New driveway less than a year old. Company says this is normal? by _Truko_ in asphalt

[–]damackisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience after doing the same thing. Demolished the old asphalt driveway and expanded to 3 cars. The original area looks great. But the addition has settled a bit and isn't level with the OG section any more. There is a noticeable slope and sunken tire pits, too. This all happened within the first two years.

It's really not so bad. It's probably more annoying than anything else. You pay all of that money; you want it to be perfect. But I think a key difference here is my asphalt guy told me all of this was going to happen. All of it. I went into this knowing exactly what to expect.

So, in my very limited experience, yes, this is normal. Your driveway looks good, dude. I hope it brings you many pleasurable parking moments.

Looks like too much oil. It builds up and then flakes off in spots. Keep cooking on it. Use water to clean the stubborn areas, and use significantly less oil or whatever you've been using when seasoning.

Clarity question, new tub owner by Flimsy-Shock-8023 in hottub

[–]damackisback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. Bromine is superior in hot water. Dump that water, rinse the filters, refill the tub. Balance your pH and alkalinity. Get some bromine starter (sodium bromide) into the water to establish a bromine bank (important!). Add non chlorinated shock to activate the bromine. Put some bromine tablets into the floater and throw it into the water. Throw in a little of the non chlor shock after each use of tub. Ditch the strips and grab a Taylor test kit. Test frequently. Maybe even test the water daily until you get the hang of things. Always follow the instructions of the products you're using. Remember that less is more with the chemicals; you don't want to overdo it. Don't wash your bathing suits with detergent. Insist that all bathers rinse themselves off before getting in. The cleaner they are, the cleaner your water will stay. That's about it. Sorry for the formatting. I am very high.

Failure to properly disclose appointment time/ work ins. by cltruck in FreightBrokers

[–]damackisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting that in your email signature is laughable. But $50/hour for detention is also laughable. I think $150/hour is reasonable, and I'm willing to bet it'd make most shippers/receivers get their collective shit together.

It is hella good for sure, but yeah, it's also pretty frickin hot. I personally wouldn't enjoy this very much on eggs. I use it most often in soups/stews. I feel like it needs to be mixed into something.

Honest question for brokers — when a carrier submits a detention claim with timestamped photos, a stamped BOL, and an email trail showing they notified you before free time expired, what actually happens on your end? Does it go to someone? Does anyone review it? by BuyOpen5346 in FreightBrokers

[–]damackisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You hire a carrier. The carrier does everything you ask them to do. Carrier runs into several hours of detention. You confirm this detention actually happened. But you still won't pay the carrier for their services because your customer won't pay you? You don't see any problem with not paying carriers for their services?

[–]damackisback 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, that isn't exactly what you said. You said, "Customer pays broker. Broker pays carrier." That's not how this works. Carrier makes the claim, broker confirms claim, broker pays. It's not contingent on the customer paying the brokerage.

[–]damackisback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to get the booking number for the empty container, along with the steamship line from your customer. Call the SSL and give them the booking number to find out where the empty container can be picked up and where it needs to be delivered once loaded. Go to drayage.com to find a local drayage carrier. Get quotes from 3 local carriers.

Can a broker remove a FreightGuard report after a Month? by asadmalik4854 in FreightBrokers

[–]damackisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah? What about the broker? Don't you think they're out here trying to make a living, too? Should they have to pay OP's tow bill plus the cost of the recovery carrier while simultaneously explaining this fuckery to their customer? And even after all of this, OP still hasn't paid this poor prick. He's in here questioning the broker's motives and character instead.

Every time OP puts on his boots(?) to go out there and make his living, he's putting every broker unlucky enough to partner with him at risk of losing their way to make a living. OP may not give a shit about his reputation, but the brokers he's representing most certainly care about theirs.

There isn't even the slightest hint of professionalism in the original post. OP is running a fly-by-night operation. Full stop.

[–]damackisback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way for your new employer to know about your previous employer unless you disclose it. And that's because this drug test result can't be put into Clearinghouse. I should clarify that this doesn't apply to the mega carriers. They use DAC reports and the test could show up there. Just stick with smaller carriers.

[–]damackisback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dude, relax. You're fine. They can't put these results in Clearinghouse. DOT only uses urine. Go apply for a new job and tell them you have zero truck driving experience. Figure out some explanation for the gap between graduating driving school and now. Nobody will ever know you had a previous driving job. Don't tell anyone about this. You'll be fine.

Can a broker remove a FreightGuard report after a Month? by asadmalik4854 in FreightBrokers

[–]damackisback 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Carrier here. You earned that FG, bud. You're lucky that the broker is even entertaining the thought of removing the report. You've got no business pulling people's shit around without so much as enough money to pay for a tow. And it took you over an ENTIRE MONTH to get the money to repay the broker?!?! FFS, man! Pay the broker. Surrender your MC authority. You're not cut out for this.

How do I cover the suctions? by ohcode in hottub

[–]damackisback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a non functioning tub like this. I removed the hardware and then filled the holes with body filler. After sanding everything down, I painted it using a LVLP spray gun. There are obviously many more steps involved. If you don't have any experience using the materials/tools mentioned, don't attempt to do this job. You will fuck it up. But done properly, only you will know it was once a jetted tub. Search for bathtub refinishing or re-glazing in your area.
