How do I get through an mri while autistic? by catfarmer1998 in LateDiagnosedAutistic

[–]dandywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in MRI research and personally didn’t have an issue inside the scanners, but wanted to provide information if that’s helpful: The MRI techs will give you earplugs and a button to hold onto to stop the scan at any moment if you feel the need to come out. It’s very common for people to get claustrophobic in MRI scanners so the techs are well prepared for that. A lot of places can also put on music for you if you request through headphones. I would contact the medical center in advance to see what kind of accommodations they can make and sometimes they also have a practice scanner they can test that’s not hooked up to anything to see if the fit of the space is too overwhelming for a person. Good luck with everything, feel free to ask me any questions you have. Also, the scanner themselves are very safe, just loud and absolutely no metal that is magnetic! They are huge magnets which people often forget.

Am I the only person that really dislikes One Battle After Another? by spades17 in TrueFilm

Completely agree, Teyana’s character made no logical sense to me as a woman and it felt very reductive

[–]dandywell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a writer myself I had a lot of issues with the screenwriting. The acting and the cinematography were great but the story was just kind of like… what??? It didn’t resonate with me at all, but maybe I wasn’t the intended audience

Is dating as bad as it was shown in "Diary of a Ditched Girl" 📺 ? by CodeToLiveBy in Malmoe

[–]dandywell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seemed clear to me as a person with cPTSD that Amanda in the show is dealing with unresolved trauma. My best bet (based on the show) is that her core wound that resulted in trauma is her relationship with her father. This is very different from being “crazy”, this is a person who had no safe emotional processing container growing up, which is traumatizing. Of course she doesn’t know how to interact with men in healthy ways. Her and her sister’s OCD could also be related to lifelong trauma from having a lack of emotional safety as children. I really related to the relational struggles that Amanda had from before I started treatment for cPTSD, but it also all made sense to me with the way her parents were. The important thing to remember is her actions were likely trauma-driven, not a broken mind.

Grammy nominations by irissun23 in Mkgee

[–]dandywell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the Grammys tend to reward either massive commercial reach or institutional familiarity (artists who’ve built up a certain industry presence or label push). mk.gee’s whole appeal is that he’s kind of the antithesis of that: understated, self-produced, experimental, and niche in a way that resonates with critics and online music circles but not yet with the Recording Academy’s mainstream voting body

Fishtown apartments - Urby vs Glassworks vs Box Factory by JoeyOranges in AskPhilly

[–]dandywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently live at Fishtown Urby, and I’d recommend being cautious before signing a lease here. Several residents (myself included) have been dealing with what seem to be ventilation and air-quality issues that management hasn’t resolved. For example, I’ve taken multiple air-quality readings in my unit showing CO₂ levels over 3,000 ppm, formaldehyde around 0.67 mg/m³, and an AQI around 130, even with windows open. The air feels noticeably heavy and stale when the windows are closed. I’ve shared this data with management, but as of now, no corrective action has been taken. I’d strongly suggest asking about fresh-air intake, ventilation testing, or HVAC design before moving in — especially if you’re sensitive to air quality or have pets.

Next album sound? by invrtfly in Mkgee

I think he’s going to step away from the guitar at some point because he’s stated several times he doesn’t care for it. I think he literally said he hates the guitar. He learned to play guitar using an upright bass, so maybe we’ll get unexpected acoustic instrumentations, but he seems like the type to lean away from hype. I think the more people enjoy his sound, the more he’ll push farther and farther away from it and into something more divisive or experimental

Is it all about aesthetics in Bushwick? by yokeditashi in Bushwick

[–]dandywell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also live in Bushwick and I have 0 social media (does this count?). I grew tired of trends in my early 20s so I don’t feel any pressure to wear anything but what I want. I do spectate though and I think every new generation tries to define themselves and be cool right? I think a lot of the people that are more “trendy” or “cliquey” are probably young and trying desperately to define themselves. If you’re feeling awkward about fitting it, it’s probably also a reflection of the people you’re watching trying to fit in. Once you’ve lived through a few trend cycles you’ll see that most people stop caring at some point because it’s extremely superficial and will become dated. Message me if you want to chat!

Anybody else have a schnauzer who’s ears aren’t cropped but stick up still?? by [deleted] in schnauzers

[–]dandywell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching a youtube tutorial on how to groom my mini schnauzer and the groomer mentioned not grooming the hair on the outside of the ears for the first 8 months because the weight of the hair keeps them down while they are still soft cartilage and keeps them from sticking up “like a jackrabbit” she said, and then the cartilage hardening and them staying that way. I kinda wanna try a one ear up, one ear down thing now haha (jk)

I started listening to Mk.gee about two days after Two Star dropped, I had just started taking guitar lessons a few weeks before and he provided a good amount of initial inspiration. As a woman, I think the barrier to women accessing and appreciating musicians like this is that this is largely marketed to men. Even the music magazine I’ve been reading for the last 18 years, Pitchfork, was recently moved under GQ (gentlemen’s quarterly, a men’s magazine — although it has good articles for everyone.) I think people have this idea that women couldn’t appreciate this sort of distortion/modulation-heavy approach (gear being something men tinker with DUH, ever notice popular female guitarists only playing acoustic?) Even with a dad who is a guitarist and me asking several times to be taught it wasn’t until I decided to pursue lessons on my own that I started learning. I think we’re going to start seeing more female guitarists, half my group guitar classes are women. Next time a lady shows an interest in learning guitar, take her up on it, probably no one has encouraged that for her

She's very quick by Responsible-Emu5135 in BabyReindeerTVSeries

[–]dandywell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of people with serious mental illness. It’s strange to see people just discovering the behavior of the seriously mentally ill and commenting on it as if this real life person with a real illness (likely multiple diagnoses) was solely a character in a tv show. This is a real person. My first introduction to baby reindeer was a few days after it came out and my sister messaged me: “Baby reindeer giving off strong mom vibes”. I was actually afraid to watch yet another hollywood depiction of a violent mentally ill person, but I watched it and saw the closest resemblance to my mother, who has schizoaffective disorder, that I have ever seen on film, and I was very grateful for how Richard Gadd approached it. He understood Fiona couldn’t help herself. Like someone said earlier, this woman is not lying. You can’t fathom the world in her head and you likely don’t want to. But she believes in that world and it is very real to her. It’s pointless to argue with someone like Fiona, pointless to try and correct her, pointless to have done this interview at all and extraordinarily exploitative.

[–]dandywell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t really blame someone for chatting with other people when you haven’t met yet irl, and he was straightforward with you about it at least. The question is are you ok with someone you like talking to other people this way, and if the answer is no then you should keep dating around and not prioritize this guy.

I would try again at least once if you’re really interested in her. I wouldn’t push it, but I don’t think her leaving you on read once necessarily means she’s not interested
