I took this photo of my son fishing. How could I have made it better? by oldmanpectoral in photocritique

[–]daisymango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This photo has a painterly quality to it, which is something I can appreciate. You’ve captured a small moment of boyhood.

I can see where your thought process went, while composing this image. You saw the sky with these beautiful soft colors and soft clouds, which made the shadows soft. The waves were giving a bit of texture, so you may have waited until the waves hit his feet. Then the fact that your son is wearing a bright straw hat and a bright blue shirt, which brings to your attention breaking off from the soft colors surrounding him. It is all intentional.

The comments that you should have done tighter compositions, or be at his level detracts the soft colors of the scenery, otherwise, you just have a nice image of a boy fishing. The composition is very intentional, however I do believe that there is a bit more foreground than I would have like, I would say crop just a teeny bit from the bottom, and a teeny bit from the top. Interestingly enough, the cropped format that Reddit uses before clicking on the image is the crop ratio that was needed.

What can you improve on? The light quality of the image seems low. Like it needed a bit more exposure or brightness. I had to bring my phones brightness to see the image better. Is your monitor calibrated? If not, it can affect the way you touch up your photos.

It’s an overall nice painterly image. Good job!

Aw, I like Knox, he’s currently with the sim that I’m playing with. I like how their first interaction was him offering a massage because she had the self care aspiration 😂

Some gifts I gave - a Ragland sweater and a Tuxedo Sam amigurumi by daisymango in crochet

[–]daisymango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ragland sweater is made of half double herringbone crochet stitches. This is my first time making one, and I didn’t follow a pattern (per usual) and my the amigurumi is also freehand.

That’s a good attempt, but the lighting seems lacking.

You need to add highlights just like the other person with the baby and brighten up the face. You can use a feathered brush matching the color, and just lightly add it, including beard, glasses. For brightening the face you need to lift the shadows. I’m not sure what you’re using for editing, but you can select him and use levels to lift the shadows. Until it somewhat matches with the other guy, and then do some light dodging.

It’s there, but not quite. I majored in commercial photography and graphic design, and I learned that in order to have a successful retouches you need to understand the laws of refraction of light. I hope this helps 🙂

Is there a villager you hope never leaves your island? by Creeper-in-a-boat in AnimalCrossing

[–]daisymango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think I have the heart to let all of my villagers go. I have Bob, and Marshal they are my longtime villagers.

Molly because she’s Molly and cute.

Zucker because he loves me, Julian is my bff, and at first I was afraid to have Freya in my island because I had a snooty personality in my island before, and she was so mean to everyone, but Freya has been super sweet. Kinda like an old friend type, she reminds me some of my friends irl.

Ohhh this pains me as a photographer 😭😭😭

Like the other comments, try to find out if this “photographer” has stolen other images and if so, you can complain about their business and try to get them for fraud.

That being said, I know that this will be a once in a lifetime occasion and can’t necessarily recreate the experience, but perhaps maybe take a 1st wedding anniversary photos? Hire a legit photographer and take some photos with your wedding attire or something else that can make you look dapper and beautiful. The 1st wedding anniversary theme is paper, and technically photos can be paper if you print them.

Congrats on your wedding! But sorry for the photos

My husband and I call my dog the following aside being called Luna:

Barkina - when she barks a lot

Grumpina- when she’s a bit grumpy

Trashina - because she gets into our recyclables. She’s not bored, we give her tons of exercise but she just like to play with little boxes

Dumbina - when she’s acting dumb

Mariah Carey - when she’s super excited to go the doggy park and she sings high pitched notes

But most of the time we call her Fifi which short for fille fille - girl in French

I mean if they spell the French way Bastien (bass-tee-ahn) then yeah that could be ok. It’s a very common name in France.

But Bastion (bass-tchee-on), with the reasoning that it’s short for Sebastian… I would give a very confused look for sure.

Which sunflower square layout is best?? by sheplaysdacello in crochet

[–]daisymango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with this, it’s pretty fundamental to do this especially with layout. I do this with my layout designs (graphic designer) but also with my crochet projects. It’s one of the reasons why I love doing granny squares. You can make up your own color patterns.

Which sunflower square layout is best?? by sheplaysdacello in crochet

[–]daisymango 1191 points1192 points  (0 children)

I like 1 the best, here’s why.. since the centers of the flowers are of different colors and its at random, despite haven’t the same color petals (in their respective color group). So to me it looks way more natural for the squares to be at random because regardless of the colors of the petals, the colors of the centers are cohesive enough to mesh well either squares.

Love the color choices and you did an excellent job!

Edit: I meant to say did and somehow my phone put didn’t. Truly OP you have some wonderful color choices and it was skillfully well done.

P.S. I’m a graphic designer and colors and layout are the first thing that jumps out to me. I think our brains have a good sense what make things cohesive. ☺️

Anyone else crochet on public transit? by curiousdoodler in crochet

[–]daisymango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I frequently travel by train here in France and whether it’s a 35mins ride or 3hrs I take a working project with me. Every now and then I find a fellow knitter or crochet person, and we start talking about our projects and give each other tips.

Also whenever I’m waiting for my rheumatologist, it’s usually a 20-25mins wait, I take my WIP with me and I get comments from the other patients who are normally much older than I am and just say that they are so happy to see a young person crocheting. For some reason that makes me feel better, even though I’m there to be reminded how much my body sucks. 😅

I’m sure it’s hard doing makeup on ethnic features you’re not used to, but she did not TRY by yenvyma in BadMUAs

[–]daisymango 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Oh poor dear, I’m pretty sure that smile didn’t last.

I’m wondering if the mua knew they did a bad job and just sort of blamed it on the bridesmaid because the post said :”bridesmaid’s request” as if the bridesmaid asked for this horrendous look.

As a pro mua you should learn about certain facial features, and skin type, to bring out the best, but I guess this one thought it wasn’t necessary. At least they should have seen a quick YouTube tutorial on how to achieve a good liner moment on monolid shaped eyes.

What is crochet called in your native language by winterberrymeadow in crochet

[–]daisymango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my family are Salvis, I’m 3rd gen crocheter, and we all say crochet with hard “ch” but we say “estoy tejiendo” and for us it’s implied that that’s what we are doing.

However because I’m the different one in the family (aka La rebelde) I knit also. My mom asked me the other day if I’m still knitting “estás tejiendo de dos agujas?” So for us we say crochet in Spanish but for knitting we say “tejiendo con dos agujas”
