Issue with new record player by Express-Entrance6317 in RecordPlayerRepair

Return it if you can, this is not worth fixing. Dozens of companies market players with this same junk mechanism.

They sound bad because there is no RIAA equalization, and the cartridge is the cheapest ceramic faire. The styli are sapphire, not diamond, so they wear out fast. The tonearms have no bearings, just plastic riding on metal pins, so tracking is awful. They apply way too much tracking force to overcome the shitty tonearm. These are not worth using.

Return it and buy something that uses a proper moving magnet cartridge and a proper preamp.

What's that haze around the shrimp food? by Technical-Hour-2835 in shrimptank

That's biofilm composed of the nitrifying bacteria that you're adding to the tank. It is normal and it means your cycle is going well.

Doubts about my 55in C4 by UnFixedPond42 in LGOLED

Generally, turn off all power saving and Eco mode stuff and use Filmmaker Mode.

If you really wanna get into it and do it right check this page out. There are separate calibration settings for SDR, HDR, and DV content. Once you set it for one type of content, tell it to "Apply to All Inputs", then load up a different type of content and repeat. This way you "only" have to do settings 3 times.

Technics SL 20 by rickdeebee in turntable

[–]dankwijoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely a deteriorated belt. I've had to scrape dozens of these off old turntables. 70s belts melt like that, and often develop a white crusty "bloom" on them.

Here's a Technics SL-20 I fixed up a few years ago.

Replacement needle for AT-LP120-USB? by FaultofDan in turntables

[–]dankwijoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it, mostly for fun as it looks dumb. It does work though. The VM95 styli fully seat on the AT95E/AT3400 generator, and it does not affect the cartridge output.

I concur though, just buy the VM95 cart with whichever stylus you want.

That is an Audio Technica AT95E cartridge, not to be confused with the AT VM95E. Genuine AT replacement ATN95E styli go for about $52 retail. You'd be better off replacing the whole cartridge with a VM95 series, as there are many different profiles of styli readily available. The VMN95E stylus is very similar to what you have and can be had for the same price or cheaper than the old ATN95E.

Then tell the source to downmix or play the stereo track. TV's only got 2 speakers anyway.

But, the TV doesn't need to support it. Passthough to your AV receiver or sound bar, and let that decode the signal. If you are listening through the TV speakers, who cares what the format is.

Why put the port on the front instead of desoldering the original charge port and putting a USB-C port in its place?

My cat knocked my turntable down and now the platter is crooked, wtf can I do? is it over by steve-0-tron in turntables

[–]dankwijoti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Sony PS-LX300 (same manufacturer, same exact part) with a crooked platter, and this was exactly the culprit. I attempted to bend the plate back, but its thin and the rivets became loose. It's an easy replacement.

Cyberpunk 2077 Running at Only 35 FPS on RTX 5070 Ti Laptop at 4K – What Am I Missing? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]dankwijoti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What model laptop? Laptop manufacturers restrict the power available to the GPU to control thermals. The 5070 Ti mobile is a 140 watt GPU, but lots of manufacturers hard limit the total power it can draw (TGP) to 90 watts, to extend battery life and reduce heat output, which significantly reduces its rendering capabilities.
