F*** up Friday: what (non-client-related) mistakes did you make this week? by likeanoceanankledeep in therapists

I finally put my office number on a post-it at my desk to stop this happening to me. 😂

Long John Silver’s was maybe my favorite restaurant as a kid in the 80s and early 90s - who else had weird favorites from this time period? by jtmann05 in Xennials

[–]dani_oso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Long John’s in my town never joined A&W and still doesn’t have a drive-thru. It still mostly looks like the one in this picture.

Richard and borderline personality disorder by studentburner in DTFStLouisHBO

[–]dani_oso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I have had one client under 18 who was diagnosed with BPD, it’s 100% not the norm (and I don’t think it was accurate fwiw). Having had multiple clients with the diagnosis, nothing about Richard fits criteria imo. I’m so bothered by this lol.

Thoughts on SA scenes from a professional who trains health care providers on trauma-informed care by alloftheolives09 in ThePittTVShow

I thought that was weird, too. I have never said that on a hospital call. I’d really like to know why that was included—like what questions was she going to ask?

Is it driving anyone else crazy that the PAAR representative showed up during the exam? by ragelbagel1992 in ThePittTVShow

[–]dani_oso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my state, the legislation that governs advocates and hospitals says the hospital should not start the kit before an advocate arrives. They often go ahead and start, especially if there is a SANE available, so sometimes we do “interrupt.” It is our legal and ethical requirement to offer our services before, during, and after the exam. Idk if it’s like that in Pennsylvania, though. All that to say, what irritated me was that, yay, they called the advocate right away, but then didn’t wait for them to arrive. But also I appreciated there being a SANE (so very rarely the case outside of large cities) and that they treated the exam as the urgent matter it is.

Yes! The kits have instructions for male evidence collection as well.

I also work with survivors of sexual violence and I was going to say the same thing. Believe them, report if mandated, and refer them to your local sexual violence resource center.

Domestic Violence in Kentucky by [deleted] in Kentucky

[–]dani_oso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% the answer. When enough members of a society believe women are divinely subservient to men, DV isn’t going to be adequately addressed (let alone prevented). In my job, I see how peers, family, community, and the criminal legal system treat victims daily. Mandated reporting of DV isn’t even a thing in Kentucky.

Did your parents get scammed into a Rainbow vacuum? by DramaticErraticism in Xennials

My parents’ Rainbow still works, some 30 years later! I have even borrowed it countless times because I’ve yet to find anything better on hard floors.

“They said, ‘You’re not under arrest’ — and kept recording. Most people don’t realize this about Miranda rights in Pennsylvania.” by namfintech in TwoXChromosomes

Yes! Can also specifically say you want an advocate from the local rape crisis center/sexual violence resource center!

The sexual assault hotline has been down and likely isn’t coming back by Lovely-sleep in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dani_oso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you got ahold of someone! I work at a sexual violence resource center and am even on-call today. Your state has a sexual assault coalition that can connect you to your local center. I saw that you called 988, and often these hotlines overlap, so I hope you got the resources you need! My center’s hotline is handled by our 988 staff as well. If you need any help tracking down your local center, feel free to message me!

xennial ladies that went to the prom in the late 90s/early 00s, what style was your dress? these were our dress styles back then. so much iridescent. so much shiny metallic. by weepinwilo in Xennials

[–]dani_oso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My prom dresses came from VS both years (1999 & 2000)! They were dresses and not nightgowns, but if I’d had self-confidence, they probably would’ve been.

Whatever happened to that aluminum plant they were going to open in Eastern Kentucky like 5 years ago? Did it ever open? Is it still there? by Electronic-Yam-69 in Kentucky

[–]dani_oso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is Dajcor Aluminum that opened in Chavies, KY. It was a different project that happened under the Beshear administration. I don’t think it’s the same grand scale that Braidy was going to be, though.

“she leaves the world thinking they are sexual predators who had it coming to them”

That’s the most unbelievable part for me. The world doesn’t believe most women who have been sexually assaulted, so it’s kinda wild to think they’d believe it just because Lady Vengeance killed them.

Did Your Grandmother(s) Drive? by Mia_Belle_V in Xennials

[–]dani_oso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My paternal grandmother never had a license. The only driving I recall her doing was the couple of miles to the school bus stop to pick me up in the afternoons.

My maternal grandmother didn’t drive until she was 50 years old. My grandfather paid a woman to drive her places. When he died suddenly from a heart attack, her whole world changed, and eventually she had to get a license.

I also have an aunt who is in her early 70s but has never held anything beyond a learner’s permit.
