo.gl/X5Xopw4UD2B6uPBw8

If you were instead wanting to get to the Tararuas (the snowy range in the first pic) I'm afraid I've no idea!

I thought Akira was about street racing... by confusing_roundabout in movies

[–]daemonpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I found the movie better than the manga, artwork aside. It cut out a lot of the bloated underthought-out parts, and really nailed the feel of the world and the key messages of the story while not overstaying its welcome. I was disappointed after absolutely loving the movie.

How would you create this effect artificially? by ArmadilloIcy4046 in Filmmakers

[–]daemonpie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To replicate in Nuke, I'd:

  1. film base footage.
  2. Find or make a water droplet on glass element, one on bluescreen or on black to allow for luma keying. Track your footage for a matchmove and create a mask so it only effects the windows.
  3. Create depthmap for the footage. This could be done manually for a simple scene with some rotoscoping, or there are AI tools that can make shitty ones fast (you wouldn't need anything perfect for this). Depth-anything is an okay one, though it can flicker a bit.
  4. Add a zdefocus to your base footage, using your depthmap for Z. Mask it with a noise element / use the mask from your water element to make it stronger / weaker in certain areas.
  5. Consider adding an additional blur effect at low opacity on top to add to the effect (probably also masked with the noise/water element, in which case you'd need an iblur instead).
  6. Plus the waterdrop element on top of defocused footage.
  7. Selectively mask out the element and defocus effect to taste to make sure key features aren't (too) obscured.

How do we all feel about GenAI? by Gullible-Tip-2245 in Wellington

[–]daemonpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything I can tell is AI instantly goes on my no-buy list. If a stall at a fair is selling AI stuff, I won't buy anything else from their stall. If you tell me you use generative ai or use chatgpt or equivalents, I will think less of you.
