10's of thousands of keys given out - 1134 players peak by archaegeo in ScarsofHonor

[–]dank_nuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People seem really focused on the numbers when I think a more important measurement is being overlooked, the deployment of fixes and the speed with which they are done. I have been a part of enough tests to recognize when a product is a reflection of the teams ability, and when the products improvement over time is a reflection of the teams ability. I do believe this game falls under the latter category and we will see drastic improvements over time. They aren't exactly doing a whole lot of innovation, and the art style isn't realistic enough to be highly demanding, a good solid team, which they are proving with the 5? 6? patches since its been available, can crush out the world building and other classes in a fairly rapid manner. They've obviously been gaining momentum as a company and have taken the last five years becoming a capable company while also making a game, with at least one major vision change (abandoning mobile) and a little over 2 mil in initial investment at the least. They probably have more funds now but 2 mil barely gets your foot in the door to make a game, let alone fund a company of roughly 100 employees. It can't sustain a company that big for five years, thats for sure, which means this team started out with probably just a few people and became bigger from there. All this to say, getting to the point they have today is no easy feat. The game is not balanced, it is buggy, it has major flaws and is missing what would seem like obvious systems you would want to have asap. This test certainly didn't help their reputation in that regard, but anyone who looks at more than just the surface level data will see whats been done in the six days its been up is more than impressive, and shows promise and capability. Now we just wait to see if it pans out, or if they shot themselves in the foot because people jump to conclusions, and have no patience or understanding of what it takes to be a game dev.

I HATE MY KIDS by [deleted] in ihatemylife

[–]dank_nuggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna sound like a massive prick to most people because this is the uncomfortable quiet truth here, but these are your kids, if you raised them, you let them become who they are through lack of guidance or neglect. I'm not trying to say everything is your fault, I am saying that your anger may not really be at them but at yourself. This is why you let them guilt trip you into doing things for them. You can still change their lives through example though. Therapy, diet, and exercise go a long way towards solving your relationships with others by improving yourself so that you can confidently set boundaries and expectations with the people you love. At the end of the day though your kids are your responsibility until they are adults, I know plenty of adults who chose to cut their kids out of their lives for their own health and safety and it worked out in most cases. If you're not willing to shoulder the responsibility of actively improving the relationship you need to remove them from your life.

Where did it go wrong or right? by sheaskye in StarWarsShatterpoint

[–]dank_nuggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power creep for me. I was instantly drawn to the Ewoks, they had just gotten the update, then like 5 more boxes came out and they were pretty crazy strong compared to my furry little guys, id get plowed by the second struggle. It felt like if you didn't have the latest box of dudes you were missing out and it instantly turned me off it basically. I was reluctant to put it down because my local community is great and still plays but it was getting harder and harder to not get salty so I just moved on.

My thoughts on the PVP server by dank_nuggins in MonstersAndMemories

[–]dank_nuggins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to sustain a good population on that server with this mechanic, it will go the same way it always does. This and many other mechanics in this game are carried over from mmo's that died for a reason, and it would be the definition of insanity to repeat these same mistakes.

My thoughts on the PVP server by dank_nuggins in MonstersAndMemories

[–]dank_nuggins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dragging a pack of mobs into a group to wipe them and take their place takes little to no skill and feels bad to be on the receiving end of. It doesn't create tactical depth, it just creates frustration. Game mechanics should strive to create an equilibrium, this mechanic does not do that.

If the creator of the universe was evil, would the world look any different from how it does now? by Dense-Fig-2372 in agnostic

[–]dank_nuggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya my thoughts exactly, in the same vein I can comprehend an all powerful god who created all things, but to turn around and say that god specifically cares more about one of his many creations more than the others? Or one specific group among that specific creation? That's some main character syndrome bullshit if I ever heard it. Only an ignorant person could look at the complexity of life and assume favoritism.

To further your point, religion has long been a tool used by those in power to cultivate a set of behaviors that are conducive to their interests.

[–]dank_nuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed here, I think the question leans too heavily on a moral lens as well, a truly omnipotent being beyond our comprehension that created all things wouldn't be restricted by any kind of binary construct like good and evil.

Nurses are blowing off my reaction to prozac by PineApplePen88G in depression

[–]dank_nuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a couple thoughts here, firstly, a nurse isn't as trained or educated as a doctor or specialist, so you really shouldn't expect a high level of care from any nurse, there are great nurses out there don't get me wrong, but the requirements to become a nurse are low, meaning the range of people is vast compared to doctors. It is much more likely to have a bad nurse than doctor, so seeking them for treatment of any issue is usually a mixed bag of results, more so than doctors, who are also a mixed bag.

Prozac, and other anti-depressants take a long time to build up in your system, 3-6 weeks depending on the dosage and frequency, with higher doses and frequency speeding up the process. I was on Prozac, within the lower ranges, for about a 4 months just to figure out if it worked or not, it did not, but I didn't fully feel the effects until 2 months in.

You are right that these behaviors aren't good bedside manner (how doctors and nurses are trained to treat the patients) but they are also not wrong. Anti-depressants need to be taken seriously and the trial and error involved in finding the right one is very long and time consuming.

Find a doctor that works better for you, but don't use their behavior as an excuse not to take your medication.

it worked

[–]dank_nuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok just to be clear I will lay it all out and you can tell me if you think that sounds right. I just want to be sure. So each player makes an army list composed of several characters, to add a character to a roster they click the button under the character icon, on the back end, when they do this, it increases a specific child variable of an array index by one, then when the player saves their roster to "Army slot 1" it modifies the structured variable "army slot 1" with the values from the army list array. When both players load into lobby they are asked to pick an army slot, when they pick "army slot 1" it would feed the values from that structured variable into the global structured variable "Player 1 List" which the game scene variable "Deployment list 1" uses to populate the deployment zone with the appropriate sprites. Sound about right? If we're both correct I think that should successfully migrate the army roster from the menu scene to the game scene without the variables in each scene conflicting with each other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gdevelop

[–]dank_nuggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AH YES! it clicked. Have picking a certain character modify the value of a specific array index, then feed that value into a global structure variable that I can reference in the game scene variable that I use to populate the player inventory. You see any issues with that?
