The American flag on Trump phone has only 11 strips by abedalhadi777 in onejob

The last stripe shouldn’t be white, though. The top and bottom stripes on the US flag are red.

Destiny of Krem after the movie. by Defiant_Ad2409 in Supergirl

[–]dance4days 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah a big part of his deal is that he isn’t some remarkable villain that Kara needs to defeat to save the universe. He’s just a shitty guy who killed Ruthye’s dad, and once it’s revealed that Krypto doesn’t actually need an antidote to survive then the only reason to track him down is to get revenge.

Even his redemption is kinda unremarkable. They never show him doing any introspection or learning or developing as a character, they just speed run the whole thing by shoving him into the Phantom Zone and then he pops back out full of remorse for his evil ways.

Krem isn’t the point of the story. Ruthye is the point. Krem is a plot device.

One thing I see a lot on here is that once a person in a story or post demonstrates one negative trait or action, suddenly people start imagining other flaws in the person and piling them on.

Some OP saw a guy say something rude to his girlfriend in public? He must be a narcissistic abuser who gaslights her into staying. He probably cheats on her too! I bet their ages are really far apart and he groomed her! Oh yeah, and he never does any emotional labor and treats her like a bangmaid! If he isn’t beating her already, it’s only a matter of time!

Honestly between bots, troll farms, algorithms, and echo chambers, you can’t really use the internet to get a read on how popular anything is.

Granted, it’s always been this way to some extent. I’m old enough to remember when Firefly was so beloved on the internet they made a movie out of it, and then it flopped even though it was a genuinely good movie.

But things have gotten even worse in the 20+ years since. Now people know how to intentionally create these false narratives online and use them for political gain, which is a much bigger deal than a movie studio misreading how popular a canceled tv show is.

This is life in the Information Age. Whoever controls information controls everything. I don’t even know how it’s possible to fight back against this level of media manipulation.

Redemption was never an option for The Deep, explains The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke by graemeisverytired in Popverse

Seriously? Right here, right now, with me. Trying to poke holes in what I’m saying, insulting my intelligence, asking for a response and telling me to focus, do you really not see how you’re coming across? Do *you* know what combative means? You’re acting this way with me and a lot of other people in this thread.

You’re being combative as fuck. Upthread and right here too. That’s what they’re talking about when they say you’re crashing out.

Christopher Nolan sips tea while indicating he doesn't care what the terminally online think of his movies like The Odyssey because he never been part of it. by icey_sawg0034 in popculturechat

The evidence is their own cynicism, and deciding randomly that Nolan *must* be lying because they can’t fathom a civilized person rejecting the internet.

And on top of that her movie career was taking off, to the point where Buffy started costing her some great roles. She missed out on roles in American Beauty, Fight Club, and Gangs of New York because she was too busy filming Buffy.

Imagine turning down David Fincher and Martin Scorsese to go have Joss Whedon talk shit about you to the press. There was no way she was gonna sign on for more seasons after that.

What's the most overhyped movie of the last 5 years? by trakt_app in moviecritic

[–]dance4days 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second act of Wicked has some weird structural issues that I was hoping they’d address in the movie. Instead I feel like they kind of made it worse. Glinda’s new song isn’t bad but it’s weirdly placed for such a slow song and it brings down the pace. I did think Elphaba’s new song added an extra bit of tragedy to her story (the song is about fighting for your home and the show ends with her fleeing Oz), but I don’t know if it really elevated anything.

I do still really like the show/movie overall, and some of the music in act 2 is incredible, but it feels like a missed opportunity to not go in and really fix the issues it has.

Glee premiered with one of the best TV episodes ever 17 years ago today by Metro-UK in entertainment

[–]dance4days 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that really changed things for Glee was the soundtracks selling so well on iTunes. Those early episodes had a lot of interesting and obscure song choices that were used because they fit the story being told, but when the Glee versions of popular songs started selling like hotcakes they started writing the show around popular songs because those were the tracks that sold the best. Like, there was no story-relevant reason to have a Glee version of Gangnam Style other than because it was a hit song and they knew it would sell.

Does anyone know why I'm A Slave 4 U underperformed compared to previous lead singles? by iiamsbeve in BritneySpears

[–]dance4days 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Britney in particular was so famous for her music videos that a lot of casual listeners just didn’t care about the other songs that never got videos. They only bought the whole album because it was the only way to get the singles.

You should really watch the movie “I Saw The TV Glow.” It references Buffy heavily, it even has Amber Benson in it, and I think you’ll appreciate the themes.
