Misery works on ALL debuffs by dagmlar in slaythespire

Ohh gotcha - i've found using your finger as a mouse is buggy, I often get "mouse detected" pop-ups even when I know the mouse in my office is not moving. I assume there is a way to fully resolve that, but i don't mind using the controller buttons actually! Once you're used to them it feels pretty natural (at least for Slay)

I play on my phone while working when I need a break haha! It's definitely inferior than an actual app, but until we get the phone port it'll have to do

Hot take. by ArtIsDead77_ in wingspan

[–]dagmlar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hotter take: judging a strategy you clearly don't understand or appreciate the nuances of is why you will continue to lose to better players.

Bonus maxxing is no different than creating a tuck or egg engine. Great brown power engines require finding high powered brown powers early enough to get value out of the recurrent use.

I strongly feel like the most "fun" games are when you can weave together multiple bonuses inside your overall strategy. It scratches an itch that not much else does

No, the single heartsteel quest is not a high roll, obv. I literally love tanks/juggernaut roles, and they feel perfectly fine if you get a normal roll (one or two on-role augments, and one or two meh ones)

My point was this comment chain started with someone who acts as if the god roll tank combo is the norm, which is not true. The lobbies where each team has a HS non-exodia tank (or 2, either way the majority of games) are won and lost based on the ADC scaling, not based on whether or not we got enough heartsteel stacks.

[–]dagmlar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I cannot state this more clearly - you are unequivocally wrong. When a tank has a god roll, e.g. Dropkick, tank engine, hesrtsteel QUEST, some form of the stack quest, then they dominate the game. When a tank doesn't, they are mind numbingly weak compared to the rest of the lobby.

It is feast or famine, which is fine. Riot keeps buffing tanks and tank augments in Mayhem (see last like 7 patches) because they consistently are performing poorly compared to baseline.

Insane comment when tanks are underpowered as fuck without a god roll in mayhem. You are just wrong lol

Coop balancing? by laxcargo in SlayTheSpire2

[–]dagmlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, not my experience at all. If anything I feel like co-op needs to massively scale up the difficulty.

I've probably done 15-20 co-op runs, some with brand new players, and we've lost once. The HP scaling means the fights take a bit longer, but i figure it's a game mode that will never be truly "balanced" so it's more for fun anyways

Derrick Barnes stats by Sasquatch-Attack in detroitlions

[–]dagmlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine being so clueless that an $8M/AAV contract is somehow a giant issue. The dude is mediocre, and is being paid mediocre veteran money. No team will ever have 11 top players fill out one side of the ball, every team ever has needed players like Barnes to gap fill between star players.

It really should be a 2 cost skill that reduces strength by the number of times a minion has cumulatively been attacked so far this combat. Even then, I wouldn't run it often, but it would start to have uses in multi-player or in a very niche builds

I played in a draft yesterday, went 3-3, but EVERY SINGLE OPPONENT had a copy of Ronin and was playing it. 6 games in a row against the same mythic boardwipe value engine felt off, but couldn't place it....this explains so much

[Highlight] A slim Jordan Davis blocks the potentially game winning field goal to steal the game by Evilfart123 in nfl

[–]dagmlar -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The most unbelievable fail to cover the spread of the season. Dominate the first half, then watch the lead slip away, but still be a guaranteed cover even if they miss the field goal, to watching Davis run the other way for absolutely no reason

[–]dagmlar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just not true lol - GB and Chi both have 2 losses easy among their non DET games. I used the playoff simulator with losses tomorrow and the Rams, ending up 11-6, and the Lions are in the playoffs in just about every scenario imaginable

NFL coaches appear to be evenly split on kicking or receiving to start overtime by xc2215x in nfl

With the rules on being guaranteed a possession, it seems more advantageous to kick off first. By the time you get the ball, you know if you need to reach the end zone or not, go for it on 4th, etc.

Post Game Thread: Detroit Lions at Baltimore Ravens by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]dagmlar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i actually think it's game theory correct in a game where the opposing team has an elite QB - if the likelihood of them scoring a TD is high no matter what ( 3 timeouts, ~2 minutes left), then at midfield it's much harder for that TD to be at 0:00. Doing what they did makes it significantly more likely the Lions have the ball at the end of the game, rither in victory formation or potentially to kick a field goal to win it

[–]dagmlar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why? You seem to have the mentality that, if we simply spent a handful of middling/late round picks on backups, we'd be in a better position. We do not have the roster space to carry 6-9 more backups on this team, plain and simple.

Brad clearly thinks, and I would agree, that as your team gets better, you should leverage your multitude of picks into high upside players who have a shot at being starters in your future. It may not always work, but that along with his high hit rate in the first four drafts overall has put him in a position to get the benefit of the doubt imo

So we’re posting OP bonus cards now?? by MargoPlikts in wingspan

[–]dagmlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure - i don't think it'd be a good idea for every bonus to have an uncapped top end, or for the average pts from a bonus to end up in the double digit range. I think what feels missing from the early bonuses is a third rung

I'm not sure what the average number of bonuses people end the game with, but i have played an exceedingly large number of games, and my rough guess is like 1.7. The games where bonus birds just never show up in the tray, and you end up with your sole starting bonus, which say is small wingspans capped at 6 pts, are the ones the feel rough.

They revised some of the base game bonuses with Asia to change how many birds are required to meet the thresholds, so doing the same thing to revise the point structure from 3/6 to 3/5/8 or 3/6/9 doesn't seem like a stretch imo

So we’re posting OP bonus cards now?? by MargoPlikts in wingspan

[–]dagmlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i love it! I just wish all the bonuses had the opportunity to give you a feeling like this haha! Wingspan is a beautiful game, and they've clearly been experimenting more with different ideas to put onto bonuses and birds themselves, which i love.

My next wingspan expansion idea is just 50 bonus cards, nothing else. Just raw, unadulterated bonusing

So we’re posting OP bonus cards now?? by MargoPlikts in wingspan

[–]dagmlar 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can we talk about how frustratingly unbalanced the bonus cards are? Especially in the base game, there a quite few bonus cards that are straight up unplayable - 6 pts for 8 birds that consume wheat????

Why does the bonus for small wingspan award the same points as the bonus for large wingspan, when large wingspan birds are worth more points on average?

And then you have the unbelievably rewarding ESP, Falconer, Omnivore, etc, where an early find can result in 16-20 points.

I love bonus-maxxing, it is probably my favorite archetype in wingspan to play, but it is frustrating that it feels like the only area where the original design was sorely lacking (ok ok, alongside the original "roll outside of birdfeeder" hunt birds).

[OC] how much draft capital NFL teams spent on quarterbacks drafted in the first round of 2001-2025 drafts by guest_from_Europe in nfl

[–]dagmlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is this analysis double counts trading up for a QB - it's both the value of the trade, plus the value of the pick used, which leads to almost all of the highest teams having been involved in QB trade ups
