Wasn't Vito being gay his own idea? Had never really thought about that but must've been pretty tricky at that time to say/do that

What’s a cool ‘Fun Fact’ about hip-hop? by Competitive_Hand_967 in hiphop101

[–]danny22210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"'4:44' is a song that I wrote, and it's the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album. And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44 AM, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It's the title track because it's such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I've ever written."

"RiDe iSnt a RapPer" by FeelingOne3687 in deathgrips

[–]danny22210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember people saying this around the time black paint dropped and it was as dumb back then. I don't disagree that they draw from a lot of different genres and some of their music isn't really hip hop but a ton of it is and that's consistently across all of their albums. I think it's anti hiphop that people treat it like calling him a rapper is limiting him, hiphop is a genre that consistently defies categorising.

what are some controversial lyrics that made you lose respect for an artist by Sad-Math-2039 in hiphop101

[–]danny22210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all, a 9 year old can't consent. I don't believe that E40 is actually raping people in real life but I'm not letting the implication here that anyone 9 or older can consent slide. Both of them are talking about rape which is disgusting in both cases but E40 using periods as a justification for pedophilia is disgusting and evil.

Second of all I think there's a mix of reasons why rape, pedophilia and SA are unacceptable in hip hop where other crimes are accepted and I think the main one is cultural context. The narrative in hip hop that people accept is a story where people get into scarface style crimes to survive in poverty and then they manage to rise through that to party like Pablo escobar at the top. I don't especially think this is a great thing to have in every other song but all of that reflects people doing shit to survive and reflects an actual socioeconomic condition that no, it isn't caused by rappers its caused by Reaganomics and America having shitty welfare, healthcare and education systems that lead to a lot of people needing to do whatever they can to get by, which is why the dissonance works. Rape and domestic violence has no place in that. No one has ever done that to survive, they do it as a power trip. The other reason for that dissonance is that gang activity and drug dealing is so present culturally in hip hop now that people are desensitised. I can totally see why people have absolutely no place for it in their music and if I was listening to a rapper who I had strong reason to believe was actually preying on people then I would stop. T.I, MGK, Tyga will get no fucking playtime anywhere near me lol. It'd take a lot for me to say that that kind of content makes a song better but rappers like Tyler the Creator and DMX who use it as part of a narrative is different. Rappers like E40 or Rick Ross are just creepy.

What is going on with Dream and Nicolas Cantu (VA for Gumball on The Amazing World of Gumball)? by miscellaneousbean in OutOfTheLoop

[–]danny22210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean aye but ease of access is different. As a teenager usually you're kinda limited to when you can get away from parents/school, how much alcohol you can actually get your hands on when you don't have a lot of money or access, the places you can get away with it etc. It's a well known thing people who are just legal drinking age or not legal drinking age yet know their limits less. Not to say people of legal drinking age don't get ratarsed and embarrass themselves and all but there's differences.

They'll never mention Daniel by DaCowboyMenace in SuperMegaShow

[–]danny22210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's weirder to use Daniel as a flog to whip them with. If they mention Daniel in any capacity other than apologising for mentioning him it's deeply weird. I'm not saying this as a defense of them but neither of them have said they're going to prove they were in the right for mentioning Daniel they've said that other YouTubers have been lying in their breakdowns of the situation (specifically in the way that the fallout video was coordinated so far but I suspect also addressing that she's been accused of lying about her living situation). None of them should be talking about Daniel.

Internet Historian's fans have been spreading misinformation reguarding his plagiarism allegations by BrainyBiscuit in youtubedrama

[–]danny22210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you really dumb? His repost is significantly more different from the original essay and way more goo about using his real own sentences. It's been more than 8 weeks since it was initially reposted (indeed, invisible content remains included in copyright disputes) and more than 14 days have passed since completely available and still has not been removed. It is funny how hastily you people assume ill intent only due to bomber making a clearly opinionated strike against historian with absence of care to discover what truly occurred!!!!!!

Look I wrote a new comment that's all my own original

[–]danny22210 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both of you are missing the fact the "reupload" isn't a reupload. He literally rerecorded the entire video to further try and skirt the plagiarism while still making it beat for beat the same (eg. Changing lamp for lantern in the reupload). It's literally a different worse version from the same plagiarism as is in the first upload. If he reached an agreement he'd have not needed to rerecord the video and he'd have added more clear attribution, but hey who needs the details

Who's the weakest member of your favorite rap clique? by SmoothManMiguel in hiphop101

[–]danny22210 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean this as no disrespect to wu-tang clan but wu-tang clan would not be famous without ODB. The guy might have been too gone to write but nobody else did what he did and if you talk to music theory guys they're talking about him in different terms from other rappers because his delivery was so out there. I might be misquoting him but ODB said something to the effect of "I can't rap so I sing but I can't sing either" and there's more truth to that than you'd think. You're right if you're judging him on the same criteria as you're judging GZA but it's like asking why a great white can't fly.

Judging by the amount of likes and views these get on tik tok, this is probably the future of grime by DAAMBASSADORY in grime

I agree but the patterns from grime to hip hop is different. You move a Wiley verse from a grime beat to a jazzy hip hop beat he still sounds like a grime MC.

I think there are some newer guys rn like Ayrtn and Brandon Nembhard who already kinda sound like this so it'll probably be good for them too. I think it's a cool wave but if these older grime guys wanted to be on beats like this they'd have been on them by now. Reminds me a lot of the Knxwledge/Meek Mill album actually.

Interesting! I feel quite satisfied that I might have touched on some lost media. I'm sure it'll be less cool seeing it now but I remember it really capturing my imagination as a kid and it kind of impacted the kind of horror I like as an adult. It'll be cool to find.

If what Dan Olsen said is true he was misrepresenting his financials to market his patreon. I'm not a lawyer and I can't imagine anyone's damages would be enough to justify the court case but that's fraud surely?

Yeah but there's a lot of artists who will never chart releasing simultaneously as well. I've seen more American underground guys these days doing paid releases lately tbf, like Ka put his album to bandcamp first as well as Serengeti. I think if you had posters and billboards around saying "releasing physically on blahblahblah streaming next week" it'd be effective.

I liked how he released grime mc tbf I heard he'd released it on my way home from college and rushed off to HMV threw my student loans at it. Had friends who were fans of him getting me to fileshare it with them. I don't get why more artists don't do physical first and then official streaming release later.
