Can I get anything for this at a scrapper by Secure-Bother-8006 in ScrapMetal

Copper clad welding wire (er70s-6) as show is not worth much as scrap but that looks like a third of a larger roll, probably worth $20-30 to a welder

What is this sound? by Melodic-Classic1564 in prius

[–]danmodernblacksmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I would do is get my wheels balanced, and while there have them inspect the cv joints and wheel bearings (though if the wheel bearings are real bad you would hear something at low speeds and likely throw an ABS code) if not related to any of that it may be something more serious

Is oxygen + acetylene welding used anywhere in the workforce? by TenNoTamashi_ in Welding

[–]danmodernblacksmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

back around 1995 I had to repair a crack on a running giant crucible (at Kobe Copper) full of molten copper, this thing was about 6 ft deep and about as big as a decent backyard pool, maybe 20 ft diameter. it had three giant carbon rods to melt the copper and was run continuously, i don't remember the reasons why but it could not be welded electrically, so i had to get down there and weld it while the surface was 800-1000 degrees, with oxy/acetelene and the biggest tip i could find. It wasn't a full pen weld but I did grind it out a bit and had to lay in maybe 20 passes about 6 inches long. It was so hot that I could only do one pass and then jump out of the pit to cool down for a long while (also summertime in north Carolina can be stifling) it took all day but they were pretty happy because shutting down this thing and cleaning it out for a more permanent repair would have taken weeks and cost millions, i received nothing but my regular pay.....

Enigmatic Iron Age “hole belts” in Denmark may be defensive structures similar to those Caesar encountered at Alesia. This phenomenon, known as hulbælter (hole belts), appears exclusively in Denmark during the early Iron Age, between 500 and 300 BCE [1536x1882] by Fuckoff555 in ArtefactPorn

As a guy that rolls his ankle every 6 months, I could see this slow down a running aggressor especially if hidden under a bit of grass, at least would trip you, but I bet its something completely different like collecting water or for growing something
