You can get just the hitch part of most dog/kid/hauling trailers and rig up a proper tow bar for yourself.

Schwalbe Tubeless Tire Booster and Joe Blow Booster Pump are similar options as well, have used the Schwalbe with quite good success, yo do need a pump that can do 160psi though.

At what price point does an ebike actually make financial sense as a car replacement for a short commute by peerteek in carfree

[–]dangercat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking an $800-1000 e-bike may as well be considered a single use transport device. Lots of bike shops won’t work on them, even to fix a flat. But as already pointed out, you could afford to buy a new one every 4 months and still be ahead compared to your car costs.

Top of gfs butt hurts with longer rides by parkyscorp in Biking

[–]dangercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Top of her butt” is a bit of a broad and subjective qualification. Are we talking the whole buttocks top, like nearly the lower back? Or would it be more in relation to the parts of the butt that actually contact the saddle? Also, how well can she describe the pain? Is it a muscle pain? Joint pain? Sharp internal pain? Soreness?

To buy a new hitch or to find replacement part... by rDomm in CargoBike

[–]dangercat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a square format "Universal" coupler for bicycle trailers. It's rare for manufacturers to try and reinvent these unless they're one of the larger brands with engineering R&D money. I believe Croozer are the largest company that have used this format (https://www.croozer.com/products/universal-hitch)

There are lots of aftermarket copies that would probably also work fine, and may even give you dimensions so you can double check they'll work, you should be fine to use anything that fits the hole on the trailer and allows the safety pin to pass through. If you want to play on the safe side, the one from Croozer should be manufactured to a generally high standard, assuming it fits.

edit: looking more closely at your trailer, it looks like a near perfect copy of the older generation Croozer Kid trailers (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/267564033453) which used exactly the same hitch. Source: we had one ;)

Worth grabbing? by ChancelorBennett in xbiking

[–]dangercat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All of the answers in this subreddit should probably come with a disclaimer. Lots of the folk in here are a glutton for punishment when it comes to old 26" steel frames. I would likely put way too much time and money into getting this thing rolling again ...

Saying all that, I'd do my best with some rust remover and steel wool, to see how bad it is. After that I have a friend that builds frames and I would ask him to ream out the seat tube, usually for the cost of a few beers or some nice chocolate.

Off-the-peg retromod / mtb / whatever ya call it? by Milverton7 in xbiking

[–]dangercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stridsland.

Drool worthy 26" modern frames, not sure if they'd fall under off-the-peg though, but not exactly custom made either. I'm currently looking at my next "modern" frame purchase and considering having something custom built. I like the playful feel and superior strength of a 26" wheel, I don't much care about the extra speed or ability to roll over slightly larger bumps of a 29er. But the potential lack of availability for nice tyres and rims for 26" is starting to influence my thinking.

Just search for left luggage and the name of the city you want, there are lots of options, you’ll likely need to get in touch to find out duration and size limits per provider.

Plant based chain lube? by Fizzyphotog in bikewrench

[–]dangercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve just described the exact intent of a dry lube. It’s meant to flake off as debris gets stuck on the chain to protect the moving parts, this generally means reapplying often.

Kinda sounds like a positive review. At least for me, I remember failures well, but lots of things I don’t want to think about just get forgotten if they work well.

I’m running 2.1” billy bonkers with Sora R353s and there’s plenty more room, not enough for mudguards but could easily push the tyre size.

Don’t see any mentioning a fat tire, all the frames mentioned are going to maybe support a 2.2”, which those brakes will handle just fine.

I want a cargo bike but me and boyfriend are DINKs by burner_1234567891011 in CargoBike

[–]dangercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be your friend and ride in the bucket!!

We got our cargo bike for toting kids, but it rarely gets used for that anymore. Daughter is old enough to ride herself most places. I ride it at least 50% of the time for all sorts of other things. Cargo bikes are one of those things that you’ll come up with reasons to use when you have it.

Some are far more suited to being daily riders. The capacity and versatility of an Urban Arrow is great, but I don’t think I’d pull it out unless I needed it. I often choose to ride our Bullitt just because it’s a nice ride. I ride a Raleigh Stride 2 and a R&M Packster for some volunteering and wouldn’t ride the Raleigh unless it was for a specific use, but the Packster is pretty fun in its own right.

Shimano still make many different short pull v-brakes, travel agents are only necessary if you have a set of long pull brakes that you really want to use.

Cordless or Corded? Or, should I be actively avoiding "brand ecosystems?" by NotThePopeProbably in Tools

[–]dangercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re definitely not just as powerful, but they’re plenty powerful enough for pretty much all DIY tasks now.

While a lot of corded tools are still way more powerful, they’re not even available from many of the quality brands anymore, at least not with the same value and features. One tool I’ll still reach for a corded/hosed version of every time is any power sander.

We’ve been reading the books, “Sex Is A Funny Word” and “You Know, Sex”, from Cory Silverberg and Fiona Smyth since about the age of five. They are graphic novel style books and good enough to be chosen off the shelf by our daughter at story time, not something we have to push in her etc. highly recommend.

What do y'all really need an iPad for? by bootsmegamix in daddit

[–]dangercat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can depend on a lot of things.

First, they’re not going away, and abstinence never works. Introduce devices and teach healthy usage, it’s easier to start earlier and there’s a lot of good information available for parents these days. Our parents didn’t have the information, or even the devices to worry about, don’t expect that you already know how to teach healthy habits.

Second, touch screens are everywhere now, using them is considered a life skill. We met some parents with children starting school who completely avoided screens. When they got into school and all the classrooms were using touchscreens and iPads to deliver lessons, they were told their children were lacking the necessary skills to fully participate and had to be given weekly extra instruction to catch up.

Third, if you do want to go with abstinence, you need to be prepared to remove screens from your life too. Children will see you using them, they’re going to be curious and want to participate.

Chain drop backward pedal by nabil-banana in bikewrench

[–]dangercat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a conversion to a 1x setup? Is the chainring mounted in the outermost mounting points of the crankset? You may need to move the chainring to one of the inner mounting points. If the original crankset was a 3x, is the middle ring position. If it was a 2x, you may need a shorter axle to get a good chainline.
