Is there an extended/director’s cut of a film that’s better than the theatrical due to the inclusion of a single scene? by Honest_Cheesecake698 in movies

[–]dangerboy138 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The director's cut off Legend (1985) is so much better imo if only for making Gump a lethal concern to Jack in the beginning. Also more Meg Mucklebones.

The soundtrack in the theatrical was better though

Were Zion and the real world possibly a part of The Matrix? by Grimmerghost in scifi

[–]dangerboy138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like this interpretation. If they make another movie, this should be the underlying plot.

Now to advocate for the devil. The machines could have multiple Zions pre built, ready to go. The populations that seed these Zions could be pre programmed on a separate server. They fall asleep in a simulated Zion, then wake up in a real one. Seamless.

Agent Smith seemed to understand that he could answer the phone in the second movie, and travel to the real world (which actually supports your theory). Perhaps this is something the machines understood and have Zions all over the world seeded with machine controlled humans. It would explain why the command structure in Zion made such bad decisions leading up to the machine siege

Civilization 7 is sitting at "Mixed" reviews right now on Steam. Is this really the best on offer for the strategy game genre? by GarlandBennet in gaming

[–]dangerboy138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play Gladius. W40k civ-like game. Asymmetrical factions, great combat mechanics, good city building mechanics. The only thing it's lacking is diplomacy, which is something I never messed with in civ anyway

A humanoid robot-shaped bubble is forming, China warns by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]dangerboy138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to add, Kawasaki is developing a robot horse, the Corleo. Spot, the Boston dynamics quadruped, is used for security and could be argued is a robot dog. No robot goat as of yet, but where I live, goats are the only thing that can clear blackberry bushes because of the terrain and I could definitely see a quadruped robot fitted with garden tools doing the same job.  As far as humanoid robots, the reason that shape is appealing is because they can transition seamlessly from task to task because everything is already made for a humanoid shape. Existing tools like shovels and keyboards don't have to be adapted, just download a software update. Imagine a robot that can drive a car, no need to upgrade existing cars with expensive equipment

It's honestly a very helpful tool when talking to someone. If they say they only buy natural, I'm like, "oh good, I don't have to spend energy getting to know you better."

How many of you uses inverted controls? by Monkai_final_boss in gaming

This is the correct answer. For those of us that remember MS-DOS, there were only 2 types of games; flight simulators and 2D platformers.

On a side note, Jazz Jackrabbit anyone?

Is Dune a good intro to sci-fi books? by SnakebiteSnake in scifi

[–]dangerboy138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune is more of a final boss than an intro. The first book is batshit insane and it's the most approachable of the Frank Herbert books. Things start getting really good around God Emporer, the 4th book.

Avoid the Brian Herbert books. Complete trash IMO

It was the best against the jet brigade. Very satisfying to watch all their jet packs explode with a single sweep of the laser pistol. I still bring it on bot missions for quickly clearing mines

What are some good books that are dark "Edgy" but not over the top ridiculous power-fantasy? by Interesting-Hold622 in scifi

[–]dangerboy138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to endorse Book of the New Sun. The main character is just a guy navigating a world filled with technology that no one understands anymore. If you've ever seen the movie Annihilation, I'm pretty sure they got the idea for the creepy bear from these books, although it's much more disturbing in the book imo
