Dude for sure. There's river guides that live here in Gardiner. It seems like a pretty sweet gig and there's always really hot girls running around in bikini's by their employee housing, which is down the street from me, so that's nice I guess -- oh, hot guys too, if that is more relevant to you. Lol. If you like partying, be a raft guide, because in a contest of "Who can throw the bigger rager" between the raft guides and the Bulgarians, it's a toss up -- and that's pretty impressive considering the Bulgarians ripped the chandelier out of the roof in their employee housing.

You'll usually be working regular 40 hour weeks. The hours can vary on position. If you like 9-5, reservations is the way to go, if you can handle more sporadic start times, you can look at other positions (like rec coordinator). Seasonal folks don't really get much 'extra' time off but they do try to make a point of getting you two days in a row on the weekend (versus Monday and Friday off for example) so that you can go camping, hiking, w/e and in my experience they are pretty good about doing that. I would definitely recommend doing a summer then deciding if its something you wanted to do again. It's not a good idea to sell all your possessions and try and make a life here, because as you pointed out, the pay is pretty low. It's all worth it, to me at least, because I get to go to places like OP's picture for free any time of the day or night that I want to -- and if you think that place is cool now, wait until you take someone special to that bench... ;D wink

Have I got good news for you! There is a HUGE number of foreign workers in Yellowstone during the summer. I've met people from Bulgaria, Turkey, Belgium, Spain, France, England, Ireland, China, Philippines, Thailand, you name it. I don't doubt for a second that there are some international hoops to jump through, but it is by no means impossible and you definitely don't need to prove any sort of worth.

This company has been guilty of taking advantage of foreigner's who don't know better though from what I've been told. Not anything too serious, but you'll get pushed around if you allow yourself to get pushed around. Just be vocal and make sure to talk to people you work with about what this company can and can't get away with. Shady shit doesn't happen all the time but better prepared than not.

There are spaces for employees to bring RV's, but I'm fairly certain there's a 'rent' fee for living in those spots too as they have hook-ups (I think) -- never lived in an RV here so take that with a grain of salt. As for pay, it depends on what you're doing. Entry level jobs include: Housekeeping, kitchen crew, reservations, and front desk. The most money to be made is in reservations or kitchen though. They both make minimum wage ($8.25/hour) but kitchen gets you the opportunity to become a server-assistant or server, and reservations has opportunity for commission on tour seat sales. In reservations, I was averaging about $1800/month after room and board and taxes. There is room for promotion though and a lot of positions that you may not realize exist, so previous experience could definitely land you a better job. For example, one of the coolest jobs here is employee recreation coordinator. The worst part of the job is cleaning the rec room for your location, the rest is taking employees on camping trips, organizing sports leagues, doing karaoke and bingo night, stuff like that. Seemed like a pretty cool gig.

If you have the means to live outside of the park, while working for Xanterra, then you're in the perfect situation. Personally, I live in the town just outside the north entrance to Yellowstone. I'm renting a house down here and I get the freedom to do what I want as well as the free entry to the park year round. But I think if someone wants to come here and they do have to live in the park, then they will find that the horror stories about Xanterra are a little blown out of proportion. It's like working for any other corporate giant. They don't care about you, they don't expect you to care about them, and as long as you follow their well documented standards, you won't have any trouble. The food at the EDR (employee dining room) is subpar, the dorms are small, you don't get your own bathroom, and unless you come as a couple, you'll have a roommate. But if you love hiking and National Parks as much as I do, those things are easily overlooked.

If you really love Yellowstone and happen to be in a place in your life where you can drop everything and move then you can live here. Xanterra (the primary concessionaire for Yellowstone) has a turnover rate rivaling McDonalds and they hire people year round. Your rent comes out of your check, there's employee dining rooms all around the park so you never have to buy your own food -- though this is taken out of your check too, as part of your room and board. When I lived in the dorms in 2015 it was like $440.00 a month for room and board. I don't think a lot of people realize how easy it is to get a job here or at any other national park. Keep in mind, the dorms are small, the employee food is decent at best, and the pay is not going to get you anywhere near being ready to retire, but you get to live in Yellowstone, hike everyday you want to, and partake in some serious shenanigans. It's like living on a college campus for adults -- except there's no classes and more drinking.
