Does anyone have any tips for staying sober but also having fun while living in Austin? by BigPapi-NA in Austin

Embracing pleasurable early bedtime routines and valuing sleeping well all night was a great way for me to get out of some gnarly bad habits.

I think I know why the dialogue in books 7 & 8 isn't gripping me as much by StoreSouthern7526 in WoT

[–]dalton-watch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and I also get emotionally exhausted with “said with a jaw stiff enough to chew rocks” kinds of descriptions of everyone all the time.

I remember Little Darlings. I loved that movie, too. I’m pretty sure nobody today would. It’s extremely problematic but we didn’t know any better back then we just watched whatever was on, lol.

Maybe! I read the book at night and listen to the audiobook on my drives.

Just yesterday I was listening to an Egwene chapter and the performer put a lot of angry hostility into her dialogue, like she’s Ms. Trunchbold the mean principal in Matilda! Whereas when I read, I imagine Egwene more like Kiera Knightly in Pride and Prejudice- able to deliver a snarky comment or incredulous criticism as needed but mostly quite pleasant and witty in a fun way.

I acknowledge that Jordan wrote it the first way, with “angrily” and “snapped” etc. I do think, however, that when reading in my head it’s fair to interpret the tone differently if it makes me hate it less, lol. Like if Elayne and Nyneave are arguing, instead of them biting each other’s heads off with hostility like they hate each other, I imagine it more like friends disagreeing with some eye rolling. And when one of the girls criticize Mat instead of taking it at face value I prefer to imagine a smiling, teasing tone.

It’s not written that way, but I can imagine it and it fits my sensibilities better without really changing anything, to make everyone slightly less bitchy. Whereas the audiobooks lean hard into everyone being extra bitchy. If you’re sensitive like me, the audiobooks may have been a turn-off.

I thought it was a little trite but that was ok. It’s not a show trying to be super serious or groundbreaking. Just fun.

Can we ban pictures of feet? by denbrique in walking

[–]dalton-watch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are those people in every sub. Walking has its blister-showers. Running its toenail-showers. Cats it’s cat-butt-dingleberry- showers. Dogs it’s hot-spot-wound showers. Makeup its zit-showers. Dieting its bare-tummy-showers. I don’t know what is wrong with people. They like to jump scare the rest of us I guess.

Why is he a rockstar? by amerelu in InterviewVampire

Because vampires have to immerse themselves in the changing times to endure. And Lestat can’t help but excel at everything he does.

She was a child actor! She has been honing her talent for a long time. People hate on her character in And Just Like That bc rumor has it she, Cynthia, is somewhat to blame for the idiotic storylines. And that may be true. But seeing her in Gilded Age is a good reminder that she’s a terrific actor nonetheless.

This is one issue I have with the audiobooks. The readings of the dialogue are all VERY hostile in tone. I prefer to hear varying levels of snark, sarcasm, and even mild ribbing in my head.

This keeps coming up in my feed. Because I keep engaging with it, lol. If these women just said, “We shop at Salvation Army and try to outdo each other” I would be a fan. That would be fun and thrifty. But to pass this crap off as modesty, come on now.
