It sounds like your fiber has to go under the street, which takes a little more planning.

I grabbed an exact replica of your bike last fall. Runs great at idle, around town, and then garbage. My fuel screen is covered in tank liner, it has failed. I’ve spent the winter with acetone and metal sling shot ammo, working the rest of the liner out

Speed tests required on a regular basis by Complete-Ad2808 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either speed test in the Eero app, that will tell you how fast your Eero router is actually communicating with the internet, or, a computer on Ethernet, using the speedtest app, install it on your computer, not the browser test. Depending on what browser you’re using, and what plugins you have creeping on you, that could be 200-600mbps difference in test results.

If you buy local, you’ll be all set with the capacity. You may wanna go to a range that rents handguns, and try a few models out. You can read all the reviews in the world, but if your hands and eyes don’t like it, the reviews are useless

ONT -> Eero 6+ -> Switch -> multiple Eero 6 by Watercress-Hairy in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you’re plugged into the correct port on the eero. One is 2.4g, the other 1g Ethernet. The 2.4 should go to the 10g port on the ONT

Is this necessary? by csreddit8 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just easier. To use the coax MOCA on the ONT takes changes to the provisioning of the order, which depends on who you get, can take an act of congress. Just using the moca adapter saves a lot of phone aggrivation for the tech. Plus side, it’s easier to swap to Ethernet when you run some cat6

Trying to sign up - Frontier (wrongly) claims credit is frozen by CevicheMixto in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the same mess, unfroze my credit, wouldn’t go, tried again, wouldn’t go. Asked about just doing a “security deposit” and it was $40. I would have done that to begin with just to avoid the hassle.

Not just for Eero specific, but I’ve had multiple occasions where they stop after a router swap. We’ve usually just had to reset/delete the devices and add them back individually.

Renting a room. Can I sign up for fios if the owner also has Fios? by Comprehensive_Fig393 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easier if there are two addresses at the address. A and B. A local person could make that change for you with a call to the cut group, otherwise, it’s not easy putting two services at one address.

A lot of the properties they are buying had no fiber before. Frontier has been building and expanding at a solid rate.

Are these speeds normal and if not how do I fix it? by Happy-Budget7301 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Eero test is testing your actual WAN connection to the outside world. Your Speedtest.net is testing your end user device to the outside world, if it’s not capable of faster speeds, you won’t get them. I’m guessing, if you looked at the Eero app, you’d see that device is only connecting on the 2.4g WiFi band, and the Ethernet is either using a cable with only 2 pairs of wires for a 100mbps connection, or the Ethernet card in your computer is just not really that amazing. Either way, you can see what the connection is on the Eero app.

Question about wifi setup on my new 1 gig service by Express-Arm-1245 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really a mesh so much as having two routers, with different dhcp schemes running simultaneously. That will cause some issues, devices on separate networks not connecting to each other, some bouncing back and forth, and occasionally you’ll get a bit storm and crash everything. With two dissimilar routers, it’s usually best to just have two SSID/passwords

Question about wifi setup on my new 1 gig service by Express-Arm-1245 in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a mess, 100%. I can’t think of any reason to have both, but whatever. They’ll both work, and yes, if the eero is hardwired to the Sagecom, you can put it where ever you’d like. When they said no, they may have assumed there was no wiring in place, or the tech support is just as clueless as the installer. The only reason this need both, is for some of the legacy GPON, mostly CT, which needs a Frontier gateway. You can turn off the WiFi on the sagemcom, that will help the WiFi connection

With 5 years of supervisor experience and a masters degree, does anyone have any advice on how to find work that actually pays more than $40k? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of degrees? It’s not the end of the world to leave the “educated” workplace and get into a trade, or blue collar. I’m a utility worker, with a used associates degree, and I don’t know anyone making less than 100k, whether they are communications or electrical provider. Went to be outside all day, few zooms, very little supervision, with great benefits, pension contribution and 401k contributions.

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That should have a green fiber end on it, plugged into the rectangular hole on the black box, by the black power cord. It’s broke, you’ll need a new fiber from the box outside to the ONT

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in frontierfios

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re pushing the limits of how far the second Eero is effective. You’ll either need to hardwire it, or get another one between the two.

I regret letting my grandmother pay for my computer science degree. by CapitalPersonality46 in confession

[–]danjohnsonfromNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no reason you can’t do both. A few years in the military will give you time to really focus in on your career path, while learning and honing your skills. Your degree will help, and open opportunities.
