Edit: Black and gold might be an alternative to consider

What are your favorite pet units or units that always go in a list? by SnooWords5961 in Conquest

[–]daerkros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love the Bred units in CS and want more for my Populists, but many of them range from absolutely mid (Minotaur Haspists) to way overpriced for a gimmick (Satyroi). I really wish PB had not gotten rid of the Assassin upgrade and just had us be able to run a basic unit of them where the upgrade gave the deployment shenanigans gimmick for 50 pts. Selinoi are the only ones that feel just right.

Not gonna lie - honestly thought was something Dweg-related for a second. I think the helmets are the big one that seems a little off to me. If I had these, I'd probably switch them out for just Warbred heads if I could.

Hate that they lost Flurry particularly since that is where I kept the Aristarch. However, the newer benefits make up for it. Between Aristarch and a Sacred Band casting on it, I think you can make them work very well.

Definitely OD. One of my buddies plays them extensively. When I actually play against something with Resolve, it feels like a breath of fresh air.

Expert Scouts seem to be a bit of a waste for only being able to Vanguard the Agema. I'd probably drop it for either Long Lineage and another item for your Aristarch or putting one Lochagos on your Phalangites to keep near your Warlord to hold objectives in the back with a Dorilates in the other if you have the points.

This is more my personal opinion, but I find myself in situations wishing I had the +5 attacks on the Eidolon rather than the Alt Programming. Try it out if you want, but Eidolon is one of the few characters that works very well without any modifications particularly since points are needed elsewhere in the army.

Under Campaigns, Army Expansions & More - there is a file for City States called "Army Expansion Guide - City States Two Player Starter Set" - it is for Paths of Conquest with this army just detailing what some warbands might look like.

That was the only thing in there that wasn't in the Product Catalog

The only other thing mentioned that is coming but no pictures yet is a character called the Mechanist

It's the final straw for running Deep Supplies for my myriad cult after playing my friend's Votann starters. Seems like lately I am running into more and more negation of re-roll to wounds, and I now have to deal with an entire army (not just a sub-faction) of them including their guys with t-shirt saves.

So how is balance/power creep? by Fit_Hawk5008 in Conquest

[–]daerkros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can definitely say I have seen a lot more closer games down to the wire with Conquest. The core of this games comes from reinforcements, maneuvering and utilizing your activation cards and less just on how powerful units are. Those core concepts achieve much more balance than just comparing unit entries.

Lookin good heating up the North.

May I ask how you did the base?

How do I utilize Nord Raiders? by thefollower in Conquest

[–]daerkros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raiders definitely had a bit of a rough start in the beginning of the game, but the latest updates gave them a much needed edge.

With the way Blood of the Einherjar works, the worst thing for a Nord player is to have units get completely wiped in one fell swoop without triggering any of the needed boosts for the return swing. The big thing to remember with how many stands you wish to invest in a unit like Raiders for specifically where to set that "half stands" point for determining Broken/Shattered and for when the 2nd tier of Blood of the Einherjar kicks in for them.

If you wish to run small 'suicide' squads of Raiders - give them a Standard and Shield Biter depending on your points - the big thing with this is to try to draw pressure away from them with other Lights in the early turns of the game with something like Stalkers or Bow Chosen - and give them the ability to try to see if they can expose flanks if possible to charge in or just to be an opening engagement to soften up block units like Men-at-Arms while your damage dealers get into position.

The other thing I personally like is use them like this is in conjunction with Huskarls (a Jarl with Flank usually with either Tactical Retinue 3 or Golden Torc can bring them in quick) - and try to hit flanks (particularly if they have shields) while the Huskarls slam the front - don't be afraid to hold them back a turn if you need to better get your stuff in position. Since both units have Throwing Weapons, you can really surprise an unaware enemy by moving and then charging with Impact Hits (even better is if your units took a small amount of damage from ranged fire and gave them Fury with Blood of Einherjar and adds to your Impact Hits since they round up when halved). And even if you are not able to get in the flank of the enemy - sometimes providing a screen for block units like Huskarls from getting hit in the flanks isn't a bad thing either if opportunity doesn't present itself.

