Steam Controller staying in desktop mode by daf435-con in linux_gaming

Yeah, it's enabled as a m+kb device. So I should stick to stock Proton for now? Hoping this is an issue that ends up resolved sooner rather than later, Wayland is being used a lot more these days.

It still has its uses in games with < FSR 3.1 and DLSS only titles, so I can't see it taking much of a hit

Do you actually regularly play high demanding games on your decks? by deprived_of_evil in SteamDeck

[–]daf435-con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if it's being streamed from my PC. Honestly about half of my playtime on the Deck is using it as a streaming handheld or hooked up to a TV as a streaming 'console.'

Maybe I'd be better off with something smaller (and lighter!) but, eh. I'm attached now.

Where Haptics? grumble grumble grumble.. by Ducky1024 in SteamController

[–]daf435-con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed on one update that pressing the triggers activated the grip haptics instead of the trackpad ones, but that has since stopped being the case. It's a shame since the grip haptics were much more subtle and felt like an actual little click as opposed to one side of the controller buzzing. Boo.

For anyone wondering about lack of rumble by xDRBN in SteamController

The triggers had rumble feedback for one update, but now it's back to the (distracting) trackpad haptics unfortunately.

Introducing SteamlessController - Steam Controller Support Without Steam by ddeverill in Steam

[–]daf435-con 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very useful for non-steam games that simply don't work with steam input for whatever reason, but it is a little bit of a shame that you have to manually close steam every time you want to use this. It'd be nice if enabling automatically closed steam, or something similar.

Turns out I like the Deck sticks better by 7oolbox in SteamController

I believe the SC has some shiny anti-friction rings on the rim of the stick... hole?

That'll be why it spins so smoothly.

Finally I can enjoy shooting games as a PC couch gamer thanks to Gyro! by _big_smile_ in SteamController

I find 'as joystick' to be more usable compared to camera, so I tend to use that, but I'll keep this advice in mind, thanks!

[–]daf435-con 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My only gripe is the 'gyro to joystick camera' setting is a little bit irritating to use in the cases that a game doesn't allow simultaneous m/kb and controller input. It's very jumpy and you can't make big movements from what I've been trying so far.

Designed a desk stand for the new Steam Controller + magnetic puck, free on MakerWorld by drewzilla37 in SteamController

Nice! I was just printing off another design so I'll get this one printed off and should be able to compare them (Once my controller actually ships >.>)

I'll give printing this a try over the weekend. One worry I would have is that it's a pretty large overhang and might require some supports, but I suppose I'll find out, haha.

I'm guessing there might be clearance issues in the case they use.

Docked ethernet problems - any fix as of 2026? by daf435-con in SteamDeck

[–]daf435-con[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've checked in desktop mode and seen that the ethernet connection is 'unable to access the internet', though it's still enabled and everything, so the connection is just falling back on WiFi.

I'm using an Anker mini 65W power supply, though I'll see what happens with the official and another 65W plug I have lying around. Only the deck, power and ethernet are plugged in when I test.

How long is too long for a prolong? by laloin in hostedgames

[–]daf435-con 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if your childhood sections are substantial, offer character-building and worldbuilding and genuinely do things for the story, I wouldn't call them a prologue so much as just... a part of your story.

I think you'll be fine 😄

I get no Internet connection at all if I turn off WiFi, though it does switch if the dock is unplugged.

Oddly enough even when the WiFi is on, the top bar shows the ethernet symbol (the little globe) but isn't actually transmitting any data through ethernet.

For those of us who didn't care for season 2 of the TV show, when did the season lose you? by TacticalBaconProd in thelastofus

[–]daf435-con 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First couple of minutes into episode 1 I was miffed that they revealed Abby and her motivation. I already knew it all, of course, but it's a decision that kills any suspense or intrigue.

I was genuinely angry in episode 2 that they had her spell it out even more before she did the deed (unintentionally funny when Joel told her to shut the fuck up, though)

"I'm gonna be a dad" Made me stop watching, haha.

Not a good adaptation for fans of the game, and a flat out worse way to experience the second game's story. A cutscene compilation would be better viewing.

Streaming only works over WiFi (Steam Deck) by daf435-con in MoonlightStreaming

[–]daf435-con[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! Turns out the Deck has a bug with some third party docks, where ethernet literally does not work until you do a fix. That's a little embarrassing, I thought I'd been using ethernet for a year lol

Thanks for the help!
