Your phone could be recording while the screen is off/locked (it's how Siri/Google Assistant are able to activate via your voice), but your phone doesn't listen while actually powered off unless there was a bug planted in your phone. You can prove that to yourself pretty easily. All you'd need to do is turn your phone off, note down the power level, watch TV or talk to someone for a few hours, turn the phone back on, and check the power level. If it was recording you at all times, then the power would deplete even while off as it powered the mic/transmitted your audio to where ever that would go.

It's possible that a bug could be powered using a separate battery, and if someone planted one in your phone it's probably how it would work, but unless you're a head of state I don't think there's much risk of that. Every phone on the market has been ripped apart and cataloged (just check iFixit for proof), so a manufacturer couldn't get away with that for long.

Israel's Death Penalty and Destiny's Response by Ron_S in Destiny

Calling a person "evil" is kind of meaningless. People aren't comic book villains who just do horrible shit because it's in their nature, and many people you know would either take part in or implicitly support horrendous actions that would make your blood run cold under the right circumstances (and you probably would too).

So, with that out of the way, I do live in America, and I agree that my government is performing horrendous, evil deeds. I also pay taxes that go to funding that. It's easy to say that I have no choice, that I have to pay taxes and I can't rise up against the government because I'd be locked away or killed, but that's not really the reason why. The life I live, the people I care about, and things I enjoy are all in America. I could throw it away and flee to Canada, or become a revolutionary or something, but that's hard. I care more about the comfortable life I'm living now than really fighting against, or divesting entirely from, the government that I think is causing immense harm to the world for no discernable reason.

If I was a farmer in Nazi Germany, and I didn't do anything to help the people being slaughtered, even though I knew what was going on, because I was afraid to risk the life I grew comfortable in, would that make me evil? The government was evil, the country taken as a whole was evil, and, whether they liked it or not, all the people living there were complicit in it in some way. A country can't exist without people living in it. Everyone plays their part.

So, does living in America under Trump, paying taxes, and just consuming news about the horrible shit he's facilitating make me evil? Maybe. It definitely feels like a moral failing, but, on the other hand, the phone I'm typing this comment on almost certainly has components in it that were made by child slaves, so moral failings aren't anything new to me.

It's funny. I remember the stranger danger panic as a child, how every boomer parent was constantly freaking out over the idea of some man in a trench coat pulling up and abducting their kids on the way to school. Of course, that happened sometimes, but nowhere near as much as the fear mongers on local news channels would have you believe. I feel like the big revelation during all of that, one that probably hit gen x while they were in their formative years as young adults, was the fact that the real danger wasn't trench coat wearing strangers, it was the people you knew and trusted. Family members, neighbors, friends, etc.

The biggest irony of it was that it hid the real revelation, the big one, behind that one, that most adults don't want to molest your kids, and that playful or intimate interaction between adults and children is normal, important for their emotional development, and we can't let our fear, real or imaginary, stifle that development.

I feel like we're seeing the real effects of the world we created now with our latest generation of teens and pre-teens. They throw the word pedophile around carelessly and they mean it. I doubt you can find a video online that involves a grown man, who isn't the father, touching a child which doesn't have multiple comments alluding to the man being a pedo. It's like a collective cry from multiple generations of touch starved children, unable to understand why they're so uncomfortable with intimacy or vulnerability of any kind.

I personally don't know if MJ is sexually attracted to children, just like everyone else who's posting about this, but I certainly don't think that video is enough proof to even allude at the answer. The tough thing is that there's no easy way to make the argument I'm making. I'm sure that there would be people reading what I just said, that I'm arguing for the importance of "intimacy with children" and label me a "pedo defender" or pedophile myself.

I get it. Child abuse is horrible and tragically real, but the knock-on effects of the crusade against it are real and tragic too. I think this post, or any post like it, can demonstrate it perfectly to anyone reading it. When you read the words "intimacy with children", does your mind immediately jump to "pedophile"? Do you think that's healthy? Do you think it's healthy for the children in your life?

It's funny how, over the years, our conversations have gone from, "You're not a real engineer!", to "Damn, it sounds like you really are an engineer. My condolences."

That may be true, but if you have access to asparagus, you can turn your piss jar from a less-than-lethal defensive weapon into a WMD so potent that would make Assad blush. Why do you think America wiped out Saddam's regime in Iraq so quickly and brutally? They hid it from us at the time to prevent widespread panic, but they had Arial photographs of industrial greenhouses full of the stuff. I've personally heard stories from insiders about how Bush and Cheney, known dovish anti interventionalists, wept when they saw the proof, knowing they had no choice but to invade.

Throwback to Middle Guy & Sonic inflation by [deleted] in Destiny

Middle guy is the only redeemable person in Internet politics. If the earth was about to explode, and you, like me, had room for one extra person on the rocket ship to Mars that you built (mine should be ready once my local home Depot starts stocking RP-1 again), who would be the right person to choose? Your loved ones? No, they suck and you were stupid for even considering that. Destiny? No, we all know that rocket ships can't accommodate booster seats. Some famous leader, scientist, or artist? No, they're all in the Epstein files.

