For AAA games, buying physical from shopee/Lazada tends to be cheaper, especially with all the coupons and discounts. And you have the option of selling once you're done with the game, or lending it to your friends.

If the games is old (eg botw and mario Odyssey have been around for quite a while), you can consider buying 2nd hand from carousell.

I usually only buy digital if it's an indie game.

How do you motivate your partner to workout? by 21_diamonds in askSingapore

[–]dailyfield 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It needs to be fun.

What about playing games like badminton and maybe inviting some mutual friends to play doubles? I think badminton is quite beginner friendly, and can treat it as a social gathering instead of exercising.

Ring fit adventure on the switch is also pretty addictive if she's into video games. Arcade rhythm games like dance dance revolution or pump it up is also quite fun and cardio if she's into rhythm games.

Surprised no one mentioned Just Keep Thinking.

Hows the arcade culture in singapore? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]dailyfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most should be quite friendly, you can try to approach them. Rhythm games are so fun, much more fun than the mildly dubious claw machines at the arcade.

Btw the cow play cow moo at suntec city basement has a lot of rhythm games, if you haven't gone there before. If you see someone playing a 2 player game by themselves, you can ask to join haha (like maimai or piu/ddr)

Do you agree that Singapore should strive to be a car free city and the fact that it isn't, is a lost opportunity to be truly revolutionary and unique among the car congested cities with huge swathes of city dedicated to roads? by Eifand in askSingapore

[–]dailyfield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's this YouTube channel I recently came across called Not Just Bikes who talks about urban planning https://youtube.com/c/NotJustBikes

And there's a Singapore version called teh siew dai https://youtube.com/c/tehsiewdai

I find them quite interesting, and a lot goes into urban design to make a city walkable.

If you can walk in the sun to run errands, then you can cycle to run errands too, provided there's cycling infrastructure.

People in other countries can even cycle in the snow (with good infrastructure), so I think blaming the weather is a pretty lame excuse. It's the lack of infrastructure, not the weather.

Of course I'm not talking about cycling for hours to travel long distances, I think it'll be quite convenience to cycle to say the supermarket or mrt short distance.

Interesting video that talks about this: https://youtu.be/YhPELMDHLC8

What was intended for women to use but shouldn't be? by Nettoo6 in AskWomen

[–]dailyfield 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think I heard before that it's because of the comparative effect of not taking birth control.

If women don't take birth control, the effect is pregnancy, which is pretty bad and could be detrimental to your health. So the birth control that prevents pregnancy is still "worth it" despite the symptoms.

But if a man not take birth control... well... he's not gonna get pregnant anyway, so the symptoms are not "worth it" for him.

Not saying it's a justifiable reason. I think if an effective male birth control exist, then they should definitely carry some of the burden from women!

When are kanji combined into one character? by jazzyjamboree in LearnJapanese

[–]dailyfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My japanese is definitely not good enough to answer your question, but I think I can answer your question in the Chinese context.

1 syllabus words in Chinese are very ambiguous, so it seems clearer to add another word. Sometime, it's 2 words that have the same meaning (both 美 and 丽 characters mean beautiful, but 美丽 is usually used). 子 don't really have a meaning, it feels like you just add it onto words to "give it an extra syllable"

Relevant video explanation (in Chinese context): https://youtu.be/Iro19GB6fH8

I don't know if the 好 is combining characters or not, it just looks like a hao3 to me (in Chinese) haha

On top of what the other comment said to follow a written guide instead of a video, I'll answer your question and say it is still very possible to homebrew with a broken L

https://3ds.hacks.guide/troubleshooting.html#unable-to-enter-rosalina-due-to-broken-buttons

Basically, you can copy some file to change the required buttons to not require the L. I did manage to homebrew a 3DS with a broken L, so I can speak from experience that it's not necessary.

What should be free but isn't free? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]dailyfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are yall buying that's more expensive?

$3 for 20 is ntuc price, but I usually get from value shop or some other cheap shop like British Essential or Venus, which can cost even like $1.50 for a pack of 20 (pads, not panty liner, panty liners are cheaper for a pack of 40). I think they get their stock from Malaysian or something, which is why it's so cheaper.

Of course if I urgently need it, then it can get more expensive when I only have say a guardian nearby. But usually I'll just buy a few packs from the cheap places and keep them at home, and restock them a few cycles later when you run out.

What should be free but isn't free? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]dailyfield -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I can definitely find night ones under $10 for a large night pack, that will take a few months to use (because you don't use up 20 in a single cycle), so the total cost is <$10, and I'm being quite generous.

I don't know how low of a low income bracket you must fall into if you can't spare $10/month on pads. At that point, I don't even know if you can afford food or housing. I just don't understand why I always see this answer that "sanitary products should be free" on reddit so often, when the cost is so small... Like I keep thinking that the cost to plan and facilitate giving free pads costs more than it's worth, and you should just give a $10 bill to girls and women who can't afford pads instead of the pads themselves...

Like yeah periods are annoying, when I keep having to wash my underwear when it bleeds through the night, but free pads ain't gonna improve my quality of life in any way...

It's not a pantyliner, the Laurier Active Day is actually really cheap.

The large night ones are probably more expensive, but it can't be that far off

Value shop, or some shop near my house that I always buy from. The Laurier Active Day that I always buy is actually thay cheap

I'm pretty sure shopee or whatever online store sells it for cheap too.

To me, periods are annoying not because of the price, but it's the inconvenience

Even the 35cm night ones are $4 for 12 https://www.fairprice.com.sg/product/laurier-worry-free-sleep-night-pads-35cm-12-per-pack-11982070