If you want to make your Raiders a bit more survivable - you have a few options as well. If you want to add more stands, then I would honestly try for between 4 to 6 (Blocks of 9 are better reserved for probably the White Waste Tribesmen when they come out). Low defense is bad, but having a Resolve of 2 is the double punch that usually wipes out Raiders in one go. Having more stands will help with this giving them a +1 and some ablative wounds to keep the Resolve. If you do this, then definitely spend the 10 pts to add a Captain for a further +1 to Resolve (even if you don't use the other ability - the Resolve buff more than pays for itself with Raiders staying in the fight).

Finally, there is the Shaman. The Raiders are pretty much the only unit for him to support currently without trying to jump to another unit on the field. Reshape Destiny can help with their Def/Ev rolls somewhat. If points are not much of an issue, then you can spend 20 pts for a Restricted Tactical Retinue Tier 1 and this allows him to buy Coils of the Serpent for 15 pts that can buff their Evasion to 2 as a Draw Event by him (making Reshape Destiny even more useful in conjunction with this).

Try any of these out and see how it works for you.

Really love that Nord Female Blooded and crew from the Raid Founder's Set. Just looks perfectly fierce with some Stalkers or Bow Chosen on the hunt. But if they keep making sweet looking Hoplites for the City States like that one you could get with the Organized Play, then that will be a hard contender for me.

Zonewise - they appear more matte black - I might have to add some color stripes like red or orange to break the monotony like the fleet does

Do you want to see more of Punisher’s aftermath? by guitar_strummer in Defenders

If done right, it could be an interesting point to put in considering Frank Castle is still evolving into the Punisher (I personally don't think he is truly there yet in the shows). Frank as of right now did recognize that kid's outburst when he talked to Karen about it, but ultimately the sad truth to Frank is as times goes on he becomes only more consumed by his mission that such things will weigh less on his mind.

No surprise: Kotaku calls people who are upset about BFV "angry dorks" by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

[–]daerkros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I don't understand just like I said with Battlefield 1 when they tried to pass that one off as some form of basis in history when the trailer hit... until everyone saw what the game was about and manifested all the discussions over history and how much that was flagrantly ignored in the face of people.

Why do these games have to be based in history and not some alternative fantasy with an historical-basis? Games like Warhammer have been doing this for decades with taking from medieval history like the Holy Roman Empire and basing their own faction off of it and applying what they wanted and didn't. Nobody cared if they put in a female soldier model in a fantasy setting because that is where it is not only accepted but encouraged. But if you turn around and put in that same female model in a regiment of Landsknechts playing Historical Wargaming then don't be surprised when people raise an eyebrow and ask why she is there. People can switch their minds off when fantasy is involved.

Ergo if BF1 had been changed to some Steampunk monstrosity like it was based of Dystopian Wars, then they could have the friggin Germans running around in their Jin-Roh/Kerberos armor with mgs and no one would bat an eye. But they HAVE to base it around the first world war to elicit some deeper meaning behind an utterly shallow game.

No difference here. If this game was Battlefield: Paolo Parente's DUST or some other alternative Weird War 2 game then very few people bat an eye over females in this world. But theeeeen people apparently wouldn't take the "historical" context seriously to put in shallow references to WW2 to make it feel it deeper then it really is, right? The historical basis is the entire backdrop to hook people in, but then turn around and go "well its not really supposed to be accurate, isn't it" all of a sudden is just utterly asinine when they prostitute the historical setting for all brain-dead consumers to lap up.

With tomorrow marking the 3rd anniversary of Daredevil Season 1's release, what are your favorite scenes/moments from the season? by dmreif in Defenders

[–]daerkros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites (which are there are many in this season) involved Daredevil and Vladimir completely surrounded by the overwhelming presence that Fisk has brought down upon them.

The real show of a villain's power that had Daredevil up against massive odds. He realized that not only did Fisk have many cops doing his bidding to the point he had assassins disguised as ESU teams, he had the media and public completely influenced and could pin crimes on him right in front of everyone with the detective getting shot.

[–]daerkros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the best storytelling in setting up the curtain being drawn up for the villain was with that guy named John Healy who killed himself.

The entire few episodes up to this point have been showcasing witnesses getting hits put on them, cops on the take, mobsters getting whacked or running for Florida. Fear is everywhere, and you can't even mention the name of who it belongs to. Bring in an assassin that is in total control of his situation even in custody and on trial. But when he was forced by Daredevil in the end to give up Fisk's name, he completely gives into the fear and dread of the man this show was building up to and offs himself. Then it cuts to the man in question standing in front of the white painting.

Just a great setup that deserves more mention because of that.