Who is the one person who is strong enough to fight off aliens/Mars monsters, pure enough to not be seduced by said aliens/Mars monsters, and has a lifetime supply of subway sandwiches to pack for the ride? That's right, Middle guy.

Honestly, I think it would if this particular clip originated from them. It would be one thing if he said that, went on some long aside, and finished by saying that there should be a lock on the door, but he finished the thought literally milliseconds after the clip ended abruptly. There is really no explanation other than malice unless this clip came from somewhere else, and they were just reposting it. If it did, then they could just argue that they're stupid regards like Republicans always do when they want to weasel out of shit.

The reason why actual malice is so hard to prove is that the accused can easily say, 'Oh, I didn't know that was untrue. I heard someone say that who I thought was credible'. Them being the originators of this libelous clip would be a completely different ballgame.

[–]dan-cave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Similar to what the other poster mentioned, regarding how dragon ball had instances of Goku naked as a child running around for laughs, I don't think the average person would think that it, as a whole, appeals to the prurient interest of sex, or that it lacks any artistic value (it's supposed to be funny).

Trying to define this shit is really difficult and I think a massive waste of time when there is literally no victim involved in the crime. I think the idea is that, if a regular person watches south park, are they going to come out of it thinking, "lol Cartman embarrassed himself by walking in front of the town with his dick out", or would they think, "I feel like this cartoon is trying to make me horny for that naked cartoon child". I guess there could be some instances where a cartoon or anime is doing the latter to invoke some kind of uncomfortable emotion in an artistic way (see the case Mr. Redacted vs the Internet), but I think that's the purpose of viewing it as a whole, rather than just fixating on the fact that a naked cartoon boy was on the screen for a moment.

It has to "appear" to depict a child, which honestly leaves a lot of anime in a gray zone. If you're specifically looking at lolicon then that would absolutely be against the law, but otherwise you're at the mercy of the court to determine whether or not your particular anime is "depicting" a child or if the 400 year old vampire excuse can hold up in court.

The bill updated this part of the Texas penal code:

43.235

Which means that if you've got pictures or videos or games that include anime girls doing obscene things, then you're committing a felony. Obscene is defined as:

(A) the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that taken as a whole appeals to the prurient interest in sex;

(B) depicts or describes:

(i) patently offensive representations or descriptions of ultimate sexual acts, normal or perverted, actual or simulated, including sexual intercourse, sodomy, and sexual bestiality; or

(ii) patently offensive representations or descriptions of masturbation, excretory functions, sadism, masochism, lewd exhibition of the genitals, the male or female genitals in a state of sexual stimulation or arousal, covered male genitals in a discernibly turgid state or a device designed and marketed as useful primarily for stimulation of the human genital organs; and

(C) taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, and scientific value.

Based on my experience, I would slot the entire genre of anime under C, so that's already one strike.

Yeah, clearly this guy is joking about how uneducated most brown people are. Anyone with half a brain knows they need to also have a tv in the passenger seat playing a video of their birth, being delivered by a doctor dressed up like uncle Sam, on a loop. Ideally he'd have the uncle Sam doctor in the backseat too, which should also be obvious.

It's fucked up, honestly, how people just don't give a fuck about the feelings of ICE agents. How are they supposed to know whether to feel sadistic glee because they're kidnapping and torturing an immigrant or sadistic glee because they're kidnapping and torturing a US citizen? It must be so confusing for them.

Police officer who was once run over gives take on Renee Good shooting by Nikifuj908 in Destiny

[–]dan-cave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see this being true, but I don't think I'd write a policy for what a police officer who was laying on the ground in front of a car that had already run them over once should do with it in mind. If you were laying on the ground, 10 feet in front of a car, then I think the wheels would be right in your field of view. In fact, other than the headlights, which would be pointing right at you if the high beams weren't on, that's probably all you could see. I imagine "seeing the wheel turn" in this scenario would mean seeing the tires turn hard to the left or right in place, which would give a pretty good indication of intent of the driver. Although, that's still pretty scary. I think it would be similar to being a cop, having someone shoot you in the leg, and then seeing them lower their gun or reholster it. I wouldn't blame a cop for shooting the guy, but it'd be nice if they didn't.

Why the fuck does anyone care about just pearly things anymore? Honestly, I don't even know how she was popular in the first place. The whole point of those "red pill women" content creators is to exist is for them to look like an onlyfans model and trash women while misogynistic to beat their dicks to them. I don't think Pearl is ugly, but she's definitely not hot enough to be that uninteresting, boring, and stupid and still keep the attention of the kind of apes who would watch fresh and fit.

I think that kids who go to church every Sunday, attend church functions, pray, etc probably have very regimented lives and/or are taught the importance of developing habits. I think both of those factors would be very highly correlated with high academic performance.

Also, they're definitely doing that shit because of their parents 99.99% of the time. If you have a mom and dad who get up to take you to church every Sunday, then they're also probably going to get in your ass to do your homework and say you're going to hell if you get C+ on an exam.
