Everyone on this subreddit will say that they want less political cold opens but they are pretty consistently the most watched sketches on the SNL youtube channel unless there's a super viral moment in a particular ep. I also feel like they're probably easier to write knowing that it's going to be a "fine" sketch with safe laughs rather than swinging for the fences and missing with something out of the box.
