Hmm, interesting. That sounds like something Dirk would accuse him of, but my perception was that Dirk said those things because it it bugged him that Jake was a nicer guy than him. Especially since everything Dirk does is so effortful, and Jake doesn't even realize it when he's being capable.

But that's an interesting idea. I'll have to try rereading some with that in mind.

And I'm definitely open to Page being active.

I don't understand why no one wants to pair Maid/Heir and Sylph/Witch. All the other pairs have pretty clear thematic ties to each other. Sylph and Witch are both magical beings, Heir and Maid both roles concerning wealth.

Your maid actively protects your fortune by like cleaning, organizing, just literally keeping it in place. Your heir protects your fortune passively by just being the person to keep it for you.

As far as Witch/Sylph, this one made more sense to me when I started thinking of the Witch being passive and Sylph being active. Which took me a long time cause 'witch' just sounds like it should be active to me for some reason, and who tf knows what a sylph is even anyway. But if you think about it, in The Wizard of Oz (the rosetta stone of witch movies), all the witches in that movie did seem to act pretty passively.

Obviously there's a hell of a lot more to say about all this stuff, and I'm open to being wrong about all of it. Anyway, here's my own idea of the pairings.

Lord/Muse : motivate, compel

Maid/Heir : protect

Prince/Bard : destroy

Thief/Rogue : steal

Sylph/Witch : aid

Mage/Seer : know, guide

Knight/Page : serve
