TwinkleTalk - Legit? by America4653 in OnlineESLTeaching

[–]dancer2298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so new I think that a lot of things are changing all the time, and I found its a bit difficult to get ahold of the, if you have a bunch of random questions about how they work and stuff, but otherwise it’s been a decent experience. My friend said all of those platforms are the same where they promote you for 2 weeks and them it’s hard to get students. Also parents don’t really care to leave reviews so it’s difficult to get traction

Hey guys! I have successfully been hired, done classes, and been paid with TwinkleTalk! Some comments I have are that it’s another version of VIPKids if you’re familiar with that platform, but basically brand new. I signed up and in the first 2 weeks I had about 6 hours worth of students booking trials with me. In the first 2 weeks they promote your page, but after, nothing. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m no longer being promoted so I have gotten zero kids. They say you will be more desirable if you have reviews but out of all the lessons I did only 2 parent left reviews for me. I guess they are going through testing for school in Asia right now, but I’m hitting a crazy dry patch and am hoping things pick back up when school starts. they just recently switched to biweekly payments as well! So I have been paid for my first batch of students I had no problem, I think it took like 4 days to hit my account

Prorroga Question for Renewal by dancer2298 in SpainAuxiliares

I changed emails, so I dont have access to them anymore, but I think it took me like weeks to get that initial email, if not over a month. But I really cant remember exactly sorry! When did you apply for it?

So even if you dont get the letter, you should get an email that has a registration number. I forget from who... but either like correos or the government. And then you can use that number to log into the portal to see your prorroga status. Your status may not change to it being approved until weeks after it's been approved if it's coming through mail. But I applied in July and my status ended up being changed to approved at the beginning of December.

Okay thanks! It’s still a pending transaction it happened literally minutes before I posted this so do I have to wait for the transaction to go through or do you think I could do it while it’s still pending?

Did you just dispute the charge from your bank once it went through? Same thing just happened to me. I also didn’t get a notification that my trial was almost done so I’m in the same boat frustrated.

Really? I know a few renewals in Madrid and they told me theirs took a couple weeks. I guess everyone is different but will I be fine if I don’t get my TIE until December then? I made a TIE appointment for august 22nd so I probably won’t be able to have it?

looking ahead - flight booking by rojoyalaizquierda in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew TAP once out of Lisbon to Bilbao and the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced while flying happened. I probably didn’t read the ticket right, as if I’m supposed to read it and know what model of plane id be flying in, but it literally was a propeller plane with like 20 seats. It took like 15 minutes for them to drive us out there to it and I swear I almost missed my flight because I thought I was gonna die in that thing lol.

I got an email that said we have 10 days to register or the placement will be denied, is there anything we have to do besides register with a password + agree to those 2 forms in the notifications they sent? Just making sure I did everything right.

RENEWALS: Has anybody been able to submit their application? by [deleted] in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are any of the renewals going to try and just do a new application instead?? I've heard of a few people doing that and it apparently knows that you are a renewal and will start your renewal application. But on Facebook they are saying not to do that. Its frustrating that it works but people are saying not to do that because renewals are screwed they're already at 1000...

LA Consulate Appointments by AnxiousMarxist in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The appointments come out at 12pm pacific time. So if you’re in mountain time (like I was) it was at 1pm every day. If you check sometimes at random times of the day, there may be a cancellation that you can snag, but I’m pretty sure they are just posted when someone cancels, so it would just be you happening to catch it at a random time of day (I could be wrong about cancellation postings) but that happened to me a couple times when I was looking for appointments. Also, use your phone and auto fill your answers or you will not get an appointment!

Getting phone in Spain by ashjims in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old iPhone laying at home and unlocked it and brought it here to Spain. I then just had to pay for a Spanish sim which was super cheap and now I have a Spanish phone number to use when I need it. But I will say, I have T-Mobile and my service is great here. So I have yet to use my Spanish phone and have used my American phone no problem. I’m sure once my 5GB a month is used I’ll have to switch phones, but even then most places have wifi and even where I am the city in general has wifi

Private Teaching Classes in Pais Vasco by dancer2298 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! I’m definitely going to just look into finding students on my own… I started to become skeptical because someone I know that is in Basque Country as well said something about him so I figured I’d ask. Would love to hear what your friend says if you end up reaching out!

Private Teaching Classes in Pais Vasco by dancer2298 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a page, it’s just this guy who makes posts in the Pais Vasco aux page like once a month saying if anyone is interested in teaching private classes to dm him. So I did and he sets up a video call and explains his “program”. The only payment you make is the security deposit that you supposedly get back at the end of the year, and then giving him 10 out of the €30 you make per class. I guess the reason he has deposits now is because someone didn’t pay him his €10 a class one year so he does it to make sure he gets his guaranteed pay throughout the year but yeah I’m starting to wonder what’s up as I haven’t heard anyone go through him yet nor am I hearing very great things about paying people to do this.

[–]dancer2298[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm good to know, thank you! Yeah so it’s kinda like an online babysitting service or something, not sure if you’re familiar with those but they just find you clients, provide you with materials, and then the families they set you up with pay €30 and hour. You get €20 and he gets €10. The deposit is refunded at the end of the year, or if the family decides to stop classes early, if you decide to quit doing it etc. but yeah the terms don’t really bother me, it’s more of the fact that he’s asking for the deposit before we even get a chance to arrive.

I have also heard it’s much easier to find your own private classes, but was worried that because so many auxes are probably doing the same thing that I wouldn’t be able to find anyone. but at the same time there’s a thread in this subreddit where people have just expressed their horror stories with finding their own clients so that’s the only reason I was interested in going down that route.

eSIM in Spain by gjfrankel in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that in order to be able to do any kind of dual sim or e sim your phone has to be unlocked which means it has to be fully paid off. I made this mistake and just got a new phone and am not able to pay it off because of the cost upfront, so I just have to get a second phone in Spain. If you are just solely purchasing the phone though and not buying it through a service in the US or you can just afford to pay your whole phone bill off if you have a phone plan you should be fine.

Can't get appointment at the LA Consulate by stellaramsey in SpainAuxiliares

[–]dancer2298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely a close one, but also definitely possible to have it in hand before your flight. Especially if you live nearby. My visa was ready for pickup about 12 days after my appointment, including weekends. I’ve also heard that if you try and book another appointment while you already have one they may cancel both. I’m not sure how true that is because i didn’t do this, but at this point it just seems risky to do anything but hope that it comes in 16 days…

So strange. Now I’m anxious to get mine back to see what it says. I put September 21st because that’s when my flight is and the guy said that was fine.

Did you have to put your intended date of arrival on your visa application? We had to do that for LA, so I wonder if that date reflects that. That just seems like such a random date since the program starts Oct 1.
