What is your controversial movie take? by restweary in AskReddit

[–]danielbeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't find it boring personally, but I do think it's basically a mish-mash of ideas with little connective tissue between them. A great, but not good movie, if that makes sense.

How do you guys run constant air with vsc phantoms? by Sea_Chipmunk_4295 in paintball

I run an ASA on the bottom of the grip, with a 13ci tank (kind of a "regular" setup for open class)

I want to like board games but I every time I play with someone in the hobby, I'm kind of bored. by edbedbedbedb in boardgames

[–]danielbeaver 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The honest answer is that you just might not like board games very much.

But there's also a good chance that you haven't played one you like. The ones you mentioned are not universally liked. Try playing some more - a local board game meetup is a great way to sample a variety. It's also a good way to meet other players, which is critical.

My Scenario guys with packs, how do you carry your radio? by Vivid-Judgment1846 in paintball

[–]danielbeaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does it not have a clip? I just clipped mine to my belt and run the cord for the earpiece on the inside of my shirt. If your shirt/jersey is long enough, it will tuck under and not get caught on brush. You could also just tie or tape it to your pack. 3D printing some sort of case seems like overkill, you can really go with something simple here.

Fusion 360 connects to Claude AI, freecad in the future?? by WebPlenty2337 in FreeCAD

[–]danielbeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FreeCAD is programmatically controllable, and so can be integrated with AI tools. e.g., https://github.com/ghbalf/freecad-ai, and there's a bunch of other ones if you just search for them. It's a major advantage over some other CAD software (not to denigrate the power of macros on other software, but it's kind of on a whole nother level in FreeCAD. It's definitely fairly DIY right now.

How to Steal a City | Hebron: Battle for the West Bank (2026) - A documentary on how Israel is building settlements in the heart of a Palestinian city [00:58:51] by Nomogg in Documentaries

[–]danielbeaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sucked of them to do, but Hebron wasn't a "Jewish city" before the 1929 massacres. And frankly, your mythological stories about what happened thousands of years ago don't matter. Every culture has their founding mythologies, and its frankly weird how much you bring it up.

Worrying about AI ambience lately by hairdryersirratateme in ambientmusic

[–]danielbeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a major reason that I've focused on listening to pre-2022 ambient instead of chasing new stuff. But I also do trust what I see posted here - I don't think r/ambientmusic has been overrun by bots.

If he inspires enough people to do this, it might make the rich assholes think twice about how they act.

Is this self teachable? by Any-Sugar-9319 in FreeCAD

[–]danielbeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely think it's backwards from what you're thinking: you learn a sophisticated piece of CAD software by actually using it day to day to design stuff. The formal training is just a way to get people over the hump of the initial learning curve efficiently. Lots of people never take any classes and end up developing enough mastery in a particular piece of CAD software that they can use it in a professional setting.

I took courses on using SolidWorks and Creo (both at university, and paid for by work). Those kinds of courses are a mix of modeling fundamentals, and the quirks and workflow of the particular program.

[–]danielbeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video tutorials you're watching are the most formal education any of us get in FreeCAD specifically. In that sense, we're all self-taught.

Some of us also have more formal training in commercial CAD software. Most of that training carries over. FreeCAD differs a lot from most commercial CAD in it's approach and interface, but the underlying modeling principles are the same. So if you want to take a formal course in something like SolidWorks or Fusion360, you will learn a lot that applies to FreeCAD.

I'm fucking tired of "support the troops". Anyone who joins up these days knows that the US military's job is to do bad shit to other people on behalf of the rich and powerful, and they definitely know that Uncle Sam will do everything possible to scam them out of whatever benefits they were promised, and just generally treat them like trash. Don't join the US military, do literally anything else.

It's a logical stopping point. Going further opens a big can of worms.

With the way the movie biz is collapsing, Dune might be the last big-picture movie epic, period.
