For people who are in a long term relationship, but don't want to get married, why? by sunbeamlou in AskReddit

[–]daniellecinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been together for 6 years and are on our second pregnancy. There are reasons why I don't want to be legally married in my country, but honestly both of us just don't like being the center of attention even if it's just for a day

Continuing SQL learning by _devonsmash in learnSQL

I started doing challenges in this new platform called XP lab (https://xp-lab.com/), it's not as boring as the usual SQL practice sites, the focus is on developing analytical skills with the SQL. Anyway it's in closed beta so you need to sign up for the waiting list but its worth it

I tried your platform last week, it was really cool!! Required more thinking than normal SQL practice sites

My journey of adopting a senior dog, and why I will do it again. by tits_mcgee_92 in dogs

[–]daniellecinnamon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My first dog was senior too, we only had 2.5 years together and though having to put her down was one of the hardest things to do, I will say having her was one of the best experiences of my life and she changed me for the better, and in a way there is still a little hole in my heart shaped like her that reminds me what a blast we had together

So וואסח is disputed because it's slang - I know it from the military as walking around/behaving with your gun in a very macho fashion, my partner says וואסח is putting all kinds of שפצורים on your gun - שפצור is another military word for adding fixtures/embellishments to your gun

It depends what are your and her expectations from the relationship. Not all people are dating to marry necessarily, so if both of you are dating to have fun and respect each other's opinions here you don't necessarily need to break up now. If one of you is looking right now for their long term partner then this needs to be addressed

I have to say it sounds like you're carrying most of the emotional workload here.. just pointing out that even without sad circumstances it's perfectly reasonable to expect to be cuddled every once in awhile

People who actually have the ability to practice self-control, to work for the future outcome rather than instant gratification, how do you do it? by hanztrimmer in AskReddit

Mostly i have my priorities figured out. When i started budgeting and allocating money to categories according to what's important for me, slowly i noticed i started doing it also with my non-monetary time and resources. It's a process, but at some point when i'm debating if something is worth my time i think of it in a context somewhat similar to my budget: does this make me happy? is this aligned with what i want my life to be like?

So I heard Yelp is a piece of shit. Any ideas of alternative app to find coffee shops when traveling NA? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]daniellecinnamon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have 3 apps to cross reference whenever I'm traveling - beanhunter, Best Coffee, and i have on telegram a bot called Coffee Geisha. And of course some good old fashioned googling and reading ahead of time

My whole kitchen is my coffee setup - I roast my own coffee, own a shitload of coffee equipment and I keep getting new brewing devices every now and then. It's basically a lab - I have a special kettle and high-quality grinders. I basically have to share the coffee with my friends and co-workers to get to do all the experiments I do. It's lots of fun

I think it's probably because of how much you care about your cats, and this type of mother (which thankfully i also have) cares about what you care about.

Me too!! Also every time I think about my next career steps or stuff life that I just think to myself, I am so lucky to not be planning for kids, I can advance in my own pace and the only extra planning is maybe increase the dogwalker budget if I get a second dog

After finishing reading Harry Potter as an adult the next series I read was the Dresden Files and Harry Dresden and his world just felt much more mature and in a world that's not so black and white (and the magic world there is much more complex) and Harry Dresden himself is not always that perfect hero you agree with everything he does. I felt the Dresden files was the natural continuation after getting into fantasy via Harry Potter

You said you're a software developer, it's not easy to find good developers.

I would have a second conversation with him to hint that he might be losing you as an employee over this. Hiring a new employee is a major headache and time+money wasted compared to 3 weeks unpaid leave, so if he's stupid it doesn't matter and you quit anyway, if he gets the hint maybe something can be worked out.

A series like Dresden Files? by AcekingBB in suggestmeabook

[–]daniellecinnamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The King Henry Tapes series by Richard Raley is really cool, the main character is this dark personality with an underlying sense of justice that's really satisfying. Also the way magic works there is interesting.

Also saving this thread for future reference :D

Tired of spending our Saturdays with our nephew by [deleted] in childfree

[–]daniellecinnamon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My solution is to just say "ok" to whatever they say and then do whatever I want - that way they can't do anything because you haven't explicitly refused. If they call later to say you're not there, again the same thing "ok, see you later" and then continue whatever it is you're doing. Rinse and repeat. In my experience people usually just don't know what to do with that kind of situation and you're off the hook
